Some people's religious convictions and, to a lesser extent, convictions to customs are just that strong. Countless wars have been fought for such crap; yes there economical and political motivations but many people have kill and die for religion. Suicide bombers are probably such examples.

I don't know, saying at least would imply that being killed off is better. With that I disagree, nothing is worse than killing the person off.

I wouldn't blame Muslim or anything of the like. My problem is with religion and antiquated forms of thought and idea. It is pathetic.

The fact is, these 'honor killings' only seem to happen in Islam. Islam IS to blame.

Heheh, IMHO Islam is not to blame.
In the faith there's the edicts that's supposedly given by God, and that's the Quran (however it's spelled) and there's a bunch of folks who set other rules(fatwas, whatever. Your regular extremists and terrorists fall in this section).

I'm giving the faith a benefit of the doubt, so instead of blaming the faith I'm only gonna blame it's believers. These "honor killings" only seem to happen in Islam amongst the people, not in the Quran(as far as I know) so blame the people. Muslims are to blame, not Islam.

The reason for this is simple, if I'm not mistaken the Quran states that Muslims cannot kill Jews. Muslims then opted to say "We're not killing them, we're hurting them and leaving them for dead".

In short the problem is not with the religion but with people. Yeah, I'm looking at you >:(

That's to my knowledge, disagree with me if you will, but if so prove me wrong, giving me other examples won't change these facts. And don't bother comparing to other people that have done the same. If you wanna compare stuff, compare to something good(you never compare grades with a guy who fails all his classes, why compare who's better with guys who aren't all that good either?)

Islam is not to blame the power struggle of antiquated ways vrs new ways, one can blame Christianity for its wrong doings but its not to blame as much as the power structure that used it to do the wrong doings in its name.

In parts of Islam like in older parts of Christianity you have harsh communities maintaining their sect via harsh and abusive means such things are hard to unlearn and and stop.

And if you really want to blame a religious org...blame Christianity...they fcked over Islam during the crusades... and set it back 500 years.... its funny if you read history (ZOMG A BOOK!!)the crusaders where the insane fundamentalists that drove the area insane....... :P

Actually, I've read some news blurbs on honour killings being performed by rural area Greeks, and they were apparently Orthodox Greek when it comes to their faith.

And then of course there's India, a while back, where a girl's family tried to completely slaughter the family of the boy with whom she eloped, because he was from a lower caste, and thus it brought shame upon the family.

So, no Islam doesn't seem to have sole custody of this area.

I've been involved with the church, and i can't believe some of the stupid stuff that I've seen there. in truth, the innocence of children has a lot more sense than most adults which are childish and dangerous because they have money to do what they want.
in short, humanity would be MUCH more humane without the human element.
religion fits in the same category as politics, only difference is that religious ppl have an excuse: I'm doing it in the name of *insert deity here*. and they can get away with it. granted, there are some ppl that believe and follow rightly, but that's a small majority, and most ppl that want to follow a religious belief, myself for example, have been turned off or flatly turned away by the ppl that are "false believers" or just plain wannabes. i follow my own beliefs that i have entitles "caffinisim" or the belief that if one day all the coffee in the world disappeared, that the world would be thrown into such chaos that it would almost surely end.
but this is just my humble opinion. and take it for what it's worth.

Humans will always justify their action through whatever means necessary. When there is no religion, they will use political card, race card, etc. It's simple. Very few of us, humans, are idiotic.

Speaking about muslim, i live in indonesia. I find it amazing that the Islam organizations in Indonesia condones extreme islam teaching in public places. Where is moderate islam nowadays? Ones that want to coexist with other religions, and not interfering in the government.

i live in indonesia, and i am indonesian. while it is true that most of us moslem, we are not easily swayed by this extreme teachings. what you see are just minority moslems who call themselves "true muslims", but for us we see them as "extrimist". and they are the one who bark loudest, thus they are the one who gets attention. unfortunately government cannot put a stop for this teachings (for a political reason). but belive me, they dont get many support. they can rally here and there all they want, but they never gain mass big enough to interfere with government.

btw, i dont think there was a case like above here in indonesia. people here are more open minded about what to wear.

Religion is what people make it, if ridiculous amounts of muslims go around committing "honor killings" then that might as well be part of the religious doctrine (for whatever sect that does that).

You can't just say it isn't the religion's fault because their book doesn't say to murder. People make the religion, not the book.
