Mother Makes Man’s Head into Soup for Daughter

A woman has been found guilty of decapitating a man in order to make his head into a soup with which to cure her daughter’s mental illness, which she had her daughter drink.
The woman, a resident of China’s Sichuan province, apparently believed her mentally ill daughter could be cured of her affliction if she were to drink some healthy human head soup.
To this end, she first got a 76-year-old into a drunken stupor with the aid of a friend, and then bludgeoned him into unconsciousness, after which she cut off his head and, with the aid of her husband, cooked the head together with duck into a tasty soup.
She then had her 25-year-old daughter drink up the soup in the hopes that her long running condition would be cured. Her daughter was apparently non compos mentis at the time.
Despite her efforts to dispose of the bloody remains of the man, she was apprehended and tried, and was recently found guilty.
She has been handed a death sentence, but in an uncharacteristic display of leniency the courts offered her a reprieve in the form of a stay of execution, meaning if she can keep out of trouble for two years she will merely be sentenced to life imprisonment.
We do not hear whether her daughter’s condition was improved by the broth.

I thought murder usually comes with the death sentence in countries which still allow death sentences. I mean, for God's sake, she MURDERED a person, in cold blood. With the intent in murdering him. She KNEW what the consequences are.

Drill holes in the head = called trepanation, done by several civilizations, mayan, astecas, and today in Holland.

Am I right to say you can buy shrunken heads from certain shops? I highly doubt your average 7 Eleven store would stock them...wait before anyone thinks I plan on buying, I'm just curious...And yeah they are pretty impressive. That documentary I saw showed how it was done using pig skin(?). I knew I should have taped it 4 years ago.

The hole drilling is meant,
to reduce sub dura swelling.
This is the sack, in which your brain,
is kept.
For example,
When you receive a crushing blow to the head, a concussion, you may pinch off the sinuses from which cerebral spinal fluid exits the brain, and filters into the sub archnid space (this is under the dura mater),
this blocking of CSF flow, results in a buldge under the sack (the dura mater), this swelling, presses on the brain itself, and causes may symptoms.
So, at the site of the crushing blow, later, you might drill a little hole there, and poke a little hole in the membrane directly under the skull, thus, CSF would skirt out nicely, and relieve the pressure, ending the symptoms.
Then you start to worry about infection...
Hope this cleared it up for some people.
It depends on the diagnosis. Kind of like Russian Roulette. You have the symptoms but you don't know the cause. So taking that shot maybe a blank and save your life or at least in this case could relieve the pain. However there is that chance that you got the bullet. Which doesn't help at all. In a medical centre it can be treated correctly for the problem and avoid making a risky choice. However when out in the middle of nowhere, with very little method to analyse the symptoms to come to a conclusion nor is there a fail safe. There's a higher risk of making things worse.
She had a perfectly good remedy to stop mental illness (in the 76-year-old man) but then ruined it by adding the duck.
Now it's nothing but quack medicine.
