Black Rock Shooter creator Huke is an artist whose fame is certainly rising, and looking at his superb art it is easy to see why.
Huke also participates in, and is a member of, the highly regarded “supercell” circle of artists and musicians, whose artistic telents in both illustration and music, to say nothing of the combination of the two in the form of a variety of famous MADs, have earnt them considerable acclaim.
Another member of similar artistic accomplishment is Redjuice – his introductory article may be of interest.
Though rapidly accruing fame and even the design credits to an anime and a number of hit Vocaloid tunes, Huke still describes himself as a “freeter,” and is otherwise something of a cipher, so it is perhaps best to know him through his superb works.
Interestingly, many of these works also have interesting “how-to draw” videos, which are embedded below where appropriate…
He does in fact have a modest portfolio of work aside from Black Rock Shooter, covering a variety of characters, both original and from other works:
This horned girl is “Deadmaster,” an apparent antagonist to BRS, and is set to appear in the anime.
Additionally, he has approached characters from Gears of War and Halo, as well as other unexpected franchises, so his versatility seems indisputable (though he does not apparently turn his hand to any erotic or moe subjects).
Of course, his most famous character is none other than ブラック★ロックシューター / Black Rock Shooter, famous from the MAD of the same name (below), who, though generally described as an “original character”, will likely never escape comparisons with Hatsune Miku.
She is certainly nothing directly to do with Miku, but the nature of any indirect connection to Hatsune Miku is in the eye of the beholder…
You can follow his progress at his homepage, on Pixiv, Nico, or indeed on the Channel (where some high resolution versions are available for those seeking even bigger wallpapers).
Eh yal yyam
as usual, last photo is the best.
Len and Rin picture is sooooo cool.
AWESOME
There’s really nothing particularly similar about BRS’s character design compared to Miku. It’s just kind of mentally burned in from a music video mixing the two together. I was going to say their hair is the only similarity but now that I’ve seen BRS’s hair better it’s really not that similar lol
