Top 10 Manga to Leave to Posterity

A survey of the top ten manga the Japanese would like to see left to posterity reveals the paragon of literary greatness in comic form is apparently a basketball manga, and that future generations might be disappointed should they happen not to like shonen manga…
The list, compiled by chart masters Oricon:
1. Slam Dunk
2. One Piece
3. Dragonball
4. Doraemon
5. Sazae-san
6. Detective Conan
7. Kochikame
8. Chibi Maruko-chan
9. Full Metal Alchemist
10. Hana Yori Danshi
The survey took a stratified sample of 900 men and women, asking 150 men and 150 women from those in their teens, those in their twenties and those in their thirties, all of whom answered yes to the question “do you have an interest in manga?”

The list was made by asking people of different age groups so the ones that got that high are the ones that were popular among all the age groups.
That might be why there are many very long old and still ongoing manga there and why its so full of shonen.
Kids like shonen, older kids still like it and adults might still remember liking it.
For something to get that high on the list it would have to appeal to all the age groups.
I find all this very interesting, many currently popular manga are apparently only popular with kids while older classics like dragon ball still stand relevant.
More than a third of those aren't exactly "shonen", though
Yu-Gi-Oh! and Death Note were robbed, that is all...

Anyways , OP is definitely not a surprise , whether you like or not , that series got a real story ,no matter how much you try to bash it , you can never deny the fact of majority's choice and taste. I don't necessarily like all of these series, but I agree with all of them. All of these deserved to be "classics."

It's amazing to see how many butt-hurt people there are about the poll. It's just opinions from a selected group of people, it's not like it's absolute and those are the best 10 of all time. If you don't like it, then just make your own poll and ask people who have the same interests as you if you want it to be the way you want it.

Also, think about the audience that the manga you're a fan of is intended for before you complain about the list. After all, anime is rare in Japan and it can be assumed to be about the same for manga...
Nope , it's a different story here in Japan mate , sorry. It's all about the general's taste , so this is more of a country's differences (so culture might have to play a critical part here). No need to bash and troll the poll actually , this is Japan's rate and so does the other countries have its own version for their part.
I never expected the likes of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou popping up in such popularity lists but the lack of seinen or josei works is disturbing.

Bleach started pretty good. It got crap when they started using excuses to make him more powerful.

Any action manga would take a nose dive after the first arc or after 200 chapters, even No. 2 and No. 3 of this survey. The good thing about One Piece and Dragonball is that it shoots back up with another refreshing arc/storyline. Bleach hardly surprises me anymore. Naruto every once in awhile. The Americans will eventually learn too in the long run.

Although it's an anime list, not manga, One Piece is still in the Top 10 most watched anime in Japan for a very very long time (number 2 as of last week). Bleach and Naruto are nowhere to be found.
In fact, the list complies nicely with the manga list above.

it's a surprise really considering the fanboys out there or maybe they're not as huge in Japan as it is outside of it.
Naruto is the most critically acclaimed overrated series at its best. Bleach is the best contender of the epic loopholes at its best. Now you know the reason why they are out of the league.
