A poster issued some years ago by Japanese police, featuring the charming loli captain Ruri Hoshino (of anime Martian Successor Nadesico), urges drivers and passengers to ensure they fasten their seatbelts when launching their space battleships.
Her admonition reads “Launch! My seatbelt’s fastened!”
Almost as fine an example of moe marketing as one could wish for…

Pity that only in Japan you will ever encounter such a moe marketing method...
Not so: http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/02/19/naruto-supports-islamist-party/
Hehe, I stand corrected though I wouldn't consider Naruto as moe.
Iseconded
thirded
Still it's copyright infringement>.<

Yeah Naruto is NOT moe <_<;
Moe marketing, the wave the of future?
Only in Japan at least...
with more coming moe poster in the future...
can starting new hobby...
lets hunting teh moe postaaarrr!!!
Isn't driving around in Japan expensive and inconvenient? I'd rather take their trains since they're clean and punctual. Also, do Otakus actually have the money to save up for cars? :p
(P.S. yes, I know about ita-shas)
It's not affording the car thats the problem, its being able to find one with a moe level over 9000 :P
ruri promoting seatbelt...
taiga promoting about cleaning teh house...
then whose next to be appear in teh postaaar...
Reimu promoting Deodorants..?
o lol, that'l be the day....
Sakura Kinomoto promoting alternative fuel sources such as solar and wind power.
Nanoha Takamachi teaching the proper way to put out a campfire.
The cast of Higurashi no Naku Kori ni supporting Turkey's acceptance into the European Union.
That is both *right* and *wrong* on sooo many different levels...
There's always the kids from Higurashi promoting safe playtime amongst children.
deffine 'Safe'
No running with scissors.
the second one, let me get this stright 'it's how to put out a campfire' not 'how to start a forestfire'
Well now that's weird. Just yesterday night I decided to watch the Nadesico movie for the first time after it's been sitting on my shelf for nearly a month. Very peculiar timing of this article. Almost as if you knew that I had just seen the movie.
Prepare For Battle ^_^ hahaha...
moe marketing at work =3
i'll fasten my seatbelt since cap'n hoshino said so lolz
Ruri = Love
Rori Ruri.. Very nice. I will remember to fasten my seatbelts next time, Ruri.
actually Standard Chartered trying to use this strategy as well, but dunno if it's successful or not, saw this one on MRT Stations in singapore
http://www.kplayground.com/leecher/standard_chartered_ad.jpg
since it's just part of the campaign where the first half is play the second half is work, like maintaining the balance of lalala...
captain Ruri Hoshino <--- for the most part ruri isnt the captain of the nadesico, she is in the movie the prince of darkness but most fans consider it to be a piece of crap, and ruri was made captain purely on her moe appeal.
But if you had seen the poster, you could have noticed that it's THE Captain Ruri from the movie and not the younger one from the series.
Ahh Nadesico...brings back memories. Though I think mostly otaku's would really pay attention to this and not for the message either ^^.
I always got the strangest looks from Japanese (and Americans) when I put on my seatbelt in the back of taxis in Japan. "Why would you wear it if you don't need to?" because my life is worth more than the two seconds it takes to put on the seatbelt?
For some reason, several Japanese taxis I've been in had seatbelts that JUST WOULD NOT FASTEN. I once spent 80% of a trip from central Fukuoka city to neighboring Kasuga (don't ask me why I took a taxi, it's too long ago) trying to get the damned seatbelt mechanism to click shut, before I finally gave up and decided to hang on for dear life instead.
Wouldn't a closer translation be "Launch! After the seatbelt's fastened"?
At least I've always thought the -てから ending tended to carry temporal connotations.
kara ending a sentence is more like the "cause"
like, from school text,
i don't buy this book. because my friend is lending it to me.
"because" at the beginning of 2nd sentence is expressed via -kara ending, in japanese.
i guess my english sucks, right now.
anyway, the translation would be something like
launch, since i have fastened the belt.
therefore, artefact stands correct
I have to say that's an oversimplification, though probably true in at least 80% of cases. [$VERB te-form] kara usually tends to mean "first $VERB happens, then the rest of this sentence".
yeah, that's surely an oversimplification - though it actually works in here; there are tons of other situations in which the same thing means something else, but.. oh well
Another reason why we need to wear seatbelts:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycnJbfysho0
that looked really uncomfortable. is that driver from New York or an action moive?
Looks like a form of Candid Camera from Japan.
