Japan’s Sex Gap: 25% Now “Middle-Aged Virgins”

ronery-man-and-waifu

“Middle-aged virgins,” men whose only sexual activity is onanism, are being highlighted as a major problem in Japanese society, with their numbers burgeoning even as youthful sexual activity increases, creating a “sexual bipolarisation.”

Some data indicates as many as 24.3% of males aged 30-35 are virgins, a statistic which seems to have been worsening, and these men are overwhelmingly poor, leading some to suggest female expectations play a role.

It seems that although the average age of a Japanese person’s sexual experience continues to decrease, at the same time a “sex divide” is ensuring some men remain isolated from the company of women, writes economist and author Takashi Kadokura.

Typically, sexual encounters at school are said to be ones where the female takes no great interest in income or prospects, but once into college and the workplace Japanese women suddenly become much more concerned about a partner’s potential as a source of income, the so-called “three highs”: high height, high academic qualifications, and high income.

A small-scale survey supports this notion: 73.9% of those with annual incomes of less than $20,000 had no partners, whilst only 33.3% of men with incomes of from $90-120,000 lacked partners.

The same survey suggested these poorer men could or would not use prostitutes; 85.5% of the below $20,000 group had never used a brothel, whilst only 37% of men with incomes from $90,000 to $120,000 had never visited such an establishment, itself a rather disturbing figure.

These poorer men are increasingly freeters and NEETs, and with their incomes generally remaining low throughout their lives, rather than peaking in their 40s and 50s as with regular salarymen, Japan may be forming a virgin underclass whose only access to sex and female companionship is through AV and ero-manga.

On the other hand, one of the many such surveys of single women found that the “cut-off line” for marriage for 46% of women was $40,000 a year, with 29% demanding $60,000.

However, 2007 government statistics indicated there are only 2,544,900 employed bachelor men with incomes over $40,000 in the whole country, meaning millions of “excess” women are present hunting for the tiny number of high-income men they consider eligible, whilst the rest are left with only the prospect of fantasies.

The obvious inference is that the major reason the poorer, average men are unable to find partners is because Japanese women are busy chasing dreams of wedding the handful of men with high incomes

i saw some ppl mention here penis size. WEVE BEEN THROUGH THIS TOO MUCH ALREADY SENKAKU! D: The girls want money, not african cock! there's too many sankaku articles to prove it!! they're linked in this article, even. Art couldnt be hitting the message home more than he is already.

But I don't get it, wasnt the feminist movement supposed to free and empower women to make their own income to help support their families, or to even intentionally avoid marriage altogether? This isn't only a problem in Japan, girls/women these days have been set back 50s years all over, even in the US. Teen girls even, I just saw a special on tv about it, are trying far harder than they ever have in the past 100 years to be as sexy and appealing to guys as much as possible, so that they can be accepted by society to have found a guy that will be able to provide for them. Meaning... most women still seem to grow up to be gold diggers. All the sexy girls are dumbass gold diggers, and all the rest are the ones who used the feminist movement to their advantage and don't really need a guy.

What is love? I don't know, I don't think anyone knows anymore, but we could all sure use some of it. Heck, you'd be hard pressed to even find a hint of romanticism in any form in the media these days. For these generations, the moon is just a big cold rock, the stars don't exist outside of floodlights and tabloids, and flowers have been replaced with big dirty diamonds (probably drenched in some blood of african men... ones with big cocks).

Love is being helpful to someone. Love is sharing someone else's needs with your own. Love is accepting someone for their faults, even if you don't agree with them. Love is encouragement and sacrifice. Love is honesty. Love is being in harmony with someone else.

Women don't date NEETs or otaku because the NEETs and otaku don't demonstrate (the key word here) that they can actually fulfill any of these ideas. Although they may BELIEVE in those ideas, if they lack the confidence to demonstrate the strength to do these things, no woman will be attracted to them. That is why women will be attracted to dumbasses and fuck-offs ~ even if they're shithead motherfucks, they demonstrate the capacity to love (even if it's all a visage to lay the women).

Most women really want to take a nice guy over an asshole if both are capable of love. But they won't at all go after a nice guy who doesn't demonstrate an ability to love. And it's understandable, considering everyone wants to be with someone that you can enjoy your time and company with. If you can't show them you're enjoyable/fun/exciting, why would they want to go out with you? If you can't offer them companionship and you come across as unconfident, unexciting, and just filled with lofty ideals, women will always turn away.

Money is just a correlation to people who are confident and demonstrate ability. Women chase after the personality first, even though it usually ends in disappointment. Most of the people who "talk the talk" don't walk the walk. And sadly, the people who are more than willing to "walk the walk" (the otaku) can't "talk the talk." If the otaku learned how to "talk the talk", then things would start looking up. If women learned to see past the exterior personality and see people for who they truly are, then things would start looking up. Instead, everyone is winding up bitter because they're looking in all the wrong places and just assume the opposite sex is fucked up in their thinking. It is indeed a vicious cycle.

Well, you're the first to hit the "what is love?" answer straight on the nail... I would have also taken "baby don't hurt me", though with some cringing.

I know the answer, it's not some kind of magic you feel, it's definable, it's just that love has a long definition (more than even what you said), thus the need for the 4 lettered word, lol.

I asked it to say "who know's what love is anymore?" i mean to say, I feel it's too rare these days. In a way, it's almost non-existant in relationship. That's why there's so many screwed up kids, marriages without love in them will do that. Maybe things have always been this way, but at least there was a time when love was something promoted and bought into. That people of all ages could be interested in and happy to see, on tv, in movies, in books, in stories.

Sex is just another drug without love, although probably the healthiest one you can have. Lust is not love. For me, lust is when you want it, love is when you need it. Wants & Necessities. You've gotta make that urge for a lollypop into an urge for a well cooked meal that will benefit you beyond just a sweet taste.

As for the NEETs not being able to draw women. I think it's both ways really. NEETs can maybe be turned off by real women seeing the way they go so easily after dumbasses and fuck-offs, just as women might be turned off by them being such recluses. Either way, one side has to give. If only one side could give the other a chance, but they need to see past the stereotypes first. All humans are capable of loving. We just need to hope everyone finds someone that clicks with them. The more people that can click for the long term, the better it is for society. If all we're getting is NEETs here and failing relationships there, things need to change.

Maybe all women should really just go ahead and give the 25% guys a chance. lol! Forget about finance. Look, some guys just get out there and fuck whatever they want, but some guys just settle with cuddling 5 foot pillows every night. I mean, go to the comment section of a popular music video or something, on youtube maybe, and compare majority of the kind of comments there with some of the comments here. Maybe NEET and otaku are really just diamonds in the rough? lol...

    Oooooh, bitter, aren't you?

"...most women still seem to grow up to be gold diggers."

By "gold digger", do YOU mean:

    1. A woman who marries with the expectation her husband will provide all financial support for the family, or,

    2. A woman who marries a guy, divorces him for half the money, finds another guy, divorces him, etc. until she feels rich enough?

I don't consider type #1 a "gold digger", as long as her expectation is clearly stated up front, BEFORE engagement.

Type #2 is just another form of scum.

Lazy females go to type #2. Skimming off some guy (or gal) is easier than studying hard in school, getting a job and working for one's own money.

One of the reason there are so many of type #1 in today's so-called modern age is that society and families send out mixed signals as to what's acceptable/expected of women.

When I was a senior in high school, 75% of my chemistry class was female. Out of about thirty students, the top eight were female (the same ones who were kicking my ass over in math class).

Fast-forward to the next year. Some of them were freshmen at the same local university I attended.

Me: "Laura! Hi! It's cool to see you here. I'm in CompSci; what're you in?"
    Laura: "Home Economics."
Me (admittedly tactless, doing *facepalm*): "Home Ec! Holy Fuck--why?!!"
    Laura: "I like it."
Me: "But you could do anything you want - you're brilliant!"
    Laura: "I like Home Ec."

    Me: "Yvonne - hi."
    Yvonne: "Oh, hi."
    Me: "What's your major?"
    Yvonne: "Fashion Design."
Me: (again tactless, thinking the convo with Laura was an aberration): "Are you shitting me?"

    Me: "Doris, what's up?"
Doris: "Guess what?! I'm getting MARRIED!!"
Me (checks her profile; nope, she doesn't look pregnant): "Wow, I'm stunned! A person as smart as you getting married the first month of college?... ah... that's not quite what I meant..."

Me: "have you seen the Renaissance Faire over at the Quad?"

I quit asking women what their majors were. It was too depressing, frustrating, and I would have ended up looking like (more of) a jackass.

Point being, they were smart, motivated, capable women who'd been "mentally jailed" by their upbringing, or something like that.

I think these "poor virgin's" are better off than they know. Sure, they may be a bit lonely some nights but there's lots of worse things a person could be forced to endure. Not for these poor guys are there to be any weddings and honeymoons - but is that the end of the world? I don't think so. Also not for these guys are STD's, nagging wives with unrealistic expectations, bad marriages, divorces, custody battles that they're sure to lose, child or spousal support payments - the list could go on. Hell, you could even make the argument that these guy's simplified, girl-free life styles make them better off in some ways. In the world of Japan - where every type of pornography and erotic service imaginable is easily available to who ever would want it, the lack of steady female companionship really doesn't carry that much sting. If you just *have* to have someone to sleep with you at night, why not just get a room mate?

    04:29 14/10/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

True, it is better to be a lonely virgin than to create another tragic attempt at making a happy family... but if those are the only two possible paths then ppl are screwed. That lonely sadness never goes away until it's fixed. It can and does lead to depression and suicide unless the void is constantly filled with something. Many of these people desire to be loved and to start families. If there's anything a human being should at least accomplish in life, it's to start a family and pass on your blood to a new generation, raise a healthy and happy kid. A healthy happy kid requires happy healthy parents. It's not that I'm saying whither this is necessary in life or not, but it's the bare minimum, I mean you've gotta do something in your life so at least do this much if you can, right?

Human beings all require love just like they require water. Any one who says they don't is absolutely disillusioned. It's too bad that more relationships don't start with it as the foundation... ALL relationships should have love as its foundation.

it all depends on what kinda kids you raise. if you know you're gonna suck at raising children then don't take the risk and create some hellspawn. I mean, im betting that a big problem in japan, probably the stem of why there are so many NEET, is that the parents work far too much and barely look after their own children... then they grow up and complain that their kids don't take care of them, were just a bunch of hard work with little reward, etc etc.

I mean parenting for a lot of people these days is just: make money to keep them alive, let them watch tv to keep them busy, put them in school to get them out of your hair for 8 hours a day, buy them whatever they want to shut them up, and yell at them if they do something that goes against you. yeah, im sure they'll still care for you deep down somewhere... that's what matters right?

sure it's a risk to create lives and help them grow, but if you're in the right mind things skew in your favor, and if you get the rewards then I'm sure there's nothing quite like it.

No, it wasn't just the parents of 'hellspawn' kids who reported being less happy. It was all parents, across the board. Parents are no more happy than people who are childless. In fact, parents may likely be even less happy compared to peers with no kids. If you weren't happy before having kids, then the only thing having children is going to do is add a lot of responsibility and stress to the unhappiness you already had.

Thus, it's just pregnancy insurance. You WILL, if you're a conscious citizen, in the end pop out 2-4 kids, causing 1 to 4 YEARS of maternity leave, depending on country. You're just advancing your salary for that time.

It seems like you don't really go outside since you would know then that woman always get way less money then men. You want to know why? Because there is a risk that a woman may get pregnant and since woman aren't allowed to get fired because of pregnancy they will have a worker that won't be abel to work for a long time, even as famous female actor in hollywood you get way less then men. Also there are more then enaugh billion statistics, studied etc existing that proof that besides that they get less money at everything, saving accounts included [http://mozo.com.au/savings-accounts/articles/women-get-less-money-for-their-super-savings-accounts-than-men/19355646].
