Kadokawa Issues Haruhi Gag Order

haruhi-gag-order.jpg

Just when fans thought they had secured some reliable evidence of the existence of the Haruhi second season, Kadokawa has moved to scotch them.

Now we hear that lynchpin broadcaster Saitama TV is issuing a categorical refusal to comment on the series, after only days ago having confirmed with other broadcasters that the series would have 28 episodes.

The broadcaster will now only answer with the request to instead see the official Haruhi homepage. The immediate suspicion is that Kadokawa has moved to gag broadcasters from revealing any details regarding the anime.

You can see the 2ch exchange here.

Although the suggestion that new and old episodes will be mixed together or broadcast back-to-back is not directly challenged by this development, it does rather suggest that the broadcasters, in providing useful information to viewers, contravened Kadokawa’s policy of issuing only ambiguous or misleading information.

Currently the major possibility appears to be that Kadokawa was hoping to keep all disinformation control centred on its official channels.

We might speculate that some contrived marketing gimmick relying on generating word of mouth publicity is planned, or that an unusual or unannounced entry into the new episodes is due.

Considering how the marketing has been handled so far, anything seems possible. Dark whispers of a simple re-repeat in the alternative airing order following the first 14 episodes have even been heard…

Kadokawa’s marketing approach to the Haruhi appears to be to sow as much confusion and distrust as possible whilst delivering as little as possible. Few productions have ever been marketed with so little respect for those attempting to follow them…

    Yeah.

Well, it is Kadokawa's attempt to keep the second series as a "surprise", which of course, has already failed, the surprise.. and Kadokawa since long ago.

If they're actually trying to keep the broadcasting of the second series a secret, fine. If they're planning on releasing some episodes as half episodes to air for twice the length, and that's what they're hiding, people will be real angry.

    Gonna spoil a bit here.

Some of the bits from the novels that are supposedly in the second season deal with an alternate reality where Haruhi doesn't exist. The weird marketing may just be a viral campaign centered on that.

    [!] spoiler ahead [!]

I believe you were referring to book 4. Haruhi did exist in that alternate reality, just that she wasn't in the same school as Kyon.

No, he's a genius. After all,... would there be any guy still talking about haruhi, if it wasn't for the trolling?

For some odd reason lots of people liked the first season and didn't realize how hard it in fact sucked. So they have to divert from that fact as good as possible, thus the trolling.

It didn't suck. It isn't what it's hyped up to be, but it was nowhere near "suck".

I've introduced the series to people who have barely heard of most anime, and they loved it.

Why would they if it sucked?

You might as well equate it to Naruto then!

Anyway, I agree with Kaisos. lol.

Everything Kadokawa's marketing team does just pisses me off more and more. I really hope they all get fired for their terrible marketing - either that, or everyone misses the new season's broadcast, believing it to be fake, and therefore everyone d/l's the eps instead of watching it on TV, causing Kadokawa to lose money. It really feels like Kadokawa is just trying to cover up it's past marketing mistakes with more marketing mistakes, so that in the end they can just claim "it was so that we could surprise you all :D"

    Fags.

I honestly see it as a strange meta-anime quantum physics experiment. Call it Schroedinger's Haruhi. It simultaneously is a second season and is not a second season, and the moment one confirms or denies its status, it loses this dual existence state. Hence the odd behavior by the PR team.

hmm I think when it comes to art, berserks's the winner..

I dunno, Hellsing has its themes and motifs that are uncommon to most anime genres..and I liked the part that the creator successfully merged Bram Stoker's Dracula, World History, and contemporary events to Hellsing. The main characer, Alucard is way too cool.

Read the manga first, watch the anime then OVA afterwards. The anime series has a different story while the OVA (still unfinished) remained faithful to the manga, but the anime has more character development that's why I recommended to watch that first. Hope you'll like it. Enjoy!
