New Haruhi Episode Airs – Second Season Underway

The 12th episode of the Haruhi broadcast has aired, once again giving confirmation that the re-broadcast is indeed a reshuffling of the original episodes, intended to allow for the light novel’s stories to appear in their correct chronological order.

Since only 4 of the first season’s episodes remain unaired with 16 more episodes remaining in the broadcast, the 2nd Haruhi season can essentially be considered to have fully begun.

The newest episode, which will probably come to be known as episode 12 in the overall series, is “Endless Eight”, a short story from the novels detailing the SOS Brigade’s playful summer vacation. Again, a bevy of screenshots from the episode and a recap is available below:

During summer break, Kyon is lounging at home with his little sister.

“Incoming Call

Haruhi Suzumiya”

Haruhi orders Kyon to attend a surprise brigade meeting, and to bring a swimsuit.

Kyon is confused…

So is Imouto.

Cue OP, “Super Driver”:

End OP Sequence.

A mysterious (?) figure appears…

“Endless Eight”

Kyon makes his way over to the meeting spot.

Kyon somehow manages to arrive last of all, despite arriving 15 minutes early.

Haruhi declares that their destination will be a local swimming pool, since it is the summer, and the brigade should be doing “summer-y” activities.

On the way there, the group splits up, with Mikuru riding behind Itsuki…

Haruhi and Nagato both cram onto the back of Kyon’s bicycle (!)

Pool (service) time.

The girls show off their mizugi.

“No diving.”

Kyon and Itsuki display that they too, much like practically all other anime characters, have near-perfectly toned bodies…

…

And so does Haruhi!

Done with the pool, Haruhi takes suggestions for all the traditional summer activities the group has still to do, before the school semester begins anew.

The list is massive.

Nagato (cutely) slurps up a drink.

…

The next morning’s activity is…

Yukata shopping for the girls, since they are traditional attire for females during festivals (the day’s latter activity).

Finally, the girls manage to pick out their yukata.

Haruhi inspects Mikuru…

Mikuru seems to have gotten an appealing one indeed

The brigade visits the festival, while Nagato stares randomly into the distance…

Kyon inquires as to what is drawing Yuki’s attention…

…

Nagato appears to be fond of masks…

Ignoring the mask, the group randomly cavorts around the festival.

Kyon gets a strangely generous gift of food from Haruhi.

Which Kyon gladly eats while Nagato inspects her mask (her purse was too small for a book perhaps?)

Since tonight’s festival has no fireworks display, the brigade set off to make their own.

Kyon somehow attached a pod of fireworks to his bicycle (!)…

Many people in certain countries only wish they get this close to fireworks.

Nagato plays with her snake.

While Haruhi jots off the activity on her checklist…

Bug-hunting is the next day’s assignment.

Seemingly lacking enthusiasm at first, the members randomly wander off on the hunt.

She lets this one go.

Itsuki is awarded the best looking bug-catching frame by the show’s animators.

Mikuru…

After finishing the hunt…

…Haruhi sets the bugs free.

The following day, the brigade engages in another common summer ritual, part-time jobs.

Haruhi wearing a wonderful T-shirt… (maybe she got it from Fuuka?)

Mikuru.

Itsuki.

Nagato.

Kyon.

Exhausted after work.

Haruhi, still wearing that shirt, reveals that she arranged for the costumes to be part of their payment, and that Mikuru is free to wear it to the club’s meetings in lieu of other garb.

They are not amused, but head off to their next planned activity regardless…

This time it’s stargazing.

Unimpressed with just the planet Mars, Haruhi searches for UFOs…

The next day, it’s baseball.

Followed by visiting an actual fire-works show…

Fishing comes up next.

Poor Mikuru has an accident with the bait.

Touring the sights at a graveyard.

Watching a boring movie is yet another summer pastime.

Bowling comes up next.

Karaoke.

Haruhi does a reverse ☆Kira☆!

The schizophrenic schedule has left everyone exhausted, save for Nagato, of course.

Done with everything on the brigade’s list, Haruhi calls it quits, and gives everyone the next day off.

Kyon seems wistful…

But he simply returns home to finish all the schoolwork he was not doing during the brigade’s outings.

Kyon continues his homework…

And then just goes to sleep, thinking about school the next day.

Cue the mysterious figure again, just before the ED…
