Edushi: Real SimCity Style Maps for China

Edushi, a Google Maps-like website for China, has been likened to a real version of SimCity, and it is not hard to see why. The site offers gorgeous maps of much of urban China, all integrated with advanced mapping features.
Even for those who are not residents of China, beautiful isometric cityscapes and landmarks make the site well worth visiting.
Most of China’s largest cities can be explored using the program, which works much like Google maps, showing isometric bitmap imagery based on satellite photography, with great detail visible at the closest zoom levels.

Viewers should probably be warned that actual cities may be at variance with the pristine ones depicted in the maps, particularly those cities shrouded in smog…
The program is also useful for giving directions to points on the map which users may wish to visit and showing traffic patterns integrated with Google Maps; naturally, it also provides plenty of practical shopping information in addition to appealing visuals.
Considering the amount of effort which must have gone into illustrating the cities, it seems an ideal use of China’s advantage in manpower; it might be prohibitively expensive anywhere else…

Very awesome, kudos to the programmers who looked at what works, like SimCity codes and implementing it. I wonder if other cities around the world will follow suit. It may not be as realistic as google map but it sure would be fun to explore other cities like that.

But yeah, the one thing that kept coming to mind for me was, "It really isn't anywhere near that clean."
When I was looking at Google Maps comparison photos I noticed the drawing team forewent drawing parking lots or what appears to be ugly blight for much nicer green space and parks.

Google Earth already does it, but I so very definitely prefer those stylized renderings. They look so much more beautiful.
Hell, Guadalajara could totally profit from these. It would make the historic buildings from downtown so much more lively.

Cool stuff-- thanks for posting this, guys.
Having spent a couple of years in Guangzhou I have to say many of the street renditions are rather screwy (take a look at the area around the Garden Hotel, for example-- the road that cuts under Huanshilu looks like a regular road, and the loop around the World Trade Center building [in front of the Friendship Store] across the street is completely absent) but a lot of the buildings are fabulously accurate. --And hell, the actual roads themselves are pretty screwy to begin with, so I'm willing to cut the developers some slack ;)
It'll be fun to see how this improves, and whether they bother to add other cities in greater China like, say, Taipei, Singapore, Vancouver, Fukuoka. . .

Was touring the Forbidden City and Bird's Nest just 3 weeks back. Whoever that did this has done a good job.
Same for Hong Kong's Central district. Like the BOC building and IFC 2 tower.
