The last episode of K-ON! has aired, but crestfallen otaku have been given a fortunate reprieve – the “Next Episode” segment promises a bonus extra episode next week, something sure to come as good news to those many dreadfully bereaved by the ending of the series.
Below is an extensive collection of screenshots with a recap of the finale episode, if you are so inclined:
Obviously, those who would rather not see spoilers should stop here.
Yui and Tsumugi converse about the odd size of Mugi’s eyebrows.
Mugi cheerfully hands one of them over to Yui for inspection. (!)
Yui has a taste…
And wakes up, suffering from a feverish cold.
During Yui’s absence from school, Ui talks to Azusa about her sister’s illness, eventually leading to a flashback…
Sawa-chan-sensei was being going about the business of urgent preparations for the club’s upcoming live performance.
Luckily, Mugi’s cosplay montage from the manga made it intact into the anime:
The girls try Sawa-chan’s cosplay ideas, deciding on these cute mini-yutaka:
Yui apparently liked hers so much that she wore it the rest of the day, leading to…
Her catching a cold.
Feeling sorry for her sister’s absence, a disguised Ui tries to take Yui’s spot in practice, doing surprisingly well until….
She is spotted by Sawa-chan’s probing eyes.
Ui is betrayed by her oppai, which are apparently bigger than her older sister’s.
The real Yui eventually turns up, but is still sick.
She’s told kindly to recuperate at home, and to not worry about the rest of the club until she’s fully recovered.
The next day at school, the girls worry about yet another absence from Yui.
Nodaka appears, turning a blind eye to the group’s missing a member on her roster for the performance coming up.
She relates a story from her and Yui’s youth…
…
Fortunately, Yui had actually gotten better, and was simply being being dressed in her stage outfit by Sawa-chan.
Azusa is a bit upset at Yui for not even bothering to make a phone call.
Yui comforts Azu-nyan…
!
…
Yui seems to think it was worth the slap, as many would likely agree.
The girls get ready for their performance, before Yui realizes her sister had brought her guitar home the day before…
Sawa-chan offers hers…
But Yui is unable to play any guitar but her own.
She rushes home to retrieve hers.
The club has to start their act without Yui…
Having retrieved her guitar, Yui hurriedly rushes back to the school festival.
The Yui-less group performs a new song, ふでペン ~ボールペン~ / Fudepen ~Boorupen~ (Brush ~Ball-point Pen~)
Being the finale, the episode’s concert scenes were substantially more detailed this time than in previous episodes.
Yui keeps on running back, hoping to make it in time to perform…
As she runs, she reminisces about the past year…
Yui finally makes it back to school.
She tearfully apologizes to the rest of the club for having been such a nuisance for the entire school year…
…and has her tie straightened by Mio in response.
With Yui back, the girls play Fuwa Fuwa Time, as sung by Yui (not the OP Cagayake Girls, as some had speculated would be the series’ final song).
Yui’s singing is rather beautifully animated, just as Mio’s was.
The girls finish, apparently satisfied with their performance…
But a heavily sweating Mugi coaxes an encore of the song…
The rest of the band happily obliges…
“The End”!
A “Next Episode Preview” plays.
Bonus Chapter: Winter Day(s)!
While this “final” episode may not fit perfectly into the definition of the word, it was obviously intended as the show’s “true ending”, and the bonus episode looks to be a filler-like one, akin to the bonus episodes sometimes included on the DVD releases of a series.
Many tender otaku hearts will doubtless feel the pangs of melancholy aching as they always do at the end of a favored show, but at least some of those wounds should be tended to by the arrival of more Kyoto Animation anime, in the form of the new Haruhi season that began in earnest with the new “Endless Eight” episode airing coincidentally (?) on the same night.
For more K-ON! finale salve, the huge amount of fanart, MADs from Nico such as these, elaborate cosplay, and the absolute assurance of a huge bevy of doujinshi featuring every single member of the Keion-bu flooding the upcoming Comiket conventions will all be sources of blessed relief.
With the anime proper finished, fans can now be about the business of trying to second guess when (and presumably if) a second season will emerge, whilst perhaps being led on a merry jaunt by marketers…

Yes, Yui... The slap worth every second of hugging Azunyan. ^^
If it was just hugging, she wouldn't have been slapped.
Methinks Sawa-chan's tendencies are rubbing off on her charges...
Mugi.....<333
Screw Haruhi, more seasons of K-On and movie please.
Screw Haruhi & K-On!, More Full Metal Panic . . .
Screw you... More of everything.....
+1. seriously, why cant we just have it all?
As long as it's not another Key adaption, I'm fine with it.
Screw FMP, close KyoAni immediately.
Just watched it.
I think I'm crazy for finding the pickle scene hilarious. XD
A beautiful episode. Can't wait for the extra one... And when that's done... Well, there's still the manga. :D
Whenever the vol. 3 comes out, anyway...
kawaiiie mugi chan!!!!!! T_T
I wish there would be a second season wherein starts after their schooldays much like the anime BECK.. but with much more MOE and with Mio
I can already see 2ch replacing that mic Mio's singing into with 'other things'~
Even if it is just fillers, we need more Yui! Oh and more Mio for Mio fans and more Mugi for Tsumugi fans. As for the rest, more for you.
Mugi + Bunnygirl = ಥ_ಥ Beautiful.
Hmm marimite-like tie straightening.....
Mio looks like a monkey while she's singing into the mic. and so does Yui.
yeah. more more more K-ON! moreeeee
what with mugi "the moon is red"???
i wonder???
Boo! That was the end of K-on? Boo!
End? Already?
I expected more of this series since this anime is the one that makes me learning guitar.
Well, I'm gonna be crying in my sleep from now on I guess. And they better make the figures for this.
@Storm wing
yeah i will wish for that also a second season MUST be made i just love K-on dont let it end like that
*wishes really hard*
I want to read the manga
"But a heavily sweating Mugi coaxes an encore of the song…"
One of my favourite parts of the episode <3 GO MUGI!!
Waiting for Mio and Yui cock sucking filter.
This anime was an okay-okay. Mostly about music, sorta reminded me of Minami-ke (Music ver). No real story line, except for having a future band.
:( I dont really wish to see a K-ON! S2.. I dont really see what more could happebn other than more songs xD (which btw, are always good) Hoepfully they will put at least SOME guys in. Like lucky star, only having one was GOOD ENOUGH.
I'm a fan but...YET! I want LITTLE BUSTERS MORE! :P
If you liked this, then go watch Haruhi or Lucky☆.
That is you already haven't haha
NO MORE KEY ADAPTIONS! Give Little Busters to Toei.
that was a surprisingly satisfying final episode ^^
That's season 2 spoilers!
This is not how it ended in the manga, where is the damn bonfire!?
Yeah, I guess they've changed it because it's the ''finale'' of the anime, so they wanted to have a happy end...
Everything has an end
OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY
No boys in K-on.
A mini-yutaka? Like a mini version of Konata's cousin?
Special OVA: The girls play strip poker while Sawa-sensei gets drunk and molests them all.
I know some people hear maybe don't want to hear such statements, but I won't miss the show. It was fun in the beginning but got quite boring very soon. You just can't compensate a lack of a wider range of gags with only moe. All in all it's just a mediocre anime which profits from being animated by KyoAni but is less entertaining than other slice of life comedies.
i dont know if its mediocre for its purposes. The characters were attractive enough to keep your attention even without a focused plotline. The anime was built on the characters and they are the driving force. Though there are better animes obviously, this one did a great job for it set out to do and i think it excelled at its role as well.
</3 yui...
俺の生きるの理由は後でないよ!!
*sob* *sob*
lol, i thought the part about mugi's eyebrows was a joke by artefact.
the joke is from the inside cover of the mangu.
HAHA! Knew it! All manga-based anime = 2 seasons ea.... AHHAHAHAHA I won my bet!
Was expecting them to make a bonus episode out of the remaining manga chapters for the DVD/Bluray, but not to be aired~ XD
better change the website to 'SPOILERKAKU-COMPLEX!!'
>:(
umm quen wrote a warning that there were gonna be spoilers and if you missed that, i think you would realize about a few pics in. and those didnt spoil much
He did write
"Below is an extensive collection of screenshots with a recap of the finale episode"
I think it's a pretty much given that a lot of spoilers will ensue. You could've just avoided the post before watching the last episode.
FUK YEAH! I'm so glad that there is another episode on i don't care if it doesn't go with the story line, I'm just so HAPPY!:D
and the next moe anime will heal all those wounds.
though hardcore fans will remember the goods time.
ahh yui do not leave me..
my favorite loli-yuri-harem anime ended, want moar, hope to ad ecchi to the description of the anime when the dvds come out
