Top 10 Manga You’d Like to See Continued

rurouni-kenshin.jpg

A survey asking manga fans which titles they would like to see continued anew even after concluding yields some not entirely unsurprising results, although in some cases it is hard to see how the events of the story lend themselves to any continuation…

The survey, conducted by Oricon, took in 1,000 Japanese men and women in equal numbers, evenly distributed amongst those in their teens, twenties, thirties and forties.

The results:

1. Slam Dunk

2. Hana Yori Dango

3. Dragonball

4. Death Note

5. Hikaru no Go

6. Touch

7. Itazura na Kiss

8. Love Com

9. Candy Candy

10. Rurouni Kenshin

You'd be killing the image of a nameless specter if you did that. Remember, if multiple people share the same name, you have to think of their face, so writing Anonymous, Mr. No Name, or No Name (to cover the Japanese chans) would be absolutely nothing as they have the face of a collective entity. Not to mention fake names don't worry anyways. Fuck yiu're retarded.

Crap Note? Great idea! I think you just created the next sequel to Death Note. Imagine the possibilities! Here's the promo:

"In a world where there are douchebags you really don't like. Imagine the power to make any person crap their pants to DEATH! Criminals run in fear as they succumb to a horrible death. The greatest detective in the world L(is dead)! But that's no problem for Japanese Task Force. L's rotting body is dug up and resurrected as a zombie to face this new threat in the name of justice and brains. Who will win in this battle of shits!? Coming soon in 2010 when Zombie L and Shitty Kira go all out in a battle of the century!"

    What do you think?

That is canon: the movie is about Light as a death god, talking to Ryuk about everything he did, before going off to the portal thing to travel to Earth.

Kenshin had already concluded with 2 different endings, the manga the happy ending and reflections the sad ending. What more do you want =/

I want to see the third arc of the TV series animated, that's what. Reflections had a 30-minute summary of an arc that was longer than the first two combined.

It's nice to see RuroKen mentioned in this list, but I feel that it should stay the way it is. Kenshin earned his happy ending and Seishouhen was a complete disaster. If anything, the Jinchuu arc should be animated and do away with the crappy filler they made years before.

Why on earth would you want Death Note to continue? It can't actually keep going unless another magically insane genius goes stark raving mad and that would just spoil everything about the current plot.

Personally I'd choose X as I'd just like to see it finished let alone continued. :(

    Comment by Anonymous
    16:53 15/09/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

Um, no? Why would it need to go through the same motions to continue the series?

    Comment by Anonymous
    16:57 15/09/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

Because anyone who does not fit the description of stark raving mad genius would get caught almost immediately and if they didn't it would go against everything outlined in the plot.

Death Note was good, it ended alright, I would hate to see something like that continued. It would purely be out of the wish to make more money. And that wish is why we end up with crap like Harry Potter 6 and 7.

Once again, you're working off the idea that the plot has to be anything like the original. it doesn't need to be about a guy/girl getting their hands on a death note and using it to kill people.

    Comment by Anonymous
    17:06 15/09/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

What the hell else are you meant to do with a Death Note then? Write love letters?

The concept behind death note is a notebook which is used to kill people, if it no longer is used for that it kinda defeats the purpose entirely

    17:10 15/09/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

Maybe it is in the future, where the death gods got bored of gambling, so they let loose thousands of death notes, and society has fallen apart into chaos. The story could focus on various groups, some fueling the dementia, others fighting to rebuild their lives.

Maybe it's set in the past and the author uses a death note or two, or many, to explain various occurrences in history -- the plague springs to mind.

I don't know, I'm not a writer. The point is it doesn't need to follow the plot laid out in the first series.

The second idea would actually work for a few chapters or volumes. It doesn't have much longevity though.

Because it totally wasn't planned to have 7 books from like, the first chapter. ?_?

I could see it lasting a while; a bunch of nobles cause the 'plague' to further increase their hold over the lower classes, while some in their ranks begin to question their methods and so turn to the gods for help and guidance, only to be answered by a shinmegami. Man becomes monster, becomes what they hate etc.

Or maybe a cruel and greedy doctor is causing sickness and disease to make money? His/her family gets sick and he pleads with the gods to make them better. But they don't want to help him after what he did. Maybe he goes mad and kills everyone. Maybe he has to do good on Earth. Whatever.

I wish authors had the courage to expand a little and to delve into the less explored areas of creative writing and illustration. It seems all the fans want is dribble and clique. For example: just once I'd love to see a movie have an unexpected ending -- Gump stands up from the buss stop, crosses the road and gets hit by a bus. Happy? No. Heart warming? No. What you want to see? Probably not. But at least it's different. I can take one look at a manga, anime, movie, whatever, and tell instantly how it will play out.

Down with character templates and cliques.

It could be done, but you'd need a whole new plot and different set of characters, maybe one or two minor characters from the original.

One way I could see it done is that a group of people suddenly die. They were all in the same class in High School, only survivor a guy/girl who had attended school under a false name. Survivor realizes one of the other deaths was faked and that this person has a death note, but doesn't know which one. Now in race against time to figure who killer is before killer gets his/her name right.
