Toei, for reasons which well might include Gonzo’s impressive success with Strike Witches, has announced at the recent Tokyo International Anime Fair that they will also work on a new project that involves mecha-musume, tentatively entitled “Robot Girls”. While Gonzo’s strike witches was based upon World War II planes, Toei is banking on moefying their extensive line of mecha.
This would include such legendary mecha as Superhuman Combat Team Baratack, Magnerobo Ga-Keen, and Gaiking.
This of course raises the question of whether this can match the success of Strike Witches?
The combination of pantsu, a diverse cast of yuri girls, and a contrived martial storyline and setting filled with careful WWII references seems to have caught the imagination of viewers, or at least caught them by something else.
It remains to be seen whether a franchise lacking all of these elements can expect the same success.

Looks too retro and... yeah I dunno, doesn't strike my interest at all really despite the caek.
Just by it's character design and it's 80's like graphics, I'm not sure of this to be hit like Strike Witches.
Super Mahou......Err I mean Super Mecha Shoujo, this suit's them better.
All they shown so far is a SINGLE frikkin image...and all you people are immediately judging an entire series on a SINGLE IMAGE and NOTHING ELSE!?!
Yes because their is panstu clearly visible on any and all Strike witches images, no pantsu means this is not SW level stuff.
:P
I still like strike witches better.
those sankon users and the website owner doesn't deserve to talk about super robots
"toei copies strike witches robot girls like gundam" my ass!
these stupid assfuck moe bitches where based from another shows from the seventies you retarded moe morons!!

Man, they just look stupid. They are hardly adorable or sexy. Oooh lets draw girls who look children while they dress in things that make em look sexy.
If Nopan, then F**K YES!
If Pantsu, then probably
If noneoftheabove...I'll wait for the Doujin...
Huh, who would have thought Sky Demon Dragon Gaiking was moe.
So wait, if they moefy a mecha where does the pilot go? he he
Guess it gives cockpit a whole new meaning...
Looks more Chibified than Lolified to me.. Not going to watch this if it's lacking of meganeko loli.
I've been looking for more loli material and it seems my patience has paid off...
Patience for loli material usually always pays off ^^
For this anime to success the armor need a redesign.
Well, because the armors are referring to old school series, of course they look a bit weird compared to newer designs. They are a bit unusual for today's standards, but they are not bad, in my opinion.
I'm SO looking forward to this, because I know I'll piss off the butthurt oldschool folk that are like "what are they doing to my precious mecha anime."
This
go go women power rangers lol
kinda wishing TakaraTomy's Kiss Players gets animated next
haters gonna hate but a true lolicon would never fail in watching loli-stuff...
btw I don't see anything wrong with it faces, structure or anything...
just give it a chance fellow lolicons...
Loli Super Robot Musume...I'm watching it =3
as a fan of old Yusha shows especially Gai-King and Baratack(no Mekanda?),i do have to check it out but it doesn't mean i have to buy its merchandise.
Before gundam girls...no Super Robo Loli girls attack... XD
fail
They should go for more loli representations. Have loli-Beethoven, loli-Bach, loli-Vivaldi and loli-Bortniansky in an anime. I would watch that.
That poster is a misprint. It should have said 1989.
Doesn't look very promising.
Exactly my thoughts. Weird character design for todays standards. I don't like them at all, they seem to loli too me and with legs like toothpicks.
Looks fuckin retarded..
+1
What's more sad for me is the fact that I've seen all the shows these "reimagination" (let's call this ugh thing for me like this) are based on, and they all sucked (save Gaiking I think)...
Mechanical loli eh?! Tsk tsk..
Will there be a nopan?
Better be if Gonzo wants it too be at all successful like Strike Witches.
Could be cute.
There loli so ill watch it regardless
second.
Word Icy-nee-san could not have said it better myself.
I demand MS girls included :p
If you aren't buying the DVDs, then you are irrelevant to Toei.
My irrelevants is over NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAND!
I can already see a disadvantage:SKIRTS.
They should only wear pantsu-like things!
Heh, even if I wanted to watch this, the term "rip-off" won't escape my mind so easily, ruining my enjoyment of lolis......
wwaitaminute, is that even possible?
Actually Sky Girls was the first to based on Flying loli's
Exactly my thoughts. Alot of people seem oblivious to that series and act like Strike Witches created some sort of new genre/craze.
End of the day, throw in some action, a decent cast of characters, lolify them, and add some nudity = lots of sales.
I doubt Toei will go down that path though as they aren't as desperate as Gonzo.
'Flying lolis' have been around far longer than Strike Witches or Sky Girls. Mecha Musume originated with the Gundam Girls, and the phrase 'mecha musume' originated with Humikane Shimada (who provided the character designs for both SG and SW, and the story SW). While we use Mecha Musume as a generic term for any personified machine, in Japan it's used to specifically refer to Shimada's works.
tl;dr neither franchise was the first.
Ya rly, Anon is 100% correct.
Robot anime fandom has been producing characters essentially identical to these for decades. The boom in Shimada's works is probasbly just one contributing factor to the decision to make official girl versions of these super robots. Buso Shinki is of course another successfully merchandised implementation of the concept.
Also, "MS Girls" creator Mika Akitaka and Keroro Gunso creator (and general fanservice master) Yoshizaki Mine have been dividing the work between them of a new Gundam-based mecha-girl every month in Gundam Ace for several years now. Several of Mine's contributions to Gundam Ace's "Gundam Fix Galution" / "Zeono-Musume" series have been produced as resin kits, and he sells doujinshi-style collections of related illustrations that didn't make it into Ace.
Random anime is random :\
I'm ain't going to watch it just for lolis... yeah yeah, I'm a failure as lolicon, I know... >_>
Then I think I'm a failure as well.
I don't really like the characters...
looks like FAIL
fugly, they need to go back to drawing board.
Agreed...
Their faces don't look cute at all in my standards...
Also they all are like Medabots fully-flesh-covered version...
second.
Thrid on this
fourth...
