Two boys, aged 17 and 18, face up to a 25 year sentence after being arrested for setting fire to a cat, which was severely burned and had to be euthanised.
The boys took a cat and broke into an empty apartment in Brooklyn, New York. There they doused the cat with barbeque fuel, and set it alight.
The cat was discovered the next day, alive, but veterinarians felt there was nothing that could be done for it, so it was destroyed.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals pursued an investigation into the case, and was apparently connected to the arrest of the duo.
The pair were charged with arson and animal cruelty, as well as other charges, with a potential maximum of 25 years, which would be more than many serious crimes involving human victims. It is not clear what sentence the prosecution will seek.

A neighbour of mine, poisoned my cats when I was a child. Ironically, he died of sickness, sometime later, but those kids' hands should be burned to the point that they will never forget what the pain that they inflicted to the cat.

She died of cancer, as she faced years of having her "beloved" children fight over her inheritance while she agonised. The ten years of her final suffering were still not enough, but it was damn satisfying to hear of her suffering and well-deserved end.

I've always been against that kind of shit, because i look at it like this, if i put them in my shoes, i'd want to stay alive and experience the world for as long as possible, regardless of the pain, life is once, death is eternal. Though i guess it is different for animals, but if it was still alive after being burned... surely they could've helped it...

It always bugs me when news reports it as "destroyed". It always seems weird. We're told to treat animals as living beings that deserve respect, ie no abuse plx, but yet when reading an objective story they treat them like objects.
Okay okay, don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those PETA punks. I has no problem with people owning animals as pets or eating them, regardless of if they are cats or dog. But abusing the animal just to get your jollies is sick. And these kids will eventually be psycho killers if not dealt with now.

Reminds me of when I was a kid. I think the way that sentence was phrased sounded like the cat being 'destroyed' was a bad deed, but it just means the cat was in a really bad shape and in pain and nothing could be done therefore putting it to sleep was a better option.
Yes it was alive but it was probably more kind and peaceful to "put it to sleep". Sure The vet could have spent weeks trying to save the cat, but been set on fire probably caused some major damage. Sometimes it is kinder to end the suffering of an animal then to try and save its life. The remainder of its life would probably have been painful.
And yes 25 years is a little too far. A large fine, 2 years and probation may be more realistic

I think they should have to serve the 25 years and each day have a different part of their body set on fire, just to remind them why they are there.
This reminds me of the two 11~13 year old kids that killed a 5~7 year old child on the UK, some years ago. They were rightfully sentenced as adults.

This sort of arson and animal cruelty can be warning signs of sociopathy, and the desired sentencing here is to tie them up before they're strangling hookers and burning down buildings. Although it is funny that you feel subjugated by hippies of all things.

Animals deserve more protection then humans because they CAN'T defend themselves. A human can easily fight another human, it is not so easy for a cat to fight a human off of it.

I thought neutering was a rather safe operation nowadays :S (well at least in my country) didnt know it'll cost your kitty's life. But cats give birth to lots of kittens each time, and looking at the strays with 3 legs, cropped tails, skins and bones etc, i still think they should be neutered.
