Notorious producer of barely working interactive yandere ero-anime Overflow has announced it will be delaying the release of its flagship title by two months, for the second time.
Previously the release was delayed from February to April, but it seems their nightmarish coding incompetence necessitated yet another delay.
Just how hard is it to string together a series of videos? Too difficult for Overflow, it would appear. Even their compatibility checker has had eleven revisions.
Most eroge producers may be almost devoid of technical talent or ability to innovate, but even so this is only matched by the recent debacle of Mahou Shoujo Ai’s pictureless release…
Strangely, they did feel able to put together this jolly April 1st video:
Hmm, strange, while i barely played the first one (School days, around 10 -15 times), it never gave me any problems, i even installed and played it with english regional settings.
To be fair, the way that 0verflow does their games is hardly as simple as just a bunch of videos stringed together.
I don't really think their method is a good way to go about it though, but basically their programming has to deal with overlaying a small image over the larger background still, and "animating" that specific part to make it look animated. It's why their games always have a really stiff feel to it. The only things with particularly real animation are the sex scenes, and a couple of other key dramatic scenes, as far as I know.
But yeah, that's why you had moving mouths floating several miles away from where a person's mouth actually is (or at least, that's what I had, when playing Summer Days).
Overall, it's just an unnecessarily complicated system (syncing it with the dialogue too), so that's probably a big part of the bugs.
Of course, that isn't an excuse at all for releasing a beta copy of the game full of bugs because you accidentally used that instead of the master copy of the game... >_>
To be honest, I would rather have them delaying the release day than putting out a buggy products. Not exactly happy at the situation but I really don't want to download another huge ass patch to be able to play the freaking game.
PS: They really should start coming up with new ideas, the School Days franchise is getting repetitive...
Ok, maybe I should have rephrased better. It's not that I don't like the School Days franchise. But I really think 0verflow should look into something else, surprise me with a release that is not "(Insert random word) Days". Alicesoft is a successful eroge company because they really think outside the box and they don't confine themselves with one idea. Ever since School Days became such a smash hit, 0verflow just kept cashing in with the franchise without coming up with new games. Unfortunately I think their success is actually smothering their creativity. While I laud their business strategy(well, making money is a good thing, can't argue with that), I really hoping they take more liberty in product development and bring us some more exciting games in the future.
Thank you! Softhouse Chara happens to be one of my favorite eroge companies(along with Eushully and Alicesoft, sometimes Giga too). Getting my hands full with BALDR SKY Dive1 at the moment. But I will be sure to check out Daisounan as well.
I don't care what people say about it being difficult to string together videos, it no excuse for Overflow to delay it Another two mouths. It makes me wonder if this game is really worth the wait at all?
First!
Yea, first bitches!!
Now bash me... >:)
BASH!!! (lol)
*anon phone ringing*

Dammit I want this game. ><
So long as this release doesn't equate to another Summer Days.....
Needs moar douchebag protagonists.
Plus sharp knife, duffle bag, and a nice boat to complete the set.
need moar nitwits bawing over douchebag protagonists. then we're complete.
Nice Boat
anime @ game??
needs to be H.
Hmm, strange, while i barely played the first one (School days, around 10 -15 times), it never gave me any problems, i even installed and played it with english regional settings.
the one that fail is summer days. you need to DL the 3,2 GB (yes, it's GIGABYTES. you don't read wrong) to be able to play the game.
Hmmm.. what's wrong with 3.2 GB?? I remember School Days being 7-8 GB... o.O
the 3,2 GB is the patch only. THAT'S what's wrong.
*facepalm*
Never mind.. you were referring to the patch... sowwy...
At least there is a patch. Not like Chaos;Head which just gratuitously crashes and yet they don't seem to care.
did chaos;head really crashes? cause i'm planning to get one...
Actually the only crashes I experienced were with the english patch. Just don't save in chapter seven expecting to be able to load it.
"Just how hard is it to string together a series of videos?"
Having spent the past couple of weeks adding improved video playback support to my visual novel engine, I have to say... it's harder than you'd think.
But not as hard as just about any other kind of game.
To be fair, the way that 0verflow does their games is hardly as simple as just a bunch of videos stringed together.

Yea artefact is clearly ignorant as to the 0verlow games. They are *not* strung together videos. Its real time on D3D 9 hardware.
If you are going to knock any eroge company for innovation, its certainly not 0verflow.
Go back to posting the pics you find on futabachannel and retranslating blogs you weaboo.
WTF? Did you just call Artefact a weeaboo?
Ha!
GTFO this site!
This.
The first time I have been called such, which rather shows the ignorance of the unfortunate Overflow fan.
its actually 0verflow, not Overflow
Can anyone explain what is happening in the video plz?
or where can i find the sub?
and who is dubbing the trailer?

If they changed it, it would just be some other eroge. If I wanted that... I would just go play some other eroge.
Why would every franchise need to do everything? That is why there are different franchises.

I recommend Softhouse Chara to you if you want high playability. Their recent(as in last week) game was Daisounan

Magical Snipe ftw.

Korewa.....
What? Or Chibi Miku-san expression said the rest of your sentence?
That's Chibi Kagami Miku!
yo man, they need to get some better programmers and competent animators that can work togenther so they can fail less in their games.
AS IF ANYONE CARED!
True.
Softhouse Chara still arround? Jesus, I remember playing one of thier games in a 486 running japanese DOS 6.2. They must be ancient
Someone needs to translate the video.
As for the delay, better to have the game delayed to fix the problems than to release it early with tons of bugs & glitches.
Sigh... Expected this to happen........
LOL WTF?@Kotonohasama Days
Was it UNICEF crying in background? Heh, guess I'm imagining things...
Meh, 2 days delay or (more than) 2G gigabytes patch.. Which one is better?
lets just hope we don't have both.
btw, it's 2 months delay, not 2 days.
