Aso: “Poor People Shouldn’t Marry”

Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso has told the nation’s youth that they shouldn’t marry if they have no money, and that they can’t expect any respect from their partner if they have no money.
In remarks to a gathering of students, he had this to say about marriage at a (relatively) young age, in response to the question “Many young people can’t afford to get married, isn’t this contributing to the low birth rate?”:
“If you have no money it is best not to marry. I feel it’d be pretty hard to get any respect as a marriage partner if you have no income.”
Japanese demographers predict a population collapse if another generation puts off having children.
Aso is famous for putting his foot in his mouth unusually often even for one of Japan’s worthless politicians, but in this case his comments appear quite deliberate.
For a man who is supposed to be tackling the issue of Japan’s ongoing demographic collapse, his words certainly seem ill considered…

I think his comment would have been more reasonable if he said something like, "Before one marries, one must make financial preparations, i.e. save up."
Aso's remark was just plain stupid and offensive to those who are not materially well-off. I mean, just because a person is poor, doesn't mean they are not worth people's respect.

Vicious, pre-nups aren't worth the paper they're printed on. The fantasy where you can have a contract that says "you leave with what you came with" is just that...a fantasy....a pre-nup like that can be defeated in a heartbeat. The only pre-nups that stand up are ones that give the poor partner (read: wife) a fair recompense for time put in....well what's the point of the prenup if you have to pay? The bottom line is that no one deserves to be paid merely for being in a relationship and that's what divorce settlement truly is....a form of prostitution....at the end of a marriage the man must now go and pay for the sex he had. It would be cheaper to get a hooker once a week (and more honest)
And as for children, carrying and bearing them is the natural state for a woman...their bodies are specifically made to do this. Blame nature for their lot in life, having to bear children, but asking to be paid for something you were made to do is weak...what's next, you want to be paid to eat? And as for taking care of kids, why don't you compare youth crime statistics from now with those of say 100 years ago when men handled discipline in the home. If women call what they do in the home "taking care of the kids" then they're lying to themselves. What they're doing is taking care of themselves first and foremost.

You shouldn't be in any hurry to get married, play around the field, gain a bit of experience, be certain that you're fine with the fact that you will get little to no time alone from your partner once you're married.

He likely means this in as well a sense as he can. When he means marriage he's likely talking about having kids. The financial pros of marriage are obvious, but often the poor have statistically been known to foster more children than they can care for (the rich have fewer, generally speaking). Of course I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, and assuming he's not a "ONLY THE RiCH SHOULD ENJOY MARRIAGE OR ANY SORT OF SEX ELL OH ELL"
And also, it's easy to rap on him for sounding like an asshole, but think about it from a personal perspective. If you can't provide for the one you love and protect them..
