More Japanese Women Prefer Being Alone

fate-saber-twosome.jpg

A recent report brings to light a new trend among single Japanese women: they are increasingly forgoing companionship to enjoy a night out alone.

“I rented a hotel suite and spent the night there all by myself, drinking wine in a bubble bath and reading a magazine,” said a 30-year-old woman. “Very elegant, don’t you think?”

One woman remarked how much more enjoyable it was to go into a French restaurant by herself, being able to slowly savor the taste of the food without the need to make small talk.

Yet another woman remarked that she had become quite “good at being alone” as though it was an acquired skill recently mastered.

Businesses have noticed the trend. Over the past two or three years, a growing number of women have been coming in alone to restaurants, movie theaters and karaoke studios.

One staffer at a Shibuya karaoke box commented that solitary women now “make up 30% of our business.”

Ueno Chizuko, Tokyo University professor and an author of a book on the social phenomenon of solitary women, believes that there are two reasons responsible for the trend.

Ueno states that Japanese women are more confident of their social skills and are less afraid to venture into places without a companion. Further, the professor notes that a woman is expected to “adjust her behavior to the mood of her companion,” an expectation that can cause a significant stress.

One 25-year-old office worker summed up the issue in a nutshell. “I have a boyfriend, but to be honest, it’s more fun without him.”

Via Japan Today.

The trend of solitary women will alarm Japanese social commentators who have long decried Japan’s lack of population growth.

Additionally, the problematic expectation of Japanese women towards their partner’s income potential and the fact that Japanese women have become more self reliant for their own sexual gratification have become increasingly common deterrents to marriage.

Male commentators have been quick to point out that the expectations of many Japanese women seem increasingly unrealistic and out of touch with what is attainable to them; although some may prefer being single, surveys still reveal the majority harbor ambitions of marriage and children.

Thus it is seen as problematic to hear, as in a recent famous example, spinsters in their forties make statements like “I’m so desperate, I’d just settle for a man who makes over ¥10 million ($100,000), as long as he can communicate.”

Is it possible that this course of action was spurred by centuries of female oppression? Although there are certainly other factors, I think its a significant portion of the reason.

The problem with this is that solo women- especially Japanese women- are NOT customers you want. They eat whatever they ordered and then sit and do fuck-all for an hour or more, like read a book or type emails or do their taxes. In comparison to men who get in, eat, and leave, making room for the next customer.

tldr;; solo women are parasites to shop owners.

Isn't this a good reason to encourage more of those singles to rent hotel rooms? They get a nice atmosphere and can eat whatever fancy meals the room service brings them.

OK... I can understand going to the Restaurant or the Cinema by yourself, but Karaoke?
I don't know, the prospect of singing by yourself just seems unbearably Lonely somehow, and that's coming from a Male perspective.
Considering the fact that women feel a greater need for socialization than men, and this Picture allofasudden just seems incredibly Sabishii :(

T'was about time for you bitches, to learn how it feel to spend money from your own pocket!!!
But again, the bitches prefer to spend their moneys only on them selves, no way they're gonna spend one dime in some guy's happiness. Well, screw them!! We all know a guy can survive without 3D females, damn right he can! hahaha!! But I wonder if females can survive without men and not feel miserably lonely??..
How we do it? We're all a bunch of horny bastards, period. That's the secret of our happiness. We can fap to a fuckin 2D poster for a hundred years, and be happy, so you can imagine the amount of FAPPINESS inside any men. So if the bitches don't want some of that, go get drowned in a bathtub while drinking wine.
Meanwhile I'll be fappin till death and scoring ANY chick available, for men when it's about FAPPINESS/FUCKINESS money doesn't matter, learn something bitches.

Expectations from women in Japan (or in Asia in general) are a bit different than in western societies; yes even now, so it's no wonder they rather spend time by themselves.

Talking from a society were women can't even fart in peace, I also rather spend time by myself than playing a stereotype for some pretentious sexist bastard.

an inferiority complex is usually something you force upon yourself, rather than something that society puts over you. or, more accurately, something you don't force yourself enough not to have.
in this day and age, there are numerous reasons why a male would have inferiority complexes towards females, and this doesn't look like it will improve any time soon. in the end, it becomes a showstopper for both sexes.

my personal solution to this is actually a simple, but maybe very much unrealistic one: men and women should both finally give up their traditional role models and make an effort to approach the "other" world. it's a complicated process, that must start from early life on, and much of the responsibility lies in mothers, fathers, siblings, teachers, politicians, religious leaders, actually, pretty much any one with an influence.
if gender borders can be broken down, there is no reason to develop any inferiority complex because of it. or experience disadvantages.

btw, i read the profile on your blog. seems like your inferiority complex was no reason to keep you from becoming a major go-getter at such a loli (sic!) age. what are you studying at mit?
