It seems that Angel Beats!, the latest project from Maeda Jun and Key that was reported earlier is not a in fact a game at all, but is actually an anime series.
Reports are surfacing that the similarity between the main character’s looks and those of Haruhi is intentional, and it seems set to contain Haruhi parody elements.
In the latest edition of Dengeki G’s, it has been revealed that the series will be set in the afterlife, and all the characters are already dead. The characters will be involved in a battle (whether it is tournament style is not clear) and angels will feature, all terribly original fare.
Yurippe, the Haruhi-esque lead character, heads a group suspiciously called the “SSS Group”, in order to win this battle.
Key’s other well known member, Na-Ga, is said to have completed the main storyline and also the individual stories for around 30 of the series characters, which rather suggests a lengthy title. A longer or mixed media anime seems quite possible.
As with Maeda’s other stories it will revolve around a single theme, in this case: 人生 (life).
Aniplex is set to be producing the anime, although there are no mentions of which studio will be animating it.
Observers are quick to point out that this story sounds similar to Yu Yu Hakusho or even Bleach, and the SSS Group sounds similar to the “SoS Dan”. Just how far this title will take these “references”, “inspirations” or (hopefully) parodies is not clear.
One thing that fans can be certain of is that Little Busters! will not be animated anytime soon…

If there will be a Tsuruya-like character craving for smoked cheese all the time, this is a must see for me.
I've never ever seen Key creations to be some imitate stuff, so I'll just pass on this news; probably Dengeki's try to get the heat of Haruhi on to them.
Since Key has been more of a trendsetter studio, a sign that 'story' does sell in anime industry and pretty much an architect for the moé as we know of today, I have no fear of their productions~ -If they wanted to put some fighting in their stuff, well, why not?
Hell, there's just 'no way' for something out of Key to be bad...

i have insider info from an animator that says that little buster is actually in works and it's about 50% done and if we're lucky we'll get a really late 2009 release or more reasonable a 2010 spring release.

There was even a Haruhi character in a SwanEye game called Hara☆Hara!! Nakadashi Gakuen Seikatsu (孕ら☆ハラっ！！～中出し学園せ～かつ, http://www.swaneye.com/swaneye/harahara/harahara_index.html). Similar appearance, similar behavior, and even similar name (涼宮 ハルヒ = Suzumiya Haruhi (_Spring_ Day?) vs. 珠洲宮 夏姫 = Suzumiya Natsuki (_Summer_ Princess)).

I think it is just about what you expect from a show. Haruhi promised supernatural and mystery, and it didn't meet some peoples expectations. But when you go and watch K-ON you know that the best you can expect is moemoe schoolgirls fooling around and occassionally playing some music.
So if you watch anime genres you actually like, a complex anime that you can expect more from can become shit more easily than a simple one with no particular happening.

The only reason the haruhi show doesn't supply is that itr's so fucking SHORT. Season 1 barely passes the intros. The novels are still ongoing too.
What I'M waiting for is a completely new adaption of it, after all the novels are published.

I think the reason that K-ON! sucked was because it was a cheap rip off/cross between Haruhi and Lucky Star... so it ended up with nothing but moeblobs... becasue it didn't have Lucky Star's level of mindless (yet funny) antics, and it didn't have Haruhi's level of intelligent (yet insane) antics... so it fused two awesome shows... changed the plot, and got rid of the good points... leaving somewhat passable music, and moeblobs... that's it...
A few observations as to why Haruhi is a short anime:
1. KyoAni doesn't want to screw up the Anime - plot and storywise.
2. The author is still working on the light novels with the utmost care in writing so that the first observation mentioned is as valid as it can be.

Your problem comes in listening to lunatic fanboys talk about K-ON! in that it sounds like you have a problem with the audience more than you have a problem with the show itself. K-ON! itself is a pretty decent show, so is Haruhi, but as Anonymous already stated, they're two different types of shows, regardless of whether or not they're made by the same animation company. They really shouldn't be compared to each other.
