As we saw, K-ON! fans are currently buying up the guitars featured in the show in a perverse display of consumeristic onanism, and naturally the sales opportunity this present is not lost on instrument sellers either.
Music shops nationwide are rubbing their hands with glee at the K-ON! boom (as well as Fender by the sounds of it), and as you can see here, some are being exceedingly direct in their marketing, positively brazen in fact…
Yui on this Edwards guitar: “I recommend this one!”
There are plenty of cheaper instruments than those featured in show marketed thus, for the otaku on a budget. Not even being of the same make, the effectiveness is questionable, and store employees apparently report not much success with the opportunism…
GIBSONS SUCK BALLS. Seriously their pieces of crap. Most of the japanese “copies” of gibson’s guitars exceed them in playability, value and quality. Then again the Gibsons in Japan are usually made by the japanese branch.
Apart from the japanese stuff, US made Gibsons suck. They dont stay in tune, and they just have appaling quality.
But Yui plays Gibson Les Pauls! not Cheap knock offs!
the less awkward term would be “orgiastic consumerism”.
this is the holy grail of capitalism! the creation of demand out of nothing! f♥♥k you properuseofguitarfags!
If I got one of the instruments from the show I’d definitely play it rather than just put it on display. I’ve actually been considering it, too. I’ve been thinking about learning bass guitar for years (I’ve played tuba and baritone since I was 8), so even though it’d be a cheaper version, and probably right-handed, I’d try and get a bass that looks like Mio’s. ^_^ That is, as long as the K-On boom hasn’t affected American music store prices as well…
yo, dude…
ever heard the word “fapping”?
“a perverse display of consumeristic onanism”
Aaaaand that’s one for the quote archive. Funniest thing I’ve seen today.
