Sanrio and X Japan have announced that they would be collaborating for the X Japan’s World Tour Live concerts, bringing their renowned Hello Kitty brand into a new world of eccentric hairstyles.
The new look Hello Kitty, or now known as “Visual-kei Hello Kitty” was created by owner Sanrio specifically for this tour.
This is the first time that a Sanrio created character has had a collaboration with a real life band, and the choice of X Japan was regarded as a modernization of the character, which has long been synonymous with “cute”.
Whether or not this is just a ploy to tap a new demographic is not clear, although it hardly seems unlikely. For now further details are being kept under wraps…
The concert itself, delayed some time ago, will continue in Seoul, and will include New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Germany, Finland, Thailand, Beijing, and Taiwan before returning to Japan
