New 3.0 PS3 Firmware Faster Than Ever

The release of the PS3 3.0 firmware appears set to bring a noticeable speed increase to the console, though the performance anomalies apparently evident between the PS3 and PS3 Slim still seem unanswered…
Just how fast can be ascertained from the comparison videos below:
In all cases 3.0 appears faster.
Of course, any substantive conclusion would have to wait for more detailed benchmarks, but for now it appears Sony is intent on pulling out all the stops, and their claims of untapped potential may be less spurious than previously thought…

I have no idea why anyone would care about a 1-2 second bootup/load difference, be it between consoles or games. Kids today
fucking seriously. defragging the drive would make a bigger difference than this.
Over many moons of game playing, it adds up. So let's also defrag the hard drive, and goddamn we're good to go.

Apparently some people don't realize those 1-2 seconds add up over time, just as anon mentioned above. I don't think PS3 even has a defrag utility anyways?
Only shitty windows have to be told to defrag, most systems either dont have the issue or do it automaticly.

I downloaded 3.0 to my fat PS3 2 nights ago. It's kinda weird. They completely changed menu. I like it tho.

This settles it, I'm getting a PS3 before getting a new laptop. It's painful to be stuck with a (shit)mac, but It'll be worth it for the PS3....

For the extra $500+ you'll end up paying for a mac, you could get software to keep your windows 7 virus free, and get a few games and accessories as well.
you forget that mac HAS virus' now, M$ was never alone a unix based one exsisted for a while, its be patched so it doesnt affect Mac and Linux but its not totally impossible for a mac to get a virus considering how easy it is to do stuff in unix base command line, anyway a good windows will beat a good mac 100% of the time and prolly still be cheaper
