Microsoft: “We Expect the PS3 to Outsell Us”

xbox360-arima-senne-by-kashiwamochi-yomogi.jpg

Microsoft has admitted the PS3 looks set to outsell the Xbox 360 even in its US stronghold, but defiantly maintains that the Xbox’s annual sales will still exceed those of the PS3, and that the Xbox 360 will outsell the PS3 “for this entire generation.”

Microsoft’s top flack Aaron Greenberg holds forth yet again on why Sony is doomed:

“I can tell you to that when NPD releases September sales… we fully expect PlayStation 3 will come in as the console with the most units sold for the month.

This is frankly not a real surprise to us or the analysts that follow this industry, as it is typical to see a short term bump following the introduction of new hardware and pricing into the marketplace.

What I can tell you is we remain confident that Xbox 360 will not only outsell PS3 for the full calendar year, but for this entire generation.

It is similar to a game of baseball, it is not about just winning one inning, but instead being able to win the game by consistently delivering across all nine innings.”

dun forget X-Box 360 can play self-burned game, it might be the reason why X-Box 360 can keep on selling out while PS3 sale drop & stop, cuz people don't want to spend too much money on Real Blue Ray Disc Game for PS3...
I'm waiting for Mega Man X9, if it release for PS3 only then I'll buy PS3, otherwise X-Box 360 or Wii would be cheaper choices...

reason why PS3 did not sell is because it's not piratable.

What? That they expected ps3 to have a sales jump once the price was lowered?

Who cares about a sales jump then. What will matter is what the sustained performance of the ps3 is over multiple months/years. I'm sure M$ isn't planning to sit back and do nothing at all if ps3 continues to outsell them over an extended period (more than just a few months)

What's sad is that They're not mentioning the fact that the 360 had the same price drop. Theoretically, the 360 should've done much better than it did last month.

BTW, that guy should think twice about taking on a Japanese company in a game of Baseball Metaphors.

Well xbox is releasing a new developer console, so that will definitely bump xbox sales!

    Comment by Anonymous
    04:54 19/10/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

... and all the game companies will buy FOUR of these for each developer.

One's in use by the dev.
One's in the mail TO Microsoft.
    One's being repaired AT Microsoft.
One's in the mail FROM Microsoft.

    It's the Circle of Life!

While this will create a "short term bump" in sales, it won't significantly boost the totals.

so basically xbox annual sales. you divide by 4 and that would be the actual sales if it wasn't for rrod. so sad how there's still ppl defending a system with such a high rate of fail.

As someone who actually owns both consoles, I have to agree here that even though my xbox did fail, twice even, that I still enjoyed playing it. It's not like it ruined the entire platform. My ps3 never failed, of course, but its online service isn't all it's cracked up to be. You have to balance the pro's and con's, but both are good to have, imo. I don't get the whole fanboy war, why not just get both? You shouldn't be allowed to talk about it until you do anyway.

I do have both and its not like you can compare both online services. Its like complaining about something that you get for free while you're paying for monthly service to maintain your online stuff. I honestly don't see why I should pay for XBox Live if I want to play game online that I already had to buy.

I'm tired of people talking trash about the PlayStation Network.
Here's a few reasons why the criticisms are unfair.

    1. It's free to use.

    2. Microsoft's been at it longer.

    3. In case you missed that first one, it's free to use.

This IS a site based on Japan, and therefore is full of PS3 fanboys. Both systems are good in their own way; so what if the Xbox 360 only has three cores? There are some games which are for Xbox 360 only, such as Fable 2, and games that are for PS3 only, and the exclusives tend to be in the same genre, so take your pick between what you enjoy more.

And about the RRoD, if you got an Xbox 360 after August 2008, you won't be facing those problems, since they made a third chip switch to Jasper; my Xbox 360 uses 12V A1 (same as a regular lamp) energy.

It was an Elite model with the Jasper chip
guess what happened.....it RROD'd on me! Five times actually. It froze in the first 2 weeks. It got the RROd on the 3rd and 4th week. It then got another a month later, and another 1 week after. Yeah, it's fixed.

I like both systems. Seeing people debate so heavily about one console over the other is stupid. I admit, the 360's failure rate is a travesty, but outside of that, both systems have a strong library of games. And isn't that what is most important?

Instead of ignorantly proud of sales figures, how about fix the damn hardware/RRoD problem first instead of screw more money from new buyers that are not aware of the damn 360 has a failure rate of over 54%?

Even though I love my 360 I honestly have to agree, since Microshaft are money whores and are going to do whatever they can to make more, even if it means leaving a defect in so they can charge for repairs, or even get another sale.

And even IF they removed the RROD or even improved the 360, it doesn't mean a new thing won't come along to effect the new batch. Just like the E74 error with the jasper models.

Microshaft is "FAR" too worried about sales and console install base than they are about actually fixing a problem that effects millions...

Its sad how they don't actually care about their consumers.

Microsoft were worried to rush the 360's launch so as to not get steamrolled by the PS3's mindless hype machine (if you don't agree with this description of pre-E3' 06 expectatives towards the system, then you either are a Sony fanboy or you just don't care all that much about new systems coverage, if you are of the latter category then I somewhat envy you) and get a small advantage for the hard times to come if they wanted their system to actually move form the PlayStation brand's shadow.

And, after many court cases, they realized they'd actually lose money if they didn't "care about their consumers" (for once, at least), then the RRoD-specific three year warranty extension was announced.

Pure business logic, really. And a big fucking blunder that's already been solved, so it would be wise, not to mention mature, to just shut up about it since it's no longer relevant plzkthx.

Oh of course, once Sony rolls out the non disk-based emulator for the PS3s without backwards compatibility, it's okay for them to charge us for games we already have, right?

And don't say "But you don't know!" If you honestly believe Sony won't jump at the chance you make you pay for a digital version of a game you already own, get your head examined.

$ony philosophy "If they already own it, let them buy it again."
