The eleventh game in the Atelier series of alchemy/crafting/cooking RPGs, ロロナのアトリエ / Rorona no Atelier, set to be a PS3 “exclusive”, has attracted note for the gorgeous 2D and 3D art on display, but also for the rather amusing differences between the 2D and 3D characters: somewhere along the way they have been reduced in age by ten years or so…

The actual game is the first foray of the series onto the PS3, and is set to utilise the same alchemical gameplay elements fans of the series have come to know so well.
It is due for release on the 25th of June; doubtless we will see more later.

Hmmm. The 2D looks better, but I could see why the designers would go with simpler/smaller designs for game play.

Interesting take on the Super Deformed style seen in most RPGs. I like it.
And I'm quite fond of the 2D art indeed.

Oh Atelier... the most underrated series I know. Especially when it comes to h-fanart. o_O
Personally, I really don't want NISA to bring over Project A12 until they bring over the Salburg, Gramnad and the DS titles. Non-Japanese-speaking fans are missing quite a lot.

Cool.Graphic engines seems to be similar to dark cloud2 and eternal sonata ,really looking forward to this ^_^
Be fine. 2D for conversations and crap, 3D for actual gameplay. Like they always done. Or at least like they've done in Ar Tonelico and Mana Khemia.
Art is definitely nice and the older looking characters indeed look good. While the 3D portion isn't bad per se, would have been nice if they could have translated the artist's work into 3D a bit more faithfully. Oh well.

It's true that the loli 3D models are easier to render, since they have less detail.
But I prefer the 2D designs, anyway both styles are fine with me. I just hope there is a great seiyuu cast, so we can listen to some great: "Barrel".

Both look very well done though... the 2D has the good qualities of 2D, being very detailed and everything. The 3D is just nicely done with the cel-shading and stuff. And lolification.

We have the 3 Atelier Iris as precedent, and both Mana Khemias (3, counting the PSP game), so there is a good chance that this game gets localized.
However we still haven't got any news about Atelier Annie being localized, and that's the latest game in the series, for DS. But to be fair, it just came out in Japan this month (last week I think).
So I'm sure Atlus, NISA or Xseed won't disappoint us with a localization of this one.
And yet they've yet to bring Lise or Projects A1-5 here, including the sidestory to A3 and that GBA game featuring someone nobody cares about*cough*. But, yeah, they're all now on the PS2 now(with the exception of Lise and Annie, which were not Projects) since A1 + 2 were remade, so why aren't we getting it? (ﾉ ;ω;)ﾉ

Loving the original character designs. 3D is also executed very well so can't complain there.
looks actually pretty good but i'd have to agree that there is something of a disconnect between the 3d models and the 2d art. should have been a bit more consistent, go loli full force or older version for better results.

We have beautiful 2D drawings and adorable 3D in-game characters...what's not to like?
only problem remains whether or not should NISA be able to localize this perfectly I mean look at all the problems they have caused for gamers bugged AT2, broken rhapsody, typos very prominent in every title they have localized since disgaea 1, missing voices in MK PSP (japanese had complete voices)
