A woman who had the gumption to tell another passenger on her train that his mobile phone gaming was a nuisance was viciously beaten for her trouble, leaving her with a broken jaw, we hear.
The man (21) was apparently engrossed in a game on his mobile one morning on his commute to work, when the lady in front of him told him “You’re being a nuisance!”
He took exception to this, told her to “Shut the hell up!”, and then proceeded to punch her repeatedly in the face, an attack which left her with a broken jaw.
He was arrested immediately after.
The man says of his crime “When I was warned like that, it just went straight to my head.”
The lady victim was severely injured, but is expected to make a complete recovery in a month.
It is not clear if his gaming was proving noisy, but it seems unlikely he would have been warned for silent gaming. We also do not hear which game it was which proved good enough to provoke such a violent outburst.

Japanese trains generally observe a strict informal ban on using mobile phones in an audible manner, though it is otherwise common to see passengers messaging or using handhelds. It is exceptional for other passengers to do anything but studiously ignore those flouting this ban.
Whilst it in no way excuses his actions, the choice of language on the lady’s part probably contributed, as it was an extremely brusque “You’re a nuisance!”, as opposed to a typically Japanese polite phrasing, such as “I beg your pardon, would you be kind enough to refrain from doing that, as it is inconveniencing other passengers?”
Clearly, it never hurts to be polite to strangers, but the converse can be quite painful.

Then, as he was waked up, he tought by the harsh language, that it must be some dick and without furhter thinking beat the hell out of the bitch. Except maybe in response to direct threats to yourself or others, I would be reluctant to accept battering someone for saying something. The man's actions are antisocial and I hope they find a cage to put him in and that his victim can obtain remuneration.
In determining that I don't even need to consider the gender of his victim or what he was doing. If those data suddenly engender a negative impression of the victim, then I would reflect on whether I had been dropped on my head one too many times.
The circumstances may be interesting for explaining why the events occurred: the differences in expected gender roles might influence the degree of offense taken and the willingness to act, while the excessive attention paid to the game might have depleted the aggressor's capacity for self-restraint. However those are things I would leave to experts, and don't really change the desire to not be accosted while using public transportation for giving a passenger a case of butt-hurt.
