As the global recession continues to wreak havoc with national economies, an enterprising Romanian woman has offered up a unique solution for her country’s economic woes.
Ionia Cioanca (71) has been creating hand-made clothes and accessories from human hair since the age of 16. Now well accomplished in the creation of human hair products, Cioanca hopes that her techniques can help revitalize the local economy.
Using techniques for processing wool, Cioanca carefully harvests her own hair to make blouses, coats, hats, gloves and even handbags.
The grandmother turned would-be entrepreneur believes that her profession is a sacred one citing the example of Mary Magdalene wiping the feet of Jesus with her hair.
Cioanca has pressed the mayor of her town to help her register her accomplishments with the Guinness World Book of Records. Not only does she hope that the publicity will prove a boon to the local economy, but also encourage a cottage industry based on human hair products.

As the Romanian economy has worsened, more of its citizens have seemingly turned to the selling of goods that were once considered the realm of taboo…

Awesome I would like to order mine in pubes.
Typo? You wrote her name wrong in the second paragraph, Jin. It's Ioana, not Ionia. :) Other than that can't say it's more shocking than the girls who are selling their virginity. Romanians have always been able to put their resources to good use. We're all farmers on the inside. XD
me want a red one!
that hat looks.... hairy... @____@
it must be really itchy
Remeber Borat when he said in Kazakhstan one of their products t was that they export was pubic hair, it was used to clean pots and pans...LMAO
Ahhh yes. A hair sweater would go quite nicely with my jacket of human skin.
I couldn't ever see myself wearing something like that, unless it was made out of loli hair.
Even still, I have long hair, and it can be itchy at times, I can't even imagine how itchy that would be to wear.
Are you from a-c? I can't believe they put this on sankaku... ">_>
Sorry, should have said good post! Waiting for the next one!
I'd like a blond sweater...
Those clothes look like it emits gamma radiation.
Actually...we're doing pretty well here in Romania. Hell...gas prices have gone down, and nothing really had a price increase, except maybe like 2%. And we don't have that many jobless people, at least not like USA.
what's with the sudden flood of Romania-related articles?
Artefact probably found out that weird shit happens here all the time.
I asked Jin the same thing. It's just coincidence.
yeah, but none of this weird shit is moe
And weird shit that IS moe makes the shit better?
Are you from a-c? I can't believe they put this on sankaku... ">_>
I hope all that hair came from her head...
Guess it's too late to scroll down I_I
Can't unsee! @.@
...I *so* did not need that image in my head.
I think I saw the same thing on Ripley's once
Same here.
Though I think the one on Ripley's was a barber who made bras out of human hair.... =P
I remember that, but that was so long ago...
Perhaps if they make it out of the hair of young ladies it will prove a success...
"Perhaps if they make it out of the hair of *Lolis* it will prove a success..."
Fixed.
Perhaps if they make it out of the PUBIC hair of young ladies it will prove a success…
hmmm dead fish scented face masks
Especially considering the awesomely straight black hair so many Japanese seem to bemoan being blessed with.
yes, straight black hair for smoother and silkier results.
timotei...timotei...timoteeeii~~
I agree to that...
and also, moe marketing would be a success (as always)

we're getting more Romanian news today, huh?
I was about to say.
My friend is Romanian, and I sent him the incest and virgin ebay articles. More weird Romanian news!
Numa Numa?
What did you expect from vampires...
I wonder how comfortable it is.
As comfortable as wearing hair on your head.
Or as comfortable as going to the barber and let all the hair fall down your t-shirt.
apparently, this is not the first time such a thing has been done. In fact, somewhere in the world, it's considered "high fashion" too!

There was also the case of the German submariners, assuming this was not war propaganda.
ah yes. google result:

It seems even the Germans back in the day were the pioneers of such avant-garde fashion.
that's odd. i guess my post got bahleeted since i linked to two places.
anywho, here's the source: http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/1,7340,L-3680205,00.html
...Thus proving the Germans were once again at one point in time the pinnacle of "avant-garde" fashion.
It's been done here in the UK, but making jumpers out of the hair of your late dogs.
I'm sure all that human hair would fetch more money as hair extensions, anyway.
No kidding. I saw ~1 metre long extensions for like 300 bucks the other day...
I saw something on tv not long ago about making clothes and things from cat fur... I find using human hair far more disgusting though
I don't see anything disgusting about it. If you have a natural resource being continuously extruded from your own or your animal's body, why not put it to good use? Isn't that one of the basic principles of farming?

Relevant UK article.
so
itchy
Cool.....
Damn, I'd love to get a human-hair coat for myself. Does the article mention anything about its qualities of absorbing/retaining/repelling water?
Also, is it hand-wash only? Inquiring minds want to know!
According to the source article, they recommend shampooing the clothes.
The mind boggles as to where the dandruff would come from. Spontaneous generation?
TIMOTE! TIMOTE! TIMOTE!
Head n Shoulders or Pantene?
Heaven forbid you'd have to use Head n Shoulders...
