27% of Men Admit to Rape

South Africa has the disgraceful distinction of being the nation with the highest rates of sexual assault in the world, but a recent survey only serves to compound this: 27% of men asked freely admitted raping women or girls.
Of those who admitted to raping women or girls, 7.7% said they had violated “11 or more” people, and more than half had committed rape more than once.
Additionally, 10% of men questioned said they had been raped by other men.
The anonymous survey, conducted by the nation’s Medical Research Council, used a random sample of 1,738 men, of various races, in two (of nine in total) provinces.

All I can add to what's already been said is that I frequently ask myself why the settlers didn't wipe out the majority of the indigenous population, as the Americans and Aussies did. Most South Africans will tell you that the reason the country's in such a sorry state is because of the poor leadership and ineffective government, but the real cause is the vast population of uneducated savages that were inherited by the newer government and cannot be controlled. There's just no saving people who rape infants to cure aids, and slaughter children and harvest parts of their body for medicinal purposes.

Tis the reason why laws of developed countries( or certain human rights) cannot function in uncivilized, uneducated or poor country. As is often the case, the statistics are used without being put into perspective.
The men surveyed were between 15 and 26 years of age.
The men surveyed are from rural communities. They do not live in the cities.
The survey was only conducted in rural communities in 2 (out of 9) provinces.
Basically if you're female (and sometimes male) this study is telling you to stay the fuck out of mountains and villages in the middle of nowhere, or face the consequences.
Although the women of those villages certainly have it rough, it's a fallacy to claim that a quarter of all men in South Africa have raped at one point in their lives.
The details you cite are not consistent with either ZakZak or the BBC.
The BBC's article isn't consistent with local articles published in SA.
You have to question the validity of all this when the person who conducted the study has this to say:
"The absolute imperative is we have to change the underlying social attitudes that in a way have created a norm that coercing women into sex is on some level acceptable. And it's partly rooted in our incredibly disturbed past and the way that South African men over the centuries have been socialised into forms of masculinity that are predicated on the idea of being strong and tough and the use of force to assert dominance and control over women, as well as other men."
Typical feminazi speak. Neither I nor any of the men I know think like that. I don't know anyone who condones rape. It's a problem in rural communities, not in cities. They believe that forcing themselves on lesbians to "cure" them isn't rape. They believe that a woman dressed in a short skirt is asking for sex. This is a problem exclusive to rural communities and this study has exploited that fact by not using the word "rape" in any of the questions and not having an unbiased sample.

What's that comment based on? South Africa has the highest Gini coefficient in the world. It is almost as if two countries exist within the same borders. If you live in a shack with no income you are in trouble. Otherwise females are just as much at risk of rape than in any other country.
I resent and detest rape but nothing is as obnoxious as a "loaded question" research hypothesis. In a news interview the MRC admitted that the word "RAPE" was never used in the interviews conducted with the respondents in the research.
What is intellectually dishonest is the huge quantum leap that Prof Rachel's conclusions have made by drawing clear racial conclusions about this mini-regional and limited study; in which respondents were "tricked" to believe they were answering everything about their sexuality except RAPE.
We should remind Prof Rachel that scholarship is about truth, honesty and integrity and is not a cultural weapon to demean and debase the humanity of others.
It is undeniable that South Africa is amongst the most dangerous places in the world to be female.
