I thought most people knew that China pretty much kick-started the Japanese society and economics (even some Japanese don't deny that). From language, writings and complex maths. Can't forget the many deviations from food. Even the art of paper folding was brought over when they started trading which has now become what is known as Origami. Hell even in APH (Axis Power Hetalia) has shown may times Chibi Japan learning from Ancient China.
