The latest Tales “mothership” title Tales of Graces is due for release just in time to be slaughtered by Final Fantasy XIII, but with the announcement of a Tales of Graces Wii bundle some have begun wondering if this might not signal a (PS3) port is in the offing even now…
Some observers can’t help but notice that each time a Tales game gets bundled with a console the game turns up a year later in a “complete” edition on another platform:
In 2003, Tales of Symphonia was released bundled with the GameCube, only to be released on the PS2 a year later…
And notoriously in 2008 the Xbox 360 received an “exclusive” release of Tales of Vesperia, also bundled, which found its way onto the PS3 a year later amidst much acrimony.
Now Tales of Graces is set to be packaged with the Wii. Might it not be released in “perfect” form before 2010 is out?
The real question may be why Namco feels obliged to keep recycling Tales games into complete editions rather than make multi-platform releases, although the answer may be obvious…
Tales of Beta is available for pre-order on the Wii now.
But Tales have remade all of their games……seriously they really have remade all of there games…….All the mothership titles except Eternai have been remade……2 of them have sequals…
Actually, Abyss/Legendia/Hearts/Innocence weren’t remade and all of them are Mothership titles.
Destiny 2/Rebirth/Phantasia/Eternia saw PSP ports with little to no extras (Phantasia was just given new sprites and a full voice over like Vesperia PS3 while I forget what little Destiny 2 got). However, the difference between them and their original counterparts are so little that they can’t be considered remade.
Destiny is the one Tales game I consider TRULY remade. It got new everything and the DC version even lets you play Leon’s side of the story, offering another take on the storyline.
Vesperia PS3 has enough content for it to be considered a remake but it still isn’t quite there. Patty already had her role in the story but I just think that it wasn’t possible to include the entirety of that game on the 360.
I’ve got Graces and I think this whole beta issue is stupid. Missing data or bugs simply mean that either the game was rushed or Quality Assurance didn’t do their job all the way. In Vesperia PS3’s case, there are numerous reasons (most of them speculated) as to why PS3 got a “complete” edition. I didn’t even expect Vesperia to come to PS3. I was hoping for a new Tales game but I’m not complaining.
Besides, for their first real 3-D entry, Team Destiny still did an amazing job. If Tales remakes or so-called “betas” are bothering you, then stop paying attention to them. Tales games appearing across multiple platforms means that MORE users have access to that game, especially the PSP re-releases since that means portability and those games can be played anywhere.
Reason will be money of course 😉
Exclusive doesn’t mean anything in video games nowadays. Except for 1st party games.
Huh, if S*ny fanbois don’t mind getting inferior (Wii level graphics) game after a year (= even more inferior)…
Oh, wait, PS3 games suck so badly that no one will notice the difference anyway ;P
Sweet. Graces is on the wii. I better keep my PS3 in tip top shape for next Christmas.
Resident Evil 4, Viewtiful Joe and Killer 7 were the huge Capcom “exclusives” for Gamecube. And it was supposed that Resident Evil later games would be exclusive for the Nintendo system. Not a long time later these three games were released for PS2. And not only that but it released a sequel of Viewtiful Joe as well.
“Exclusive” my ass! The only exclusives that are actually exclusives are Rareware games and DOA francise.
It was Capcom Five precisely, with PN 03 and Deadh Phoenix (and the first remain an exclusive title).
Btw this article is crap.
