Sharp-eyed observers have spotted some very odd touches in Mio anime K-On! Most notably, the girls seem to be used to a life of true luxury, evident in all the episodes so far…
A Meissen cup and saucer worth $100:
A Wedgwood tea cup and saucer set ($90 each):
Another Wedgwood worth $65, from the “Harlequin Collection”:
A Herend tea cup and saucer worth over $200:
All this remains unidentified:
Quite an opulently furnished club room.
Either the girls have a privileged upbringing (as Tsumugi is said to have), or else the animators took the rather curious decision to base all their crockery on the most expensive Rakuten has to offer. Both seem likely.
Interestingly, they also apparently increased some of the prices of the instruments the girls received from the manga…
Another observer writes pointing out that the mathematics (not pictured) the girls are apparently working on in the third episode is more normally associated with university level maths courses than anything expected of high-schoolers… Perhaps an inappropriate reference?

Well the scenes where in the snow mountain are look like REMEMBER11,
or all of this kind situration have common feeling:small wood shelf, old brown fire place……
The explanation for all of this is Mugi is moe~
Agreed!
That's because Tsumugi brought all the stuff in. Her family is super-rich, or something like that. Both facts were mentioned somewhere in the first two episodes.
And as for the math, I'm equal 13th grade now and I don't even remember when we took quadratic equations because it's far too long... so dunno. But maybe it's because I'm not studying an average school. And the K-on school is said to be sorta special, too, isn't it?
Too bad not one men will. Mugi will marry a woman.
It's explained in the manga that most of the exquisite cutlery are provided by Tsumugi, as well as the endless supply of cakes.
Tsumugi explains that her family often has guests coming everyday (for business-related stuff, no doubt), and would always end up with spare cakes.
If the observer commenting on the math is from outside Japan, then he may not be aware that high school math in most Asian countries DOES contain insane university-level maths.
I speak from personal experience, upon going to UK to study abroad, am delighted that their math courses are so much more simple than the hell that I have to put up with.
Seriously you should start watching this show before writing this garbage. Tsumugi Kotobuki is from a rich family, her farther owns many companies, hence her rich upbringing. Also, that is not Uni Math, that is high school algebra, I was doing that sort of math in 9th grade.
Ha ha ha... been reading sankaku complex for a while, might this be the first time comments get this messed up?
How many more times are people gonna remind Artefact that mugi brought the chinaware, and how many more people are gonna fail to see the comment that says the "univ level math" reference is not pictured here?
Gonna bookmark this page for a while...
LOL, and I posted my said "repeated comments" before coming upon yours.
Nah, not quite. Stuff like this happened a lot of times. Some people just POST what they think of. While some of them realized "Why the hell am I posting this? Everyone knows about this."
My grandmother approves of this display of fine crockery. Seriously, she owns a set of Meissen cups and saucers herself, which she was given at her 25th wedding anniversary.
very funny xD
University level of maths?! ROFL
Atleast it is still High-Shcool first class syllabus in Hungary. (I hope so that Japan holds atleast the same level too)
Wow,they even got a Hermes. They're young, rich and talented than Paris Hilton.
was it really college level math
from what i heard theyre talking about functions and a bit and algebra, they were doing polynomials....was it really college level? probably some mistake but probably a grade 11 math function
they did say in ep 1/2 that tsumugi brings all of the utensils from her house, and so this post is kinda epic phail
Haha Mugi's
woah woah woah
The math they are doing is middle school level here in Georgia.
Middle School = University?
I'm not an expert in any way, but I strongly suspect that the number of readers who failed to realise that the complicated maths mentioned in the article is not a feature of any of its pictures has to have broken some kind of record.
Hahaha... those cups would only worth a sum of $40 in Indonesia.... lol
no kidding
they have Tsugumi so I guess that's why they have those expensive wares lol
Uni Maths??? It's just factorising for god sake! That's why Yui could ace that test!
Artefact must add this at the end of the article:
"and a funny moe blob show slash music band: Priceless"
"There are money things can't buy - like expensive ero dolls or loli figurins you can only buy through Ebay."
"For anything else use MasterCard"
cheesy...
lolerz...
*There are many things money can't buy*
There are very very few things money can't buy.
All right this might work...
X^2 -XY - 6Y^2 + 2X + Y - 1 = 0
(X - 3Y)(X + 2Y) + 2X + Y - 1 = 0
Now, assume both the linear and the non-linear part goes to 0 at the same time, then you will have the following conditions:
1, X - 3Y = 0 and 2X + Y - 1 = 0
2, X + 2Y = 0 and 2X + Y - 1 = 0
For 1, since 2X + Y - 1 = 0 -> Y = 2X - 1
Then X - 3(2X - 1) = 0, X = -1/5
So Y = 2(-1/5) - 1 = -7/5, hence (-1/5 , -7/5) is a solution.
For 2, X + 2(2X - 1) = 0, X = 1/5
Then Y = 2(1/5) - 1 = -3/5, hence (1/5, -3/5) is another pair of solution.
I am doing this in my head so someone please check my work. The best is still to do a numerical approximation as the above method may not gives all the solutions.
Hope this helps.
so many comments here.
The reasons why K-On! popular lies here
Mio - Priceless
There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's 2ch.
I thought they're from high school... where in the anime does it say they're learning university math o.O?
"Another observer writes pointing out that the mathematics (not pictured) the girls are apparently working on in the third episode is more normally associated with university level maths courses than anything expected of high-schoolers… "
Umm...Quadratic Equation is a subject learned before entering University though. High School year 1 and those who are taking Entrance to Japanese University exams will tackle the subject. ( EJU for short, for foreigners)
i dont think u guys learned this in school
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/2023/loltdi.jpg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Implicit_function
Yes, we all did.
nope
If u see next equation, Mugi-chan just factorised the x out. They dont even need to find x or y or know its a graph!
I am too lazy to watch the show but looking at your screenshot and assuming that the unwritten part of the equation is "= 0" what you have is a conic. Since B^2 - 4AC > 0 it's a hyperbola, and because it intersects at (-1, 0), it's degenerate. So you will have two lines defined by the equation that are easy enough to determine. That would just be simple analytic geometry, even if you had to knock out the xy term by rotating the axis. However this is assuming a fair bit of context for the screenshot.
It might be relevant to mention that the curricula in every country differ.
The pink one from the Harlequin collection is doubtful, but all the others look spot-on. Well played, chinaware-loving otaku.
Wealthy girls these days.... >_>
I learnead that math when i entered High Scgool i dn't see the difficulty to think it's college my opinion xD
dang it i wish i could get free rich people desserts with fancy tea :I
lol, and i thought it's just an anime :<
It is, but for some reason people are very interested in it.
didnt mugi already say in ep1 or 2 that the stuff was from her home
Those maths are taught in 8th grade where I come from.
saw something similar in the last episode of Hyakko, the girl was working on some calculus when she was supposed to be in grade achool -.-
That's because the girl is a prodigy. In the manga her character is expanded on a lot more.
And happy are those who manage to marry Mugi...
not only happy, but rich, powerful, and eatting delicious food/loli
Oh my, maybe i made the wrong mistake picking Yui D:
What?....I couldn't hear you across the giant hall and loooooong dinner table in Mugi's dining room- lol.
I love Eri Sawachika, Asuka Langley Soreyu, Saki Katsukabe, and Tsumugi Kotobuki...I love the light haired Princesses!! Plus they give mean head!
"...and eatting delicious food/loli"
Wait whut!? The Kotobuki (Tsugumi's) family are cannibals who eat lolis?
It's not really that late too change your pick though, i used to pick Kagami, and then i found that Misao is the most awesome.. and then again, i ended up with Hiyorin instead.
It should be:
"...and eating delicious CAKE"
Right?
