Storied seiyuu Nana Mizuki recently made history by being the first seiyuu ever to achieve a number one album on Orican’s definitive Japanese charts.
Her album “Ultimate Diamond“, her seventh, made the impressive showing, and she was by all accounts moved by the experience: “It’s like a dream, I have no words to express how I feel.”
The top ranked album marks the first time in Oricon’s 41 year history that a seiyuu has seized the number one spot in their album sales rankings.
The album is on available now.
Live recordings of the songs “Maria & Joker” and “Astrogation”:
Via Sanspo.
Seiyuu appear to making huge inroads in Japan’s music charts of late, although notably their success seems to be being driven by sales on the obsolescent CD format, presumably being bought in large by otaku…

Good stuff, lots of songs we've heard before, but the compilation along with most of the new ones is pretty good.
Hmm, lately though, id consider nana more of a singer than a seiyuu, judging by the amount of roles she has played lately, etc.
I agree that Fate Testarossa is her most notable work in eyes of otaku, much better than some Hinata from a certain something
Definitely the best singing Seiyuu currently, and a cutie too.
Well, her singing technique is one of the best in the chart anyways. Much better than a certain feminine male vocal group.
She's a great singer, I tell ya.
N Sync?
Nana-san in gothloli dress... I think I'm in love.. <3
Been liking her and her roles eversince i was into Sister Princes. Mmm, Aria-chan....
I give her "777%" out of 100% for this album...
Oh.. that's "number 7", too. lol
I see she likes to wag her ass. =]
I see she likes to wag her ass...
I knew it she's the best!
A need to go see her at Animelo!!! damnit!
First time I've heard her sing - very nice voice!
Her singing voice is GREAT!
Nana sings for Nanoha, also she voices Fate...thats WIN
Her range is amazing!
Nana Mizuki ^.^ . she so deserve this achievement. Since most of her songs are actually good ^.^
She deserves it!
D'aaawww, the headline image looks like it could've easily been taken after she heard the news! I'll see if my usual stores have any mp3s of hers to buy.
Ultimate Diamond is an awesome album. Mizuki Nana deserved this achievement!
Probably the best looking seiyuu for me. She has a killer singing voice too. Can't say I like her roles though.
A lot of her songs sound the same-ish (I'm talking about the style of Astrogation). Very Nanohaish.. lots of violins.
Very nice though.. I love her.
Fate's my wiiiiiiiiiiiiife<3
False. Fate's MY waifu.
I liked Astrogation, Maria & Joker was to... non-rhythmic...
I prefer Astrogation too, it's my favourite of all her songs at the moment, the style fits her voice better and has plenty of energy and great lyrics and composition too
exactly, Maria and Joker was kinda crappy... Im starting to think japanese ppl have pretty low standards, seeing how this is the number 1...
She achieved the No.1 spot because of her Album, not the song Maria And Joker alone..
Wow... deeming a song crappy because it's "non-rhythmic". Talk about being primitive. Just wow.
Sorry kids, good music doesn't go "uttz uttz uttz uttz uttz uttz" all the time. Nothing wrong with people not liking it (I'm not particularly fond of it myself), but every person with even the slightest bit of musical knowledge can't possibly deny just how well composed, arranged and produced Maria & Joker is. Oh well, I guess Jazz really isn't made for the stupid masses.
I suppose that it is like Andy Warhol's work in that it is art made by stupid people for the enjoyment of the enlightened intelligentsia. Maria & Joker is truly the Batman Dracula of its day.
she's my favorite singer, still waiting to get my limited edition ultimate diamond
i saw this new on Monday, June 8th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
this blog sure is fast to post news
It's of no surprise,
nana mizuki is extremenly talented and her voice is unique, whoever writes teh music for her songs deserves a lot of credit tho.
Unless of course she writes them herself(talking about the music part).
I agree. Nana Mizuki is a gem (no pun intended) in the seiyuu world. She seems pretty humble yet friendly, has a great seiyuu career in very high profile anime, and a singing voice that puts many J-pop artists to shame. What makes her awesome is the fact that her LIVE singing voice is sometimes BETTER than her studio recorded voice.
Seriously, this girl's got talent. She deserves a lot of the praise she gets. She's that good. And her looks may be gone over time, but her talent as a seiyuu and her unmatched voice will still be there.
No one gives a shit if your pun was intended or not.
Your comment was totally unnecessary. Having a bad day?
yay, Nana-chan ftw ^^
*has a supposedly anime blog that turned into a nana-centric blog 'cause of ultimate diamond*
lol, when I saw the news a couple days ago, I was literally jumping up n' down in my seat :p
I thought Hayashibara Megumi or Sakamoto Maaya at least got #1 on the dailies, it's just Mizuki-san was the first to get a #1 weekly album, or anything for that matter. Not even the K-On! singles managed to get #1 on the weekly charts. Not like Mizuki's Shin Ai did, either.
And where's the love for Prism by Shimoda Asami?
Actual songs' singing sounds better. What technology can do.
I had no idea who she was so I Google'd her. She's actually voiced quite a few of my favorite characters and I never even noticed.
she did Hinata's voice from Naruto, that alone means a lot to many ppl.
She of course did many other notable voices.
FEITO MAMA!!!!
MOKA!
Fate?
Fate Testarossa, yeah. And Hoshina Utau from Shugo Chara. That's about all you need to know.
got nothing to say lol
You just said seven words.
I counted seven too
I don't know about you ppl, but I counted eight words. And I am usually objectively Right.
Lol is dutch for fun, so for years I was wondering why english people used a dutch word... post anon for obvious reasons.
Do you read "lol" as "laughing out loud"? "lol" is read "lol", and is thus one word, not three.
'got no thing to write l o l'.... yeah tts 8 words for u...
count again
or five.
