More sordid details are emerging about the suicide of Hana Yori Dango actress Jang Ja-yeon. Along with notes which detailed the sexual encounters she was forced into, being beaten if she failed to perform, police have uncovered what appears to be a full service brothel at the offices of her management agency.
The agency offices consist of three levels. Only the middle floor was apparently used as office space. The ground floor was used as a wine bar, while the top floor contained an elaborate bedroom, a shower and karaoke facilities.
The building was purchased by the managing director of the agency in 2005; he has yet to return to Korea since recently leaving the country on an unscheduled business trip to Japan.
Police speculate that it was on the top floor that the late Jang Ja-yeon was forced to pour drinks, sing and perform sexually for select entertainment VIPs and politicians.
Police are continuing their investigation. The names detailed by the late actress have yet to be made public, and no details have emerged on whether other actresses were forced into similar sexual servitude.
Via Chosun.
This affair has made the Korean public turn a cynical eye towards its entertainment industry. While there will be much talk of reform, many suspect real long-term change will not occur…

Sup unrelated comment.
This is just cruel; a harsh reality for celebrities in Asia.
I think original comment has something to do with the second to the last word of the first line of the first paragraph of the article.
I need me to open up a talent agency in a 3 floor building...
Fuckers abusive mother fuckers..
If I had a private army Id have them executed in the most horrible way possible.. So horrible i havent thought about yet..
This is such a waste of cute ladies..
There there there, there is always the mob hit...
I wonder if "forcing her" means RAPE or means saying her "if you don't fuck these guys I won't make you famous"....
I think it's "if you don’t fuck these guys I won’t make you famous”…. the reason that's why... then at the end those guys who use her uploading the pics or vids to the net... that my guess..
almost a suicide per week :S jeez, what's wrong with koreans..
Hivemind. go figure

Japan has 30,000+ suicides a year...
I doubt something will happen in korea. They are one of the most conservative nations that I know. They will probably just sweep it under the carpet and ignoring it.
true
So sad.
Release the body so we can fuck it!
That is just sick......
Nothing's gonna change in South Korea... There are so many things deeply wrong (I don't even refer to the entertainment industry in particular, as it's f*cked up everywhere) in that country there's just no hope.
I don't say this because I hate Koreans. Why anyone would hate them as individuals is beyond me. I just honestly and genuinely feel for them.
same goes with the Rest of Asia
Japan, you must defeat Korea tonight and crush this terrible culture.
Your intensity is for shit. Win. Win! WIN!!!
biggest weeaboo japanfag ever
I second fpaudon, you're damn sad weaboo.
Cant stop idiots making comments like these.
Because baseball determines a nation's cultural superiority.
It's alright, I got the last laugh. Japan won! Therefore, I win this thread.

"While there will be much talk of reform, many suspect real long-term change will not occur…"
How many dead young ladies will it take for people to give a crap to modern day slavery?
maybe into the high double digits
Perhaps a mass suicide of them, if they're spaced something like six months or more apart, people will forget, especially in Korea since they level grind in everything they do, which in turn makes every second feel like ten minutes, very easy to forget what you even ate for breakfast in that culture, true story.
I know that her photos are probably shopped (like every idol picture out there >.>), but I have to say... she was beautiful u.u
Why did you have to be born there? ToT
tough choices. Should I sympathy with the ladies being exploited or should I say those girls that sold their body to gain fame in the industry getting what they deserve? I mean instead of refuse those demand and report it to police, they do as they are told then commited suicide when they can no longer handle it.
Your argument stands as firm as "girls who get drunk can expect to be raped".
Instead of accusing the victim in the story, think about the possible extortion, blackmail that the industry's authorities perpetuated.
If you honestly think that these girls are so vain to willingly gain fame through sex, then I think you're missing a very big part of the picture.
I am in no way defense the entertainment industry but I just wonder is every female victims in these scandals is as inoncent as they appeared thought. And I see no connection between my original statement with the "girls who get drunk can expect to be raped."
now think to myself how many children or people blame manga and other stuff for their crime, the underage girls intentionally become prositute and then call the police...
MMM:
What part of sexSLAVE do you not understand?
@Anon
I agree with MMM
She made the choice to prostitute herself. I would refrain from using the term sex slave as she was well compensated for her activities unlike true slavery and had options to get out.
She could've gotten out of it at the cost of her career and owing the management company lots of money for building her career. All she needed to do was go to the authorities, press, etc. Take photos, collect evidence, etc. and squeal like a little piggy. The korean media would've eaten it up like cake.
Mainly its a question of morals/principals. When she was confronted with choice of sleeping with someone the first time around she couldve said No. Of course this would have resulted in her not becoming famous, etc. She sold her morals/principals and went with the flow of things. With not being able to bear this conflict she decided to take her life. You won't see me shed a tear over this.
is is stated in one of the other articles that the management paid to get her into the business and if she just quit she would have pay something like 3-5 times the ammount they payed to be allowed out of the contract which she couldnt afford the other option was to earn back the original ammount then she could leave, selling her as a sex slave was how they were getting their money. so yeah id say she didnt really have much choice in the matter
in which she should not sign that contract to begin with.
And I though it is illegal to make someone signs contract that force them to sell their bodies to pay back the debt?

It IS ILLEGAL TO PUT SLAVERY INTO A CONTRACT.
Which is why this really WAS a case of her NOT knowing what she was getting into, and being FORCED, I REITERATE---FORCED INTO A SEX SLAVERY SITUATION.
So far you, MMM and some Anon have stated "Well she shouldn't have SIGNED the contract if she know she'd be a PROSTITUTE--sex slave..ect.'
Do you , MMM OR ANYONE ON THIS RETARDED SITE HAVE A COPY OF THE FUCKING CONTRACT?
I WILL BET ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT NO STATEMENT OF SEX-SLAVERY EXIST ON SAID-CONTRACT.
BECAUSE THERE IS NO SLAVERY CONTRACT THAT IS LEGALLY BINDING IN SOUTH KOREA OR ANYWHERE IN THE WESTERN WORLD. BECAUSE SEX SLAVERY IS I-L-L-E-G-A-L.
And to the anon saying the was "compensated"---more like she was fed and kept healthy like a valued slave.

To counter that argument I'll quote DIRECTLY from the article you and I have supposedly read:
"Along with notes which detailed the sexual encounters she was forced into, being beaten if she failed to perform,"
"that the late Jang Ja-yeon was forced to pour drinks, sing and perform sexually for select entertainment VIPs and politicians."
Forced and beaten---that goes a bit BEYOND just threatening not to hire someone for an acting job.
This is my first reply ever on this forum. I have seen plenty of business structures where the result of the deal was not what is listed. In Vietnam and China many girls are told they are getting a job in a sowing factory or other fake stories only to be shipped to Malaysia, America, or Europe as sex slaves with huge legal debts. The debts are usually partially true, where the contracts are worded in a way that says the victim signs up for a work opportunity of some fake institution and the initial capital is being paid by the exploiters. The victim then gets put into sex trades that are legally under another name such as massage therapist. Legally the girls are not sex slaves, but in reality they are. And legally they owe money, that somehow gets bigger and bigger over time. And they are not being paid properly even as a "therapist" or any other job, so they can't buy themselves out.
In this case the actress is labeled legally as an actress but forced into sex slavery. In addition the actress is strip of her ability to financially take herself out. She is also put into a shameful situation where if he tells no one will believe her and she will just get hurt more.
This lady committed suicide. If she choose this life, even if it's a mistake, committing suicide is still too rash of a decision. Maybe this is the only way her story will be believed, or so she thought.

Ok ill concede to the fact that it was forced prostitution/slavery. However, her not knowing can only be made as an assumption. She might have known when she signed her "ambiguous" contract what she was getting into (hoping it wouldn't be too bad) and maybe she really didn't. Only she is the one who has that answer unless she wrote it in her suicide note that she was that naive.
In a free society, to some extent people have a right to be naive.
And to some capitalistic extent, other people have a right to PROFIT from their naivety.
But that right to profit ends with slavery, violence,or similar violations of a person's safety and liberty.
what a funny...
make rules that public do sex with non married will be punish... but at the same time VIPs got their privilege...
look at Ok So-ri...got jail because of sex other then their husband under 1953 anti-adultery laws...
now at the same time got sex slave to make a service for those VIPs... what a shame... because of that some one was die...
then... what is 1953 anti-adultery laws for...
or VIPs in here got their immunity card...
As well as general government corruption
the more powerful you are the more things you can do. from way back in the history, for now and forever amen.
even far in the future I don't think there'll be change in humanity.
Politicians/VIPs are always immune no matter which I country you live in.
such turn of events
That's the Korean for you, no respect to human life or their own. This case will close soon as nothing every happened.
Koreans are EVIL! (no offense)
Make up your mind.
