Police are hunting a probable sexual predator after he asked two little girls the way to the convenience store.
The man brazenly pulled up to the girls, who were playing in the street, in broad daylight in a silver car, got out and approached the pair, asking “You know the way to the convenience store? I’m looking for a postbox…”
The girls miraculously escaped unharmed from this perilous encounter. His highly suspicious behaviour saw him quickly reported.
The rapist-in-waiting “had the look of a student” and was wearing a grey shirt, a blackish jumper, and had on a pair of spectacles.
Police ask that anyone spotting a man meeting this description dial 110 immediately and summon officers.

Japan may be one of the safest nations on the planet to be a child, and offences involving children being plucked from the streets are indeed all but unheard of, making this diligent protection of the children in the face of an admittedly remote risk all the more impressive.
Recall also the case of the man arrested for kidnapping a girl who he helped to her grandmother’s house, the man hunted for saying “Good morning”, etc. The streets are awash with perverts of all types in this day and age, it seems.

Well if you've ever seen a case that involves children, the authorities automatically take in to consideration what the children say as the truth. So this case isn't surprising, even if the man didn't mean to give off that "I'm-gonna-rape-you" impression that every other stranger seems to give off.

This is large overkill. All that's known is the guy asked a schoolgirl for directions. One question to ask is "did he ask her the question in an overly weird version of Kyoto-ben," or did he ask her in a creepy way. Now I'm having second guesses on wanting to visit, let alone live, in Japan.
And people wonder why we don't help our fellow (wo)man. The chances (at least for men) of getting into some sort of legal who-ha are so damn high it's better to just ignore everyone.

Seriously, the latter one is definitely a good thing.
I can see it now. One day a young girl on the street is in desperate need of help; maybe she has an asthma attack or something. There's plenty of guys around, but none of them dare help for fear of being arrested. The people calling the police for these kind of ridiculous reasons need to be reminded of "The Boy who Cried Wolf", before a real tragedy happens.
Or the nearby WOMEN can try to help the dying girl. And the men can dial 911 (or whatever the Japanese emergency number is). Seriously assuming the girl would die in such an event is rediculous.
Also, I'm a guy, and if I was the ONLY person who could help, I would help her and just think "screw the law".
And if the police came to arrest me, I'd say "she was having problems breathing, so I was trying to get her to a hospital". If they didn't believe me, they could check the girl and see she indeed IS having trouble breathing, and know I was NOT lying. Beside, if the police are that quick to respond, then they maybe could also call in an ambulance quicly when they saw she indeed DID have trouble breathing. So them coming to arrest me as their original plan could actually save the girl's life.
All you Sankaku members are so criticizing hard the Japaneese laws, that you don't really see the benefits of these laws.
