Second Life Opens Red Light District

Linden Labs, makers of Second Life, recently announced the introduction of an adults only area in its virtual realm, or more plausibly, it has introduced a non-adults only zone into the polygonal sex simulator which is Second Life.
With that announcement comes a tacit admission that much of the activities that characterize Second Life are of a debauched and lascivious nature.
It seems some 74 percent of the Second Life user base currently flags their content as not appropriate for all ages, although this includes areas of mixed content; whatever the case, nobody could sensibly deny mature content makes up the majority, and is probably the major driving force behind the over-vaunted economy of the place.
Second Life avatars can be made fully nude or outfitted with a variety of sexually suggestive outfits.
While outward displays of nudity are frowned upon, no prohibitions exist indoors, out of the general public’s view (unless they happen to wander in); much of the virtual world’s economy in fact revolves around trading models, devices, scripts and similar for these private encounters, however loathe Linden Labs might be to admit it.
Private sex clubs have been long a feature in Second Life with participants engaging in all manner of sexual fetishes and bizarre proclivities. Roleplaying clubs featuring themes of sado-masochism, “consensual rape”, kidnapping and sexual slavery are numerous.
Participants engage in the practice commonly known as ‘cybering’ (also popular on such cesspits of immorality as IRC and MMORPGs), manipulating their avatars in a variety of suggestive positions while sending sexually explicit messages to one another, typing one-handedly all the while.
Voice chat is also used, but often discouraged due to the desire of many participants to take on other roles, particularly that of the opposite sex. “Ignorance is bliss” appears to be the operative principle here.
The new announcement will separate adult content from general content, presumably moving adult content into a separate area. Adult clubs that flag their content appropriate will be allowed to stay under the new scheme.
Given the distribution, it may be more accurate to think of the general content as being given its own special zone in the midst of all the furry castles and other such marvels.

It will be interesting to see whether segregating adults only users will have the desired effect of making Second Life more palatable to those interested in pursuing an online existence without seeing “mature content”, if this adequately describes swarms of flying penises and the like.
Numerous historical examples have shown that actual red light districts can enjoy much growth once officially sanctioned, although Second Life may prove unique in that the population of the red light district is likely to far exceed that of the other areas.

I guess this is their attempt to steal the utherverse/RLC crowd. I think it might work; RLC (in my opinion) has been charging a premium rate for essentially a beta-quality product for years now. Here's the way I understand it. Second Life already has a distinction between "PG" and "mature" content, and it sounds like now they want to introduce a third category - "adult" content. Kind of like the safe/moderate/restricted filters on Flickr, I'm guessing.
The idea of needing to flag "adult" content is pretty ridiculous, since technically the main grid only allows adults - minors have their own teen grid. However, I'm hearing rumors that they might be trying to combine the teen and main grids, and if that's true, then this move makes a little more sense.
Still, I can't help thinking that it's a slippery slope. First they banned ageplay, and now they wanna cordon off the more blatant sexual element on its own little island, which I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually decided to disown (oops, server failure!). The open source grid is looking better and better all the time.

there isn't there are two seperate servers an adults only and a non-adults you cant be of a certain age and in the children only area i believe and you cant be under a certain age and be in the adults area.

Why not copypasta?
Some people have complained about copy pasta being presented. Why is this? If you have not previously read the copy pasta what harm is there in it being presented. Often on this site it can be tied to the news item at hand (especially since the reason we all look at various forms of japanes line porn is because we don't have the real item (atleast a pretty enough, nice enough, or obedient enough real item)).

That which was posted was written offline and seen by very few previously. It's not as if it was a widespread thing. Other than the file it is saved to it is original.
