The recently proposed ban on loli has finally been rejected, after the current session of the Diet broke up without reaching any agreement on its scope.
Although politicians have expressed an intent to revisit the ban in a new session, given that an election is imminent this seems unlikely to take place in the near future, and mobilising political and media resources to pursue such legislation again looks to be an unlikely priority given the lukewarm response to the motion.
Police are currently using existing statutes more aggressively, which perhaps also lessens the perceived need for any new legislation.

I'm glad the ban failed. In a legal perspective, to allow a Judge to determine the age of the subject matter in 2D is merely the Judge's opinion and is in no way proof or an undeniable fact that the subject is underage. Not like the subject matter in 2D can provide an identification confirming their age, so it's difficult to prove the subject's actual age. These are fictional characters for goodness sake, the whole proposal to ban was a joke.
