It's hard to call it better or worse than Index, 'cause they both take different directions. This isn't like a retelling of the events of Index, but more like it's own story. (If they keep to the manga, anyway.) They episode was good, though.
Hey go watch it. It's way better than index plus 110 percent more moe.
Personally, I really enjoyed the first season and railgun's manga. I don't really know why people say it was bad. I thought the story was good the characters were interesting. In fact its one of my favorites. I would like to read the novels but I cant read japanese.

its in the credits they play the OP (same with every first episode) i saw the taiga look-alike but not shana cause that would be hard cause shana's design in eye's are different to both toradora and index character design i watched episode 1 it was bad made index series look decent which say's alot cause that was bad also...
i just watched it, gives me a slice of life feeling. Just wondering there was an ipod reference some where in there, can they actually copy the whole ipod layout like that and not get sued?
They can as long:
a) they don't claim it's an ipod
b) it has distinctive differences or is otherwise clearly unidentifiable from an original

i couldnt get past episode 5 on Index, the story and characters were boring to me(cept for Kaori Kanzaki!). Aside from all the ability powers, Railgun has a slice of life feel of it.

C'mon guys. In the second picture, sixth from the left with her back to us. Short girl in the green sailor school uniform with long dark hair. Dark thigh-high stockings. That's Shana.
In the first picture, the little girl eating the crêpe on the right has hair and eyes shaped like Taiga, palette-swapped. Ryuuji is obvious, though his mother doesn't quite look like Yasuko.
Ok, I see Shana, but not seeing the Toradora resemblance.
