Top Japanese porno hawker DMM has realised the true potential of the PS3, at least for committed onanists: using their online service, a vast array of pornographic videos can be accessed, a world first.
The service, DMM.TV, works by way of DMM’s custom PS3 software, distributed free on a Blu-ray disc. With the software loaded a wide variety of services can be accessed (DMM is a major player in Japan’s huge retail AV market), including high definition downloadable and streaming pornography of all kinds, including ero-anime.
You can request the discs from their website. Currently the only compatible device is the PS3.
Just what effect this will have on the PS3’s sales remains to be seen, but it is hard to see it being negative…

Sony desperately needs money now. Their last resort is porn.

Next up: HD eroge for the PS3. Only in Japanese though, but since blu-ray is region free you can import them. This will also benefit the oversaturated, struggling Windows eroge makers who've been dealt the double-whammy of gaijins torrenting their stuff (Hongfire) AND complaining about them (Equality Now).
The Wii has already established itself as the family-friendly console, and the Xbox 360 has positioned itself as the place for former games on Windows who have made the transition to a more piracy-controlled environment.
Being the most expensive console with a tech-heavy slant, Sony already realized that most PS3 buyers tend to be tech-savvy adults with home theaters. So surely they really did analyze the market and concluded that porn for consoles is viable and won't hurt their mainstream reputation anymore. Especially since moms and grandmas haven't been buying PS3s, they doubt they ever will. So what else to do but milk ronery men of cash using the power of titties.
