The latest Dragon Ball video game, Spike’s Dragon Ball Raging Blast, is set for a multiplatform PS3 and Xbox 360 release on November 12th in Japan.

Observers have been quick to note some significant graphical differences between the two versions…

The comparison PNGs:

PS3:

Xbox 360:

It looks as if the blast will not be the only thing raging about this.

The game itself is available for pre-order now.

There are three more strands of hair on his front left bang in the XBOX 360 version?

I see no difference, and even if I did, I don't care. DB sucks. In fact, it's one of the most sucky franchises out there. I don't get how anyone can like it.

no look the background has a few more rocks to blow up... and the 360 version has 100+ more hours of charging times before attacks...

Are you fucking blind or something and DB does not "suck". I bet you're one of those sailormoon fanboys who crossdress as one.

Dragonball is, from what little experience I have with the franchise, fairly generic shonen anime. I will admit that it's fairly generic because everyone else started ripping it off, however.

That said, every shonen anime that isn't Yakitate!! Japan fails.

Yakitate!! Japan is amazing, but that in itself is a parody oriented series, ripping off of animes that the directors liked, most of which are shonen. Fist of the North Star (Yes, it IS Shonen) is one of them and there are very few people who could ever give enough good reason to even slightly dislike Fist of the North.

Indeed Fist of the North Star is far superior to dragonball or any other bullshit shonen ( e.g Bleach, Naruto, One Piece) in both action and story.

Eh, I haven't seen Fist of the North Star, so Yakitate!! Japan still stands as my favorite, partially because it's a parody. Series really went downhill after the Pierrot arc, though. I think I'm mostly pissed about the most badass character, Kawachi, getting demoted to Butt Monkey.

Exactly, rock are destroyable, here's another cap on the PS3 for the xbots:

PS3 is supposed to have higher resolution according to the source of the original article at Hatimaki.

Yea, the game does have destructible environments just not too many.

And the destroyed rocks re-appear for cutscenes.

No, all the rocks are in place in the PS3 version if you don't destroy them. Same as the 360's rock count. Plus PS3 version has better anti aliasing.

Besides the missing rock in the background, I can't see any significant difference. Certainly not anything that would keep a person from buying it if they wanted to.

PS3 has less details because it can't compute as many polygons as Xbox...

anti-aliasing, a couple extra rocks here and there. 360 one is better on a level so minuscule that it'd only serve as fodder for console fags to war with.

Ah, right! Someone really needs to explain to me what anti-aliasing means. I've seen that term so often, yet I still don't know what it means.

simply put, it's a technology used to make the edges of a picture smoother.

    20:25 25/10/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

It has to do with signal processing. When sampling points in a analog signal, you need enough points to derive the original frequency. The theorem of Shannon states that you need at least twice the maximum frequency you wish to detect. Otherwise you get residual frequences that do not exist in the original signal. That effect is called aliasing.

What this has to do with games is that using anti-aliasing you can smooth out the pixels, so instead of rising blocks you get a line.

thats a victory pose, hence the end of the battle. so the rock that are missing on the ps3 version must have been destroyed in the battle.

yes, the whole enviroment of the maps is destroyable

They both seem to have crap Anti-Aliasing jaggies everywhere.

The xBox360 version seems to have much better LOD (Level of Detail - basically using different sized textures based on the distance from the viewer)and anisotropic filtering (averaging the LOD frequency to fill in the gaps between the data). Look at the bushes and trees to the right behind the character.

Blurring is caused by a smoothing filter, a form of anti-aliasing.

    Comment by Anonymous
    02:56 26/10/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

Yeah the worth type of anti-anliasing that is possible... blurring. Real antialiasing uses super-sampling on the edges of the polygons, but I've never seen that in any console game.

    (PC ftw :P)
