Against all reason Haruhi fans are still hoping for clarification on the matter of whether the rerun currently airing will actually contain new episodes, and with Kadokawa merrily stringing them along, they are left to glean what they can from third party reports.
The latest such report comes from the recent Wakayama TV listings, and seems quite credible as such.
If their schedule is to be believed, the 8th episode of the rerun will be titled “Sasanoha’s Rhapsody”, which does not correspond to any of the episodes in the first series, and so is thought to be a new episode. What it turns out to be will be known when it airs, at 1AM on the 25th.
Astonishingly, stations have apparently been told not to reveal any details of what they are actually broadcasting where Haruhi is concerned, so the listing may be in danger of disappearing thanks to the surreal nature of the Haruhi PR machine, which has been trying to kill any confirmation of a new season since its initial ambiguous announcements of one.
Lingering fans who have not converted to Mio-ism will doubtless be pleased if this turns out to be the new episodes (not) promised.
Others will doubtless be perplexed at just what Kadokawa is trying to acheive with its bizarre burial of an unconfirmed new season in the middle of a rerun…

Apparently the good folks who make Haruhi have not heard about these new people called fans. Supposedly these fans watch anime (or other things) and then "buy" DVDs, t-shirts, tiny plastic figures, and other marketable items. I also hear these "Fans" are very picky and don't like to be played around with. If you ask me Kadokawa needs to proceed as they are doing, these fans sound like a waste of time, much easier to avoid them at all cost. I think these fans will ultimately go the way of the Dodo bird or Big foot.
You say that, yet look at all the merchandise that has come out in the meantime, and people lap it up. Maybe if selling all this stuff had become unprofitable they would have had more incentive to get the second season out earlier, but that didn't happen.

I actually gasped when I first saw this story. After having recently watched the first season again my interest is peaked. I'm very happy right now, to say the least. :)
And I have a feeling that you will be disappointed...I watched Haruhi two years back, and announcements of a second season dated back until then.
Something tells me that Kadokawa is trolling us again. Haruhi is one big thing, K-On is another big thing. We can't really expect KyoAni to work on two "big things" at once.

Why bother? Reruns cost money. Kadokawa aren't going to throw money away airing anime unless they got something to sell to us at the end.
And I suspect this is an intentional Streisand Effect. They are trying to censor any and all leaks concerning season 2, knowing that only make people spread the news around even MORE.

Ratings mean nothing. KyoAni don't get ANY advertising revenue. The entire human race could tune in and it would still not give KyoAni a cent.
The only try and true money earner is new episodes on DVD and blu-ray. The intentional and blatant "censor" of all leaked info on season 2 is just a way to promote the 2nd season without spending any extra cash on promotions.
