A gallery of the idols, or their rough equivalent, of 100 years prior to the present, whilst Japan was still in the Meiji period and freshly pirating all the technology it could lay its hands on.
Their swimwear is at times surprisingly risqué, although we should of course remember that certain concepts of modesty have swung in and out of fashion in both East and West repeatedly.
What a change having to do Photoshop by hand…

2D fans can see fine art in the form of shunga tentacle raep. Antique photography fans should check out a site devoted to old Japan photos.
this post is still a classic! ^ω^
On a scale of 1 to 10 (and taking into account the two point bump from my yellow fever) I’d place these ladies at a solid 5.
MY EYES! ARGHHHH!
MUST UNSEE THIS!
HELP!
THAT CAMEL TOE!!!
I cant help it – (even) when I imagine the coloring away, the photos seem fake. It not so difficult to have girls of today wear a yesterday’s hairdo and ancient clothes. Removing the colors and adding a sepia/yellow tone would be a blink.
It’s the general sharpness and lack of grain that makes me suspicious.
Some them, if not all, were made in a studio with a wallpaper background – it’s visible. That may be an pro or contra argument regarding a fake from today, I dunno.
