In a novel approach to sperm provision, the Tokyo Sperm Bank operates a service exclusively using sperm delivered “through sex”, proclaiming a 74% conception success rate.
The organisation was apparently formed by a lady whose marriage proved barren despite numerous attempts to rectify matters with a conventional sperm bank. Eventually they conceived.
This still resulted in a divorce “due to a lack of affection”, but the lady was determined to have more children anyway (we might wonder about her account of the divorce), after taking custody of the child. She was apparently unhappy at its lack of siblings, but did not want the inconvenience of a male partner.
She hatched upon the idea of acquiring semen in a less “inorganic” manner, and so “After receiving the understanding of an male acquaintance, I successfully became pregnant after having sex a number of times.”
She realised no emotional attachment with the “donor”, but says “I realised it’s best after all to conceive through the animal instincts of sex.”
After all this she started an organisation to provide sperm donations through sex, with a suitable fee of course.
The cost for receiving sperm is ¥30,000, with ¥20,000 going to the donor. Repeat attempts attract a discount. The recipient must pay hotel fees.
Regular donors are checked every three months for signs of STDs, as well as before and after they contribute, suggesting a reliable supply indeed.
Whether the operation is genuine is a difficult matter to ascertain, but the evidence does seem to suggest a “genuine” organisation (although whether the motives are genuine is another matter).
Interestingly, the website, which appears to have operated for a number of years now, actually published the supposed details of the babies born from their procedures, including their weight.
Most tellingly, the website occupies the top position in Google for the phrase “sperm bank” (精子バンク), even beating Wikipedia for the exact same phrase. Anyone operating in the field of SEO will know how difficult it can be to displace Wikipedia from a top position for a term with any currency.
Oddly enough, the site has just announced that, “due to various circumstances”, it will be suspending homepage activity. For the time being you can still see some of the pages, like so.
We might instantly think this to have been a sign of chicanery, but the site was in operation nearly six months prior, where it was linked from a source debunking the Chinese sperm collector hoax we heard of previously.
Perhaps all that is missing is a service that provides prospective fathers with womb donors (perhaps on an hourly basis)…
