A man has burnt down his home after his mother threw out his Gundam collection, lamenting “I’ve lost my precious Gundam, I may as well die.”
The man, a 29-year-old factory worker and Gundam collector in Hyogo prefecture, who needless to say lived in his mother’s house, became so distraught at the loss of his collection at the hands of his mother that felt his only recourse was fire.
He doused his room in kerosene and ignited it with a lighter, causing a conflagration which swiftly burnt the two storey wooden house to the ground.
Apparently not quite ready to die along with his Gundam, he fled the house and escaped without injury.
His mother (55), who was in the building as her son burnt it down, also escaped.
He explained what happened thus: “My precious Gundam plamo were all thrown out by my mother; I thought I’d die too.”
He has been arrested on charges of arson.

Mothers thoughtlessly, or spitefully, throwing out their children’s treasured possessions are the stuff of legend the world over; some even feel driven to murder in the face of such loss…
lol only in japan
I read this as “Otaku Burns Down Mother’s Home in Gundam” and then was disappointed when I saw the full title.
Me too man. so depressing. I was like WAT GUNDAM?
The fault is not with the Otaku, but with the mother. She makes no effort whatsoever in attempting to understand what her son is going through. It was foolish of her to take matters into her own hands when she could have consulted a psychiatrist on the matter. Psychological addictions can be dangerous and are not easy to cure. It’s a case of an amateur playing doctor. Parents are foolish to not understand their children.
Also, his personality is obviously the result of bad parenting. If he lives with his mother, then something is very wrong. I harbor much hatred towards overprotective parents who pamper their children so much that they lose out on their social life and independence that they turn into obsessed otakus. Then the idiotic mother wonders why is her son such a fucking retard, oblivious to her own mistakes. I say f♥♥k off, bitch. You don’t deserve to ask that question, you don’t deserve to even TRY to treat your son by throwing out his gundams, because it’s your fucking damn fault, the damage is done. Obviously it’s not a case of bad influence from friends, eh? As if he has any. Seriously, I will arbitrarily assume and conclude that Otakus have sad lives because of pathetic parenting.
I’m done ranting for today kthxbai =D
I’m a little late to this discussion, but I can’t believe that not a single one of you nerds even brought up the fact that he could get a roommate if moving out is cost prohibitive.
Seriously. Anti-social much?
In the States, most people move out and would rather live with complete strangers than deal with their parents. Sure, they may get some fringe benefits (e.g. free meals, housekeeping, allowance, etc.), but you forfeit your rights as an individual when you accept those benefits.
If you want to be treated and respect as an adult, then find a way to live without relying one someone for a handout. Living with roommates is more of a business move than anything, even when living with friends. If you live with your parents, it’s like you’re living at a homeless shelter. You play by the rules or you sleep on the streets.
Was the mother right in destroying his collection? Not really. But if you view it as a landlord-tenant relationship, in which he owed his mother money for several months’ worth of rent, the mother had every right to repo all his s♥♥t and change the locks. If he can’t make good on the payments, then he has loses all rights to his goods and she’s allowed to destroy everything.
The amount of rage that you are all showing at the mother’s actions leads me to believe that most of you are still living at home and are pissed at some s♥♥t your parents recently did. I really hope your parents just kick you out.
he doesnt seem ‘pampered’ given he has his own job in a factory which is a good-paying job (at least in USA)
THE f♥♥k LADY?!
You dont just through out gundams! I hope you burn…and actually die this time >_>
Ameeeeen!
Four and Psycho Gundam? Hmm… Four never had a chance to become a mother anyway, so something doesn’t connect here.
