As we saw, K-ON! fans are currently buying up the guitars featured in the show in a perverse display of consumeristic onanism, and naturally the sales opportunity this present is not lost on instrument sellers either.
Music shops nationwide are rubbing their hands with glee at the K-ON! boom (as well as Fender by the sounds of it), and as you can see here, some are being exceedingly direct in their marketing, positively brazen in fact…
Yui on this Edwards guitar: “I recommend this one!”
There are plenty of cheaper instruments than those featured in show marketed thus, for the otaku on a budget. Not even being of the same make, the effectiveness is questionable, and store employees apparently report not much success with the opportunism…

lol japanese businessmen are quick to take advantage of this as expected~
Moe moe Kyun! oh wait... that's not right.
and yet it is cheaper to buy guitars from other countries if you are in japan XD
The world is filled with idiots.
Well, in the view of the crisis consumeristic onanists in Japan will be more interested in finding something edible in several years, cause Japan is in "dead zone", having no resourses, declining GDP and money kept in US obligations.
as expected
damn opportunists...
Yahhhhh trying to market guitars that have like 0 resemblance to the ones shown in the show is very much fail. Don't expect them to sell much from this kind of advertisement...
Anyone willing to guy a guitar sported in K-on! won't be fooled by the music stores fail attempts to sell any old shit off the shelf.
only guitars and bass?? hey,,where's the keyboard!!?? this is conspiracy!!!
I second that! only fools would underrate the keyboard
Yea!
What's up with that?
Ya!!! Support YAMAHA KEYBOARDS!!!!!
What Brand is the Electric Guitar?
Gibson? Epiphone?
Anyway i still think its stupid cus some anime character plays the instrument...
well hopefully when they buy the instrument they would learn to play....
Why waste a good Jazz bass that cost about $800?
...Peace To All Rockers All over the world...
ps: Jimi Hendrix Rawks :D
Fail. An Epiphone _is_ a Gibson, only a copy.
Epiphone is not a Gibson, its a subsidiary company under Gibson.
You can't really call Epiphone a copy of Gibson because of this... You can call the ESP, Ibanez, and even Colt (as seen in the picture) copies.
Yamaha drums, KORG keyboards.
And Zildjian cymbals!
lol my previous school used to have the exact same drumset as the one in K-On.
Mugi-sama's keyboard is actually a Korg TR76 which goes for about 130000Yen
well it not sell well because every otaku idiot already buy one even before the anime launch!
Lawl What's this? :P
What I need is a god damn K-On Drum set.
that drum set is gonna be sticky, I suppose?
I hate Les Paul
SG forever !!!
lol i own an SG nice power to it but Les paul are easier to do Guitar solo's to my opinion...
Or maybe i have short fingers.....
seconded to SG superiority
Buyers should consider, whether or not they will be using the instruments loyally before purchasing...
though most otakus will buy it for display purposes only
Kakifly better think twice if he/she were to make Mio hook up with another guy.
Display purpose -> ???
hur hur...
no, no... no display purposes
its for fapping purpose
well, you know, at least it'll still produce music of some sort....
Agreed. The thought of some guy with no musical ability buying a $700 - $1200 instrument for display only really irks me... if you're buying at least try to learn how to play.
Ah, the power of brainwashing....
sigh.... wish an otaku wud buy a guitar for me.... it'd be a total waste to just put a perfectly good guitar on display...
hahahaha... but how many of them will buying that instrument and play with it rather keep it for display only...
Moar K-ON!
You should also be able to bargain for a really low price.
"Not even being of the same make, the effectiveness is questionable, and store employees apparently report not much success with the opportunism…"
That's rather obvious isn't it?
w00t moar K-ON, show is good but...This?
PIED hehe.....
9,800yen for a 'decorative' guitar ain't too bad for the price, considering figures cost as much...if not more these days XD
May be if people are rich enough, they can get a 1:1 scale doll of Yui or Mio (if they ever get released) and make even better use of those guitars for decorative purpose.
Sir, I think you are missing a zero somewhere. That's almost a grand in US dollars. Considering I can get a no-name for less than $100(without the amp). Yea that's freakin expensive.
Have you even looked at the picture at the top? Look at the top left and the price tag is clearly 9,800yen.
typo?
"...the sales opportunity this present is not lost..."
Anyways, this doesn't surprise me, Japan doing this - but if some store in North America or Europe did this, I would be kind of shocked.
As for effectiveness, I wouldn't be surprised if a few fans went out and bought a guitar because of the show, but I don't think it's worth an entire marketing campaign. Unless its the exact same instruments used in the show... that would draw more attention.
Nevermind, I read the article wrong. Ignore the last sentence.
Otaku bastards. A Gibson LP in their unworthy hands is sacrilege.
That has to be a non Gibson LP. LPs don't cost that cheap.
Look at the headstock. Colt.
Almost forgot. 4,800 yen for a strat? Gotta be a bottom of the barrel brand.
LOL Japanese entrepreneurs XD
They're fast to see an opportunity
On second thought, why not?
Ita-fied ones would prove to sell much better, believe me you opportunist bastards.
those instruments would stink with fap trace after the otakus bought it....
need ita violin! (any?)
they would need a guitar with embedded tenga egg
My drummer is fa**ing on k-on drums
Of course they wont buy a random guitar that's not in the anime! Only buy the real thing Otakus! The real ones! ^_______^
