Wikipedia Third Most Trusted Site in Japan

Recent research conducted by Yahoo suggests Wikipedia is the third most trusted source of information for the Japanese, being beaten only by newspapers and radio, and managing to beat TV.
The survey can be taken as demonstrating that the authoritative nature of the traditional mass media (in Japan at least) is being gradually eroded.
Search engines and portal sites also placed strongly. After that came company homepages, specialist forums, Q&A sites, magazines and video sharing sites, which managed to do much better than personal blogs, social networking services and “3D virtual worlds”, which they closely resemble.
By far the least trusted medium was that of “general bulletin boards”, probably thanks to 2ch (although it is not clear whether parts of 2ch would qualify as “specialist”).
The survey itself was conducted nationally using the answers of a thousand participants, aged 15-59.

Whilst the various international Wikipedias tend to concentrate their revision activity on topics of incredible controversy and volatility, in the Japanese edition the most recently published revision statistics indicated the most edited articles to overwhelmingly be concerned with anime, games, Gundam and similar…
Probably the absence of highly partisan editorial cliques concerned with these subjects ensures the Japanese edition lacks the battlefield atmosphere of so many English Wikipedia articles.

Anything is more reliable than the mass media in Japan...
Need Moar Wikipe-tan
How come I never knew about Wiki-tan? Been using wikipedia for YEARS and yet it never appeared on the main page.... =_=
But yeah, Wikipedia is good for general informations but for everything else theres always Google....
ONLY THIRD?!
wikipedia is fine too....at least i usually go there to search for the general information about the things. After that if i need in-depth info i usually go to some forum (trusting 1 i mean)
The critics I hear the most often against Wikipedia are: "Anyone can edit it" or the "I can go online right now and edit an article" one.
Personally, I would rank the site high in my web-info list...
Well, unfortunately, my version of faux Wikipedia does not have a MikeeUSA article, but it does attack the proliteriat often!
http://www.uncyclopedia.org [www.uncyclopedia.org]
It has an amusing Japanese version too. Take a look if you can.
Ah, you mean http://www.ansaikuropedia.org [www.ansaikuropedia.org] .
They also offer it in simple English and my favorite
... my favorite language apparently breaks the code somehow.
Looks like the Japanese need a Stephen Colbert lesson.
I'd trust the Japanese Wikipedia more than I would the English one
TOW? Trustworthy? GTFO.
You can't go wrong with trusting a cute anime loli~
*thumbs up*
I'd rather trust her than some old dude anyday...
Pshh Wiki is my #1 trusted source. :3
being sankakucomplex #0 right?
More like -1.
Wikipe-tan > Wikipede
You might wanna mean Wikipedo?
im sure the gundam articles are pretty accurate
Wikipedia Believe iT! ^_^V
Hmmm...I use wikipedia for a lot of stuff. I know its not all that trustworthy but it gets the job done. Of course I don't use it for important things.
that girl with a jigsaw puzzle pin
is she a wiki maskot naw..?
...Yes....That is Wiki-tan, wikipedia's mascot...
Is her official name Wiki-tan or Wikipe-tan?
Wikipe-tan
I thought so.
Lolicons need their own -tantai too.
They can do battle with, and eventualy seduce Beako.
thats wiki-tan
she was been the anime mascot for wiki for about 3 or 4 years already
They need to erode the fuggin' porn censorship bullshit they got goin' on over there already.
You are a fuckin idiot
No. You are, judging by your comments.
Dude, it's not censored at all. Look at the articles on that stuff and you'll see drawings and pictures.
They already have thousands of editors desperately taking pictures of their penises for the fetish and genitalia articles, what makes you think they need more?
In any case, isn't there something like pornwiki or another database site for porn?
That would be Wikipedia.
there is, go search it up on google and you shall find.
O LOL
i can relate to this as when i need to know anything about anything the first place i go to is to ask wiki-tan. after that it's google....it's probably not due to the information being 100% accurate but rather that almost any info you may want is on it.
Wiki-tan! I loves her!
Seriously though, I trust most of the information on wikipedia to be right, and if not, you can usually tell by how blatantly dumb it sounds.
I'd even go so far to say the radio station where I once worked would typically use Wiki for it's "This Day in History" morning news show segment, among other features.
I do both.
If I'm looking for info on say, "Internet Protocol" I just type in "internet protocol" into my firefox address bar, and suddenly, Wikipedia!
Since Wikipedia is usually the number one result on google :v
better to get a mixed result when serching for something this way you can compair the 2 agaisned each other and determin if its true.
Wiki-Tan and google-tan do that for me..
One hour before the premiere of an anime series in Japan, Wikipedia will have a whole article with a ton of information on it now that is what we call a divine source of knowledge.
properly coz on the Anime's offical website, all the information are already given...and ppl just compile it and stick it on wikipedia

japanese wiki's compendium on ginga eiyuu densetsu is awesome.
Monkey ears wehehehe
Oh sure, make her look ugly as hell, gg wikipedia fgts.
She needs a total overhaul, I'm talking glasses, more prominent twintails, some zettai ryouki angles, and heterochromia. they at least pushed the loli and maid outfit portions, so all hope is not lost.
It's been done, but "The Powers That Be" behind Wikipedia rejected it on the basis that mascots should not be sexualized.
