A man who robbed a convenience store with a knife is being praised for his integrity after he gave back ¥5,000, having asked for ¥10,000 and received instead ¥15,000.
The robber (20) entered the store and menaced the man at the counter with a knife, demanding ¥5,000. The luckless store employee complied, handing over a ¥5,000 note.
Deciding that this was not enough, the robber then demanded an additional ¥5,000. This time, the employee handed over a ¥10,000 note, leaving the robber with ¥15,000.
This being more than he demanded, the robber politely returned ¥5,000, and then made good his escape.
As he had been filmed by security cameras the whole time and had only one hour before asked directions of a nearby police officer, he was soon tracked down and charged with robbery.
He admits the charge, saying simply “I wanted money.” Police are candid: “For only ¥10,000, what an idiot.”
He has been called an “honest thief”, but police are none too kind in response: “It’s theft so there’s no way it’s honest. He was a queer one alright. And he was a right fool for getting caught like this.”

So honest. So rare bad guy so honest. :D
Are you kidding me? There's no such thing as a "bad guy". The silly media portrayal of these thieves are made only for entertainment.
Some thieves in real life have no other choice but to steal, so they still have their moral integrity. The man felt sorry for the shopkeeper and returned the money because he didnt want to be too greedy. Plus, he wasn't a real thief anyway, just an ordinary guy who desperately needed money.
I thieve, and I don't need to. :l
I would've taken more and move far far away...
Nice idea. But I truthfully doubt that the convenience store would have enough money to "move far far away".
Far far away is a world of non-living. You don't need much money to get there :}
Ah, of course.
But I for one doesn't think that it would bring me joy to live there, and I don't think my money will either.
Anyways, seems to me that the robber would have some psyche.
I don't think I would be giving money back if I was robbing someone based on the pure basis that I would very likely be highly stressed as I would commit the crime in question.
I don't get it : isn't far far away already supposed to be Japan ?!
"He was a queer one alright." Are japanese importing British Bobbies?
Funny, really funny. Believe that he can't think straight that time. Which means that was his first time commit robbery.
what an honest person. We need more honest holdup's.
I wouldn't mind giving him those ¥10,000 for his "honesty".
good morals, bad application.
Electrical comes from electron, moral comes from moron
I love it hahahaha
no comment...
its just too stupid to comment on...
case like this always amuse me with its hilarity lol
Another example of how you can't be good AND bad at the same time.
more like he's bad at being good..
I lol'd really hard half way through reading this article. You know what? I wish all thieves were like this (especially in their intellect level.) The world would be a slightly better place.
Theft is theft..and the fact that his reason was he needed money then returned extra during the robbery seemed odd.
It would have been better if he didn't tried to rob the store owner anyways.
he just wanted money to buy the latest shounen jump, the poor fella :(
Awww... Come on. He has much more dignity than the other criminals out there. He has class.
Second. I hope this isn't sarcasm ^^;
Nope.
*sigh*...why cant the criminals around here be more like him...
Or simply...
Why can't people try to not commit crimes to make this world a much better place to live in.
Because the way our society is built up, there will always be people who lack money, or clothes, or food, or some other essentiality. This society we live in is, instrictually, not a very good society. It works, I'll give you that, but it doesn't work well, and that's why "the oldest professions"; prostitution, thievery, security duty and politics will always exist.
Instead of cameras, they need to install turrets in all the stores.
What a prefect example for the underground society. I wish the Yakuza were like that too.
wut?
Wait...he asked ¥5.000 and then another ¥5.000 and returnd ¥5.000 because he got ¥10.000 the second time and when he left he asked a police officer for directions !!??
No, he asked for directions before going to the store.
Something along the lines of "Officer, could you tell me what's a good convenience store to rob at this hour?"
Looks like the poor bloke was in need for some money. He took what he needed. But theft is still theft. Sad when an honest man is driven to crime based on circumstances but the law is unforgiven.
Yup,he's a real airhead...
"...is being praised for his integrity..."
By whom?
The public now hearing about his case?
2ch and the person interviewing the policeman here.
Polite robber lol.Pointing a knife at you.Now that is polite XD
He's committing an act of doublethink :P :P
We need more thieves like him.
Now there's one with a screw loose...
This remembers me of a politician (Brazilian) that once said when questioned "What do we do against a guy who raped and killed a girl?..." he said "Okay, want to make sex? Rape, but don't kill" (Honest raper, rape but didn't kill)
This same politician is famous for saying "I may steal public money too (corruption in Brazil is really fucked up), but at least I do things for the city"
at least he's honest about his corruption.. might even put it in his ledger.. Corruption budget: Priceless..
Well, I guess he does not pay taxes over it, if so, it's really a gold mine.
He asked a police officer for directions to the convenience store that he was going to rob?
Once again, I'm only here for the Asakura.
And why does the officer's comment sound so limey in my head?
ww
Can someone explain this to me? I've seen streams of w's running across most nicovideos and I don't have a clue what they're supposed to represent...
For that matter, what is ktkr?
Strings of w's are the JPN way of saying "LOL!"
just go watch lucky star and notice when Konata's mouth turned into the shape of "w".
lol
www is from warau, which means "to laugh", hence the "LOL".
ktkr is short for kitakore which roughly means "I'm here".
I'm so glad my comment started a discussion, but could I get back to the limey business?
I mean, was the translation done by a redneck Brit, or do all Japanese policemen talk like Danny Choo?
