North Korean rhetoric has reached a new crescendo of violence, with their latest threats being to wipe out a third of Japan’s population in a stroke if Japan “attacks” the wretched slave nation:
“If Japan wages another war of conquest, their whole land will be subject to our retaliatory strike! Japan’s major cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, Nagoya and Kyoto are home to over a third of Japan’s population, and house most of its industry.
Should we launch our powerful counterattack, Japan will become a scene of carnage!”
The remarks were published in the “Rodong Sinmun”, or Newspaper of the Workers, which is generally taken to be an official mouthpiece of North Korea’s government, and are thought to be in response to strands of the LDP which would like to see Japan possess the ability to deal with threats to its security before they crystallise into actual aggressive action.
These calls have themselves been provoked chiefly by North Korea repeatedly menacing Japan with its growing missile arsenal.

Assuming no one else interfered, countries like the USA would blast North Korea out of existance. Of course if Russia or China interfered, it would be more even. Now if we had a missile shield in America, it would be different, but the stupid politicians just cut it's funding. Perhaps we should change that constitution and get Japan to help us make one?
Missile shield stuff is just a boondoggle. We just don't have the technology required to make anything like that and have it actually work.
It failed most of its tests and those tests it passed, either a) the standards were lowered so that even a kid with a slingshot could pass it, b) they fudged the results.
That's why it needs more funding. The current version sucks but the Western world needs one so people like Korea will fall in line, irregardless of how much it costs.

Considering a certain case... if Seoul and/or Tokyo do suffer a certain nuclear strike, if it somehow occurs... rather more importantly Tokyo... anime and manga will suddenly become rather restricted and various individuals and companies will thus vanish.

I wouldn't exactly call this an empty threat as such, given that yes North Korea isn't exactly a world power, but you have to consider who backs them up. If Americans get themselves involved then that just gives an excuse for the Chinese/ Russians to follow suit with the Koreans. It will be the Korean War all over again (stalemate).
This will more than likely instill the other Chinese allies to move countries with American hatred like Iran to strike against Israel.
So if anything it will be the Americans who will need play cautiously here, they may have the Military might but do they want to essentially start a chain of proxy wars. (MGS4 allusion not intended).
AFAIK, both nations condemned the recent nuclear test, which is quite telling. This is a particularly jarring transition for China, as it had been always hesitant on actively speaking out against N. Korea.
There's no doubt N. Korea's one of the most isolated countries in the globe. I'd be amazed if N. Korea pulls a dick move and Russia or China offers backing in any confrontation with the US or S. Korea.

it would be nearly impossible to wipe out a heavily developed country like Japan, N Korea can easily be erased off the map, the only things preventing the USA and S Korean forces from doing so is China and the crapload of N Korean artillery pointed at Seoul.
