North Korean Sex Slaves Sell for $450

slave-auction01.jpg

A burgeoning sex trade in North Korean women has surfaced along the North Korean – Chinese border over the past decade.

So routine has the practice become that Chinese farmers who cannot find wives simply place orders with one of several human trafficking groups. Once the farmer specifies the desired physical appearance and age, traffickers look to fulfill the order.

North Korean women, who are eager to flee their politically oppressive and highly impoverished country, are easily convinced to undertake the risky border crossing by the traffickers who target them.

Often relatively urbane and highly educated, the women are lured by the promises of lucrative jobs in the growing Chinese economy.

Once across the border, the women are usually first gathered in the border city of Yanji and then sent to the northern city of Jilin. From there, the women are dispatched to rural villages via “brokers” to serve as the “wife” of the Chinese farmer who ordered them.

A source familiar with the practice said that “after arriving at the Chinese farmer’s house, the North Korean woman realizes that she is the victim of human trafficking, but won’t dare to escape for fear of being caught in a remote and isolated rural village where the language is different.”

The risk of deportation to North Korea, where they face probable execution, doubtless also is a factor.

The going price for a North Korean woman ranges from $446 to $1,488 according Chinese men who had purchased North Korean women, North Korean escapees and officials of the Chinese government.

In recent years, the sex trade has not just been limited to along the North Korean border, but has expanded to the inner provinces of Hebei, Anhui and Jiangsu

Via Korea Times.

The Chinese government, which is aware of the practice, has done little to stem the flow of illicitly imported humans.

Korean women who have protested their predicament have found themselves either imprisoned or worse still, deported back to their homeland. That said, plenty of Chinese women find themselves in a similar situation

That's pretty awful. I hate how criminal groups corrupt the desire to build a better life for yourself and turn it into a profit for themselves. What a rotten world.

I feel very little pity for stupid people who put themselves in a bad situation and then complain. It is like getting a credit card because someone says you will never have to pay it back and then being surprised when a cop shows up to arrest you for using a cloned card and crying about what someone "promised" you. No such thing as a free lunch, always look for the hook.

You're a fool mate , you should realize when people are starving and know they have no future they are willing to take risks . Its not like they are doing it for profit and pure greed . Likely girls are promised to be given some job where they would work to pay off their debt .

I agree with Al. I'm actually researching human trafficking in China and many of these North Korean women have to make a choice between torture, starvation, and death versus a life of slavery in China. While in China, many are at the mercy of their husbands/masters who often force them to work, abuse, and/or rape them. On top of it their children aren't given the same rights as Chinese children. Needless to say if they get caught their deported back to North Korea where they are almost always tortured and/or executed for being traitors. These women aren't stupid, and it's hardly a choice.

On the other hand, maybe we could take advantage of this. I did the math, and even if it comes out to $1,000 a pop, we could get all of North Korea's women for a mere $14 billion! To think we wasted a trillion to hand to bankers! $14 billion to end the last truly unstable regime (they won't even listen to china) ? And I'm not suggesting buying them for any bad purposes, I just mean liberate them (of course then we get an extra 14 mil women in the market).

And with the women gone, North Korea would collapse! One of the world's biggest problems, solved for $14 billion dollars thanks to criminals. Heck in reality you only have to take the younger generations, maybe 3 or 4 mil women, to cause a collapse. That'd be a mere $3 billion. Heck maybe you could get a bulk discount, or a good intentions discount (since we'd actually be freeing them).

But of course no one sees the opportunities criminals provide in undermining government, and sometimes the governments are far worse than the criminal organizations (like in North Korea's case). Seriously, only 2 or 3 billion to help them all escape that hellhole?

I don't cuss often, but WTF.

No, no,.. you got it all wrong. The more you get, the more those woman can communicate with each other, resulting in feeling secure and then trying to flee. Order only one, and if necessary later another one.

Just order a really young one. The advantage in that was made obvious in a former comment on lolis.

No no no, you're doing it wrong, you need a confederate in the group to make them keep doubting the security in fleeing, that's how you stop them from running...then you can have over 1000 of them without fear of fleeing...it'll be like 1000 nights in that one arabian tale

no no no, you must order one everyday. Use em like condoms, one a night and set em wild into the vast wilderness. That way after a few years, youll have about a 1000 women who see you as their savior and may return some favours ;p. Also thats a 1000 different va jays jays per day days

I like how you guys are blaming the Chinese for this problem, and not the fact that the traffickers are N.Korean, and the reason the women would even be able to be tricked is because of North Korean government oppression. Sure, it's the Chinese scum who's buying them, but it's not like they made it available, now is it?

It's funny how most comments - and even the article itself - seem geared towards an anti-Chinese sentiment. C'mon, China might not be the best place in the world, but your attitudes seem to tilt to a fanboyish extreme.

It's not like shit doesn't happen elsewhere in the world.

It's not anti-Chinese sentiment. These articles are just shedding light on the repulsive government of mainland China and it's tendencies to do nothing to curb human trafficing and other crap. My parents are from the Canton area. I find nothing that smears Chinese folks as a whole. Everyone knows that there are alot of good Chinese people as well as those that need an AK47 shoved up their rear.

I feel like Burma is giving North Korea a run for its money in the shitty country department. As for the anti-Chinese sentiment comments, I agree that this isn't anti-Chinese at all. It is merely shedding light on the fact that China is one of the biggest trafficking countries in the world and one fo the few that trafficks both domestically and abroad and is also an origin and destination country. Sure every other country in the world trafficks too, even the good old United States of America. This article isn't saying that the rest of the world doesn't It's just pointing out one of the many sick things going on in our world in a country that continues to violate human rights and no one's doing a damn thing about it.

Now...don't blame this one on China. It is clearly North Korea's fault that its own citizen would want to flee the country. And there's not mentioning of the traffickers being North Koreans or Chinese. So stop blaming China for everything just because majority of the article make them looks bad.

If those women are willing to take the chance and escaping North Korean and make a run for China...who is whose? You do the maths.

Hey.. Ranma pulled it off, too. Couldn't be that hard. Besides, you can always try stealing a boat.

    >and get caught and deported back to North Korea to be >executed. Smart move!

As if it where that smart to run away in the first place. But if one is to do it anyway, they might as well aim for japan. It's like, when you fail anyway, you can fail while doing something big.

    So here are your choices:

    Stay in fucking cholera
Run towards china ---> be a slave
swim towards japan --> die trying.

If it is that hard to stay in cholera, I might as well die in the attempt to swim towards japan.
