Er, I think you guys are the ones who get it wrong. Loli and lolicon, those terms really are use on real people in Japan. In Japan, no one uses the term paedophiles and paedophilia, they do call child touchers lolicon. It is the west who tries to hijack the term and use it purely for 2D imagery. And if you are in doubt, go read about and you will find that the term itself originated from Japan.
Actually the term lolicon is derived from lolita comples which means the love for females who look underage, that doesn't mean that they are underage.
Actually I do know where the term comes from, I can even quote you the book. The term is derived from lolita no doubt but the Japanese is the ones who came up with the term lolicon and uses the term loli for under-age girls. And since we are arguing about what the Japanese means when they use terms like that, I think we should be safe if we actually stick to what they intended their meanings to be. Unless you claim to be Japanese or have lived there for more than 10 years, than I might take your views into consideration. Face it people, it is the west who wants to hijack the terms for 2D use. If not, buy a ticket and fly to Japan and try proclaiming your love for loli and that you are a lolicon.

The problem in part lies with the terms "loli" and "lolicon", loli basically is short for lolita (afaik) and can describe real and fictional underage females. Lolicon also has two uses, one is the genre of hentai/ecchi material and the other describes a pedophile in reality. So you are to expect both sides if you look for stuff tagged with those words if the site focuses on all sorts of news.
It seems that the only reason to use "loli" and "lolicon" when talking about real life is to avoid having to say "little girl" and "pedophile". Try reading through an article on here with "loli" switched to "little girl" and "lolicon" switched to "pedophile", it's creepy as hell.
