Sony’s enigmatic PS3 Slim has finally had an official announcement.
The PS3 Slim will hit stores in September, at a respectable pricepoint of $299, €299 or ¥29,980, Sony said at German event Gamescon.
The PS3 Slim itself is said to be a third lighter than the original, draw a third less power, and will come with a 120GB HDD. Other features will be the same as the soon to be PS3 Cheap.
Official pictures are still lacking, but this probably means the previously revealed designs are close to the mark.

I faintly remember the old ps2 slim having some heat issues in the long run. I wonder, will this have any hardware issues as well. Still, doesn't really touch me as I still don't own any new gen console.

2. European citizens on average work less (over 2 work weeks less) than the average american citizen.
3. The EU has some of the highest tariffs on imported goods in the world, even if said good has a corporate headquarters within the EU.
4. The UK is playing 250 pounds (Vats included), so the difference is not that different.
5. Average sales tax in the US (not including Alaska and Oregon) is about 9%. Higher if you live in states like Vermont. These are not included in the US price.
6. Gas is far more expensive in Europe, there for COST OF DELIVERY MUST ALSO BE INCLUDED.

I knew waiting to buy a PS3 was a good idea! I know what I'll be getting next month.
MS is going to release a 360 Slim tomorrow for their conference.
It's gonna have no harddrive and no disc drive. Just a power and reset button. You have to supply the drive yourself. It'll only cost $120, cheaper than the Arcade model.
In the meanwhile they'll try to downplay the PS3 Slim announcement by putting their Elite model to $299 phasing out the Pro. The Elite model will have a disc drive and harddrive, but don't know why they're not including HD cables this time around.
I'm curious how they are going to defeat the problem of the 970fx heat issue. Shrinking the dye and making a larger heatsink can only do so much, plus cramming that thing in a smaller space and reducing said heat sink can only lead to the severe heating issues that plagued the machine before hand.

Well, personally, I like fatter, bulkier models (I mean, not so huge...). Get too slim, you get too fragile.

the 60gb PS3s have full BC unlike the fat 40/80/160 and slim 120gb models.
combine that with SW 3.6+ or 3.8 for a more full ps2 gaming experience.
Now its really time to start considering getting a PS3.
Yes, it's now becoming very affordable...Even I might consider getting one sooner or later with this new development.

I'm happy with my fat ps3. Which i brought specially for all the games exclusive for it. This is just like the fat one excpet for size, and usually big = sexier.
I won't get this anytime soon, but I won' be surprised if I get one as an upgrade.
