From Software’s latest title “3D Dot Game Heroes,” a PS3 RPG recreating the bitmap sprite graphics of decades prior in a spectacular original new visual style, is fast attracting attention as a possible hit.
Although attracting much interest for its visual elements, details on the game itself are still relatively sparing. Hopefully, it will be as promising as it looks.
The game is available for international pre-order now, and will be going on sale November 5th.

this is awsome its old school zelda under a different name
It even has the logo! Except instead of a shield and a giant Z, there's this dragon.
I hope you can build useful stuff in this game with all them pixels. That way it wont be a zelda ripoff
If they just called it ZELDA, released it on a NINTENDO-system and claimed miyamoto shigeru made it, this would definitely be a huge success.
Looks fantastic. I hope that it comes out in English in the not-too-distant future.
This looks so damn cool. I mean, it's very strange, but I love the concept of thinking of the pixels in 8 bit characters as 'blocks'.
For some reason that looks fun to me.
this is awesome!!
Grreaaaat...from pixels to cubes. Congratulations, you just unlocked the 3rd dimension.
Looks more like Dragon Quest...
this is shit!
shit, right?
It looks alot like Lego meets 3D Bitmapping. It will be interesting how the game is in actual motion/gameplay.
This is so pretentious it makes me vomit blood. And anyone who compares this disgusting eyesore to sprites deserves death. Sprites have charm. This mess does not.
WOW!!!
That's a game I'll put on my "To buy when obsolete" list for later!!! Yeah, it does look a lot like "Link to the Past", esp the mountains that produce endless boulders, but that's cool! The pixelation, however, is at the "Legend of Zelda" / "Final Fantasy" NES level and LTTP is SNES and looks almost like a real cartoon.
I think the art is balanced, however. IMHO if they doubled the pixels it'd just look like horrible CG.
Here's what I'd really like to see "Retro" style:
Atari 2600 "Adventure" done with simple 3DCG. Perhaps an expanded quest and area scrolling, not just simple rooms. The dragons are still annoying vore freaks, but they don't look like F*cking DUCKS. However, the graphics have "Cel-Shading" and textures taken from "Bob Pepper"s artwork, the artist who did the cover! So its a cartoon in rich, lush artwork!
So does it have English Subs or not?
Looks just like Persona 4 'Void Quest'...
wow This looks really good, tha graphics look so clear and vibrant
cant wait to see more info on this game
I'm a sucker for ARPG ,DO WANT
You know if you look carefully, you'll see Zelda amidst those stupid blocks. Chickens and (gasp!) bushwhacking anyone? LOL
Wow.
Why in god's name would someone put that much effort into trying to make shitty 8-bit graphics look prettier instead of coding art that doesn't look retarded?
Like putting five coats of polish on a turd. Shines up pretty nice, still looks like shit.
ITT 14 year old kids think that Zelda invented chickens, villages and grass. There's a lot more DQ stuff anyway, particularly the throne rooms being pretty much a carbon copy (rather than just DURR IT'S SOME MEDIEVAL HOUSES, MUST BE ZELDA) and the fact that there's a coffin following him in some of the images.
Smooth and clear 3D but no viewable panchira and upskirts.. No thanks. :<
Amazing and cool concept anyway. :3
looks like the Persona 4 dungeon
Damn, i hate that boss... as well as that fugly looking character.
Oh how I want to play this.
Should be for the PSN or XBL, not a normal retail game.
Just looks like a poor rip-off mixing the Lego games graphic style with some elements of Zelda.
Instant pass and questionable why this even needed an article.
Don't like an article then don't read it.
Because it's a PS3 game and Artefact needs any chance he can get to be a fanboy. This game looks like shit by the way. There's no nostalgia riding it because it's a new title.
Throw the name dragon quest on it and it'd make more sense. Still looks like shit though.
So I guess Anon never bought Retro Game Challenge.
Anyone else feel like it's borrowing alot of elements from Zelda?
Sure is Magic Boomerang, Tektikes and Cucoos around here 8D
mah boi, this game is what all true warriors strive for!
i have ps3 but don't know if i want to buy this or not...
must get... if it comes out in english
Awesome, I've been waiting for when creativity comes back to from software and it has finally seem to have happend!
Hey, looks just like FF4. And that hero, isnt that Cecil?
Looks more like a Zelda/DQ mix to me. Dark knight Cecil's sprite had his helmet horns the same color as his helmet if I recall. Plus there were those creepy yellow helmet eyes.
Though with so few pixels to work with, it never ceases to amaze how we can actually tell the difference between so many historic sprite characters.
Thank you!
I was wondering how long it would take someone to point that out. You just got 10 retro points from me, since the majority of people can spot Zelda, but it seems only the really old school tend to remember Dragon Quest much these days.
When I saw that second screenshot, my first thought was "omg Dragon Quest!". Mostly because I was only about 4 years old when that first came out, and sucked really bad at it.
I saw that throne room a lot. :D
Well, you got teh point there
That gameplay heavily reminds me of Legend of Zelda, with the boomerang and the dungeon.
I suppose the possibility that this is intentional never crossed your mind?
Wait, Anon wasn't being sarcastic? Just when you think you know a guy....
and the chicken!
and the hopping spider with four legs.
the rocks falling off the cliff... gouron mountain...
even the bgm sounds too much like zelda
looks fuckwin, if i had a ps3 i'd check it out, nostalgia'd all over the place. second to last image looks like the spider enemy from zelda one.
Do want
Awesome concept, but it just looks wrong somehow.
Should be isometric rather than perspective.
If they wanted to recreate sprite graphics ala Zelda then they probably shouldn't have shouldn't have rendered it to show block by blocks. Retro sprite graphics are usually seamless and don't necessarily look like lego blocks if that makes any sense.
whoops got signed out somehow
because the gameplay looks like an imitation of zelda
every scene I culd find a direct location that it parrellels to LTTP
True, Sony game creator once said GAMES from Nintendo were pretty childish, guess they hadnt give a real thought before creating this one, kinda like they ate their own words~ totally idiotic
Welcome to Crow Shack, Sony. How would you liek your crow today?
you mean chicken, right ?
its chicken, right ?! RIGHT ?! D:
From Software isn't Sony. They have made games for both the Wii and the Xbox360.
I also doubt Sony was talking about the Zelda series when they said that, if they ever said it at all.
