Hiroomi Iketani, one of the three producers for Gundam 00, responded to a recent interview question on the survival of the main characters after the last episode with the enigmatic suggestion that something significant and unexpected will occur in the “very last seconds” of the episode, scheduled for March 22.
The relevant segment of the interview is shown below, along with a translation:
The red text is the interviewer’s question, Iketani’s (池谷) response is to the left.
So, at the end, everyone will be alive, right?!
Well…what can I say…I can’t tell you that, but please, keep watching up until the very end of the ending, until the actual last second!
The suggestion by Iketani that the show’s plot will continue to be developed up until the very end of the episode is not a surprise for Gundam 00, but the emphasis on watching until the very last moments has elicited some discussion over whether there might be some sort of post-credit surprise announcement, ala the Macross F’s theatrical movie announcement that aired immediately after the last episode’s credits.
The surprise may also be related to the upcoming Gundam 30th Anniversary project revealed in the April issue of Gundam Ace, which will be a return to the venerable UC timeline of the original series and set sometime during 0081 (one year after War in the Pocket).
It seems we will have to wait until the last episode airs on March 22 to discover what Iketani is hinting at.

last second?
Ribbons removes his face and reveals Amuro Ray *screen then fades to black* and he screams "SHAAAA!"
dum dum dum....
good, cuz it's been damn predictable so fucking far.
anything is fine just don't kill setsuna in the end!!!!
Maybe they'll air an apology for the writing in the last seconds.
I'll tell you what happens...
1. ???
2. Setsuna goes into mindhax, kills Ribbons, makes Marina his dungeon bitch and takes over the world.
3. Tieria dies in Lyle's arms. Lyle then shoots himself in the head after confessing he couldn't get over Anew.
4. Everyone else not mentioned above dies in some lame way. Sumeragi dies of a liver condition, Ian and family somehow get fragged while on an asteroid base, Feldt dies on Ptolemaios with a photo of her and Neil in her arms.
And i love bullshitting. Must be the caffeine overdose i had this morning.
Hmm I wouldn't be suprised if they nearly killed all the meister. Go Mizushima go! though I bet at the end are some sort kind of cliffhanger for the rumour movie or third season?
PS: People started to whining in the recent episode because of what? oh that's right they killed [Insert character name]now this series is sucks. Bleh people neeed to grow ball and watch Zeta or Victory sometime
Agreed it annoyed me the most when people just can't let go his/her attachment to certain character. and started to drag it on and on. I mean I was like wtf when some asking the ridicilous thing. Like he should have able... just like K.. and she wouldn't have died! o_O *_*;
That seems the most obvious non-lulz answer to the mystery.
And people start to whine because the shows almost over and they've just realized they haven't gotten their quota in yet. I mean lol it is a Sunrise series after all, and you know what happens to Sunrise series on the blogosphere. :P
And while it does sort of feel a bit like the plot has a bit dragged for the last little while it's not anything that didn't happen in the first season as well. The fix would be quick though as far as shutting up the whiners by the end of this last arc. All Sunrise would have to do is add some yuri pairing, have Ali show up and be the focus of the last four episodes (he wouldn't even have to do anything important, just be his usual crazy self), and have Patrick do an Irish Jig for Katie and these people will switch from calling it "bad writing" to "Epic Win" faster then you can say "Ore Wa Gundam". And as much as I probably sound like I'm suggesting that strictly for the lulz, I'm 99% certain it would actually work.
Setsuna will transform into a super innovator with green shining hair, yelling GOD FIIINGER!! destroying every enemy and save all his friends.
the end
Onsen fan-service..
Wishful thinking I guess.
Hints for OVA ^^
Setsuna vs. Lockon. I will bet my money on Setsuna.
the last episode is on the 29th and not on the 22nd. Is the director saying to watch the last few seconds of the very last episode?
Can't read anymore...
I was able to tolerate other long comments from other articles here, but Gundam?
I haven't even seen one Gundam series totally...
I just tried reading this article cause there might be something to not miss.
So forgive me for it... My eyes really hurt from those long comments...
Well soon enough, I'll watch all Gundam series whether they sucked for others or not...
Everybody dies just like Ideon or Yamato?Who knows?
I completely agree with Jarmel, albeit I am a little late posting this. Then again everyone has their own views and my intention is to just share some of my own speculations about this series.
Just like how Jarmel said, I also felt that the difference between the first season and the second season left a sour taste in my mouth. *Dont tell me to wash my mouth please~*. The first season has a sense of realism that was quite relative to our current reality. Hence when I reluctantly started watching this series, it immediately hooked me because of the fact there are so many similarities between the world in the first season and our own world, with the exception of the mechs of course. For example, the conflicts between the IRA and British Government, the Conflict of the Tamil Tigers and err...something Army i forgot sorry, are true cases in our world also. Therefore it felt like I was watching a possibility of a future in our own world in the near couple decades or so. I am sure that there are many people who noticed this. It was...how to say...had a pleasant feeling to seeing the unraveling of the world's problem one at a time.
The plot itself was rather interesting too, to add a touch of tragedy and drama that every show should have. and the mix of it was rather gentle and not one side too heavy - meaning not too bull---t and not too real either. I was in a trance till the end of the first season.
However, like Jarmel also mentioned, the second season was completely in a different era of reality despite only progressing 4-5 years in the series. To compare, it like jumping off a balcony and then jumping off mount everest. *I know its a stupid example but im too blurred right now to think of anything better*. Suddenly we get a new concept where the 00 Gundam is close to GOD mode. Please... maybe because i have not seen the other gundams other than seed and destiny might cause me to be a bit more skeptical about this development, but i thought it completely came too sudden about, and completely contradicted the flow from the first season. Quantsizing( I believe there was a point that 00 became particles and teleported here and there? I think the first time they docked with 0 Raiser) is a concept that is highly theoretical and erm is really...too bull---t in my opinion. Even worse is that it was made available in 4 years span of research by Ian. That really went over the line. It essentially lost the sense of realism that connected with our own world. Hence, it also became less relative to the audience watching it( like me, i particularly thought this is gonna turn into something where anything can happen, and the laws of cause and effect dont exist anymore).
Much of the world in the 2nd season is acceptably possible in our own world. There is no problem with that. I only had problems with the development of the technology in the 2nd season that was all. Also the designs of the mechs were starting to look too...unreal. In terms of plot, i found it was messier to follow and there were too much foreshadowing. Alot of the time i can pretty much figure out the next episodes content by rerunning 2-3 episodes back. Although there were always some minor surprises.
There are many things i could go on about, but then i would have written a book. My general speculation is that this series had a huge potential, it was very interesting. Too bad it went off in somewhat of a tangent. From solving the worlds problems one at a time to fighting to the last man stand in the 2nd season.
But then again I am only 1 person, enjoying the show in my own way. Jarmel has his own ways and Kaioshin Sama has his own views. We each can agree or disagree, but it just means there are always things left to be desired at the end of the day. Just enjoy the last few episodes and close the book ^_^. Have a nice night.
I think exactly the same.
Shame it lost that spark it had during S1.
gundam OO it a zombie team
Wow I love how you can't even mention some simple news about a Sunrise series anymore without every troll on the internet popping up to bitch about shit that has nothing to do with the topic. It gets more retarded with each passing season. 0_o
My interest is piqued now, I can't wait to see what they come up with and hope it's good.
Seriously though, when did this place turn into a troll hangout?
Those sort of comments do tend to draw more attention to themselves than others, but they're not the entirety of all the comments.
Gundam 00 S2 is shit. even the staff admit that the series went sour and did not become what they originally intended it to be. but this sounds like the rumored Gundam 00 movie. doubt it will be any good.
If by staff you mean one butthurt animator. That's not even a reliable source to begin with just a fucking rumor on 2chan
Will we see Ideon v2?
Or will Tiera finally confess to Lyle? We shall see...
God, PLEASE follow kill-em-all Tomino's legacy and kill everyone and their mothers. That would be frickin epic
I stopped wathcing it after Lockon's brother became a pilot. I mean, what the fuck was that? They killed a character, and then they, like, hey, here's his twin brother (might as well be a clone), now he takes his place. How shitty was that? Worst plot twist in the Gundam universe. Overall narration is a total failure, especially lame attempts at politics.
Yeah, you know it's almost like they expect us to think we already knew about Lyle early into the first season... OH WAIT, he did show up early in the first season.
Well, they still have the same personalities. OH WAIT, they don't.
Well, this is still very unorthodox... OH WAIT, Space Battleship Yamato did this decades ago and with less nuance.
Not really a plot twist, more like you're retarded for not seeing it coming.
Yeah, really, who could possibly have not seen that one coming a mile away that had any sort of clue about what they were watching? If some people would spend half as much time using their brains (hell even 5% of their gray matter being put to use would do) while watching anime instead of looking for new memes, trolling opportunities and jerking off then they wouldn't look as stupid when they go to whine about and troll it.
Anyway Golion or Voltron did the exact same thing too actually with the Blue Lion pilot. Yeah though, this current generation of anime viewers can't tell their ass from their head anymore and spend so much time trolling and wasting other people's time in having to explain basic shit to them that they missed that's it's just become painful to watch. Like far moreso then the worst anime episodes I can think of this season.
But yeah "bad writing" and all that shit, whatever.........that's become like the ultimate copout phrase for an innattentive viewer. I remember when bad writing actually meant bad writing instead of, "I don't like the story".
Zoinks. That's one heck of a twist.
Not as cheesy as Divine Nova getting killed off and replaced by several 100 versions of himself though. Funny that I was just debating with a guy about "stupid plot twists" last night and then the episode that airs gives me one to grouse about.
But you have to admit, Lockon Stratos getting killed off and replaced by his own twin brother was a pretty cheesy development.
Doesn't matter if you see it coming or not, it's still a groaner.
Who cares? 00 is a shit show now and Sunrise has already shown that they can't write for shit with this show. I'm amazingly disappointed as the first season was actually pretty decent.
Who cares, all you do is whine about the show everywhere you go, but yeah, why do you care so much if it's "shit"?
That's because the first season was much better. I've been very much disappointed by the absolute lack of writing in S2. As I said, I really don't care anymore especially after the recent bunch of episodes. I'm just going to finish it up since I've come this far then just shove it to the back of my memory somewhere.
While I really don't care at all what you think about "stupid plot twists" since everyone has their own tolerance level for what qualifies as realism in anime, you might as well just go ahead and tell me about these apparently show breaking plot holes. This oughta be good. Hold on I'm going to go get a drink while you write this all up.
I really hope you end up with some actual plot holes (as in flat out irreconcilable contradictions in the flow of the story) though and not just "plot holes" (i.e parts of the story you didn't care or characters acting in a way you wouldn't have acted if you were in their situation) otherwise I won't be very impressed. Plot holes I'm interested in discussing, "plot holes" not so much. Just the fact please.
Ok first off let's correctly define a plot hole. Plotholes include such things as unlikely behaviour or actions of characters, illogical or impossible events, or statements/events that contradict earlier events in the storyline. Oh and there's a difference between someone acting as I would have done and someone acting with common sense. Ok lets start off shall we?
-A-Laws dropping the elevator on themselves (You already tried to explain this away on THAT and we already shot your theory down)[Illogical]
-Hong surviving the ship explosion[Impossible]
-Revival taking the wrong Gundam[Illogical]
-CB not restraining a prisoner or using him as a hostage[Illogical]
-Billy magically pulling TransAm from some of Eifman’s notes[Illogical]
-Only Graham has TransAm for A-Laws when there is no logical reason that nobody else can't use it[Illogical]
-At the end of episode 18 the single gunshot fired and the submachine gun fired in ep 19 are not compatible. [Impossible]
-The Federation labeling the Tower drop incident as a terrorist event despite
thousands of their own troops seeing what they did.[Illogical and pretty much impossible]
-Ali not shooting to kill when Setsuna was out of his Gundam and instead going for this elaborate poisoning method(which is really the just incompetent writing)[Illogical]
-A mobile armor with energy bending capabilities(To be fair alot of what Gundam 00 does is impossible but not to this extent)[Impossible]
Oh and we're not even discussing the pure stupidity that makes up a large portion of the show.
Err what? I now see why Crusader doesn't bother talking with you as you just reject things that don't fit your theories.
1. We proved you WRONG on the tower incident, there was no leeway on that. We have already argued how absolutely illogical it was. You are also way wrong on the Hong incident, go check the episode you see massive explosions all along the ship. How did Hong escape as she was locked out of the controls and I doubt that Nena after firing would just take a break so they can escape.
2.The parts after the credits are part of the show, just because you don't agree with them doesn't make it non-canon.
3.Your making up your own theories to explain events when it is obviously the writer's job to do such. If the writers don't explain something, it's called a PLOTHOLE. You're just making crap up when you have no clue.
4.First off it's entirely impossible for an energy beam to just bend and unless you show me some scientific article saying it's possible for energy to just randomly bend without any sort of assistance then we'll talk. It's called the first law of motion, if something is moving then it will keep moving until something stops it. And guess what's need to just bend, that's right, to stop.
Almost all of the things I listed were plotholes and you just making up shit(some of which makes no logical sense) to try and say it's not a plothole just proves my point. I'm done arguing with you as you like to sprout your own theories as fact when they aren't. If they explain something later then fine it's not a plothole but currently it is until later rectified. Word of advice, when arguing with someone about plotholes don't give your own ideas or opinions, cite some facts in the show itself. Here I thought you would show some intelligence with your replies but apparently not. Good day sir.
I'd swap out everything you say impossible for with improbable or unlikely, but in some cases what you describe has a perfectly obvious explanation. Anyway:
--A-Laws dropping the elevator on themselves (You already tried to explain this away on THAT and we already shot your theory down)[Illogical]:
Actually you just bitched harder and louder along with Crusader and every other biased person on THAT then I could be cared to argue with anymore, but yeah that wasn't the Federation, that was Goodman and Katagiri and it's been shown in Goodman's case to be well within his characters personality to have that much of a disregard for the safety and security of others and an appetite for wanton destruction. He's almost like Ali in that regard except he's a coward.
[Explanation: Goodman is a sadist and Katagiri really wanted to use this opportunity to quash the rebellion, even it if it meant having to bear the sins of committing such an attrocity. Both people knew what they were doing, just one didn't care and one felt it was worth the loss]
-Hong surviving the ship explosion[Impossible]
You mean the bridge catching on fire? I don't recall seeing the ship explode. Anyway if you ask me that was one of the weakest episode in the series. Oh and I think it's important to note that what happens in the post episode cliff hanger portion isn't necessarily what actually happened in the episode or usually even in the correct sequence of the story. I've learned to take the post episode bits for the obvious cliffhanger/exaggeration gimmicks to get people worked up for the next episode that they are.
[Explanation: Don't take everything you see in the post credit sequence as is since most of it is just a teaser for the real sequences that happen in the next episode]
-Revival taking the wrong Gundam[Illogical]
I always assumed the plan was for him to take the 0-Raiser and Anew to take the 00 Gundam, but obviously it didn't work out that way. Hardly illogical, just the plan getting foiled.
[Explanation: You seem to have misunderstood the plan]
-CB not restraining a prisoner or using him as a hostage[Illogical]
They had him well under control in that room, it's just that Anew turned out to be in league with him and she took a hostage so that he could escape. Even if he were tied up or restrained they would have had to let him go anyway or risk Anew shooting up the ship and making an even worse problem for themselves.
[Explanation: Again you didn't seem to understand the situation they were in]
-Billy magically pulling TransAm from some of Eifman’s notes[Illogical]
Yeah to be honest I don't really know how that works either. I keep thinking there has to be a critical design flaw somewhere that makes it inferior to the true GN-Drive Trans-Am or that's it's a total jerry rig like the GN Flag, but so far we haven't seen anything.
[Explanation: Eh....I never got this one myself so all I can say is it better get a better explanation somewhere or I'll be forced to agree with you]
-Only Graham has TransAm for A-Laws when there is no logical reason that nobody else can’t use it[Illogical]
Graham's got his one man army thing going on and Billy is doing this for him and revenge against Kujo, not for A-Laws. Also whoever said that what he did for Masurao was mass produceable even if he would want to share it with the rest of A-Laws.
[Explanation: They're not sharing the technology either deliberately or because they simple can't]
-At the end of episode 18 the single gunshot fired and the submachine gun fired in ep 19 are not compatible. [Impossible]
I don't really remember this all that well, but again I think you take the post episode cliffhanger bits way to close to heart. Most of them are pure BS fanservice and exagerrations like Ali breaking the fourth wall.
[Explanation: Typical post credits BS]
-The Federation labeling the Tower drop incident as a terrorist event despite
thousands of their own troops seeing what they did.[Illogical and pretty much impossible]
Interesting that after this A-Laws suddenly decided to bring the Federation army under it's exclusive control with permission from 00Bama. Seems an awful lot like a gag order to me. Also Katie and part of her fleet seem to have flat out quit the A-LAWS and gone underground (she seems poised to appear again in the episode tonight). I get the sense that some people are doing something regarding this incident, just that there's only so much they CAN do with the Federation citizens complaceny and an unconfirmed amount of manpower.
Also nobody actually saw what happened between the 00-Raiser and Memento Mori that is still alive to tell the tale besides Arthur Goodman, and you could be guaranteed that he'd play along with any story about the Gundams being the cause of the incident instead of him to save his bacon.
[Explanation: People such as Katie's fleet appear to have defected to Kataron as a result of this incident and the Federation is now A-Laws bitch. For the people that didn't they are in no position to talk about the truth, don't want to talk about the truth, or just flat out don't know the truth]
-Ali not shooting to kill when Setsuna was out of his Gundam and instead going for this elaborate poisoning method(which is really the just incompetent writing)[Illogical]
I can only guess Ribbons didn't want him dead right away for what is happening to him now in becoming an Innovator, which also seems like part of somebodies plan. It doesn't seem like incompetent writing to me at all.
And honestly you people need to stop with the "bad writing" thing when you don't know if there could be a reason for something like this happening down the line as it's just getting sad and stupid now. Not everything that happens in an anime series has to have an immediate or obvious reason and resolution for it like you seem to think is needed in order for something to be "good writing". How do you know that the way the story is written doesn't require it to be explained in the future after some other key event in order to have the maximum impact.
So yeah from this point on everytime I see that "bad writing" thing pop up for an unfinished series (especially for one that has a habit of leaving plot threads open until the become relevant again) I'm just going to skip it since it's retarded to flat out denounce the writing of an unfinished series with open plotlines. Dislike the progress of the story so far, fine, deny the writing in a general sense, only if you're opinionated beyond reason as to what constitutes good writing....in which case nobody really cares outside of circles that share the same opinion. In short save it for THAT.
[Explanation: There seems to be a reason why Ali didn't shoot to kill and you can bet it has something to do with Ribbons liking of and apparent plans for Setsuna]
-A mobile armor with energy bending capabilities(To be fair alot of what Gundam 00 does is impossible but not to this extent)[Impossible]
Errrr....you know that that is entirely possible and that this isn't the first Gundam series to have had a bending beam. You can set a beam to output practically any shape you want depending on the containment field. I think you are thinking of it in terms of a magic bullet, when really beams in the Gundam universe have always been malleable. Hell Crossbone Gundam has Beam Flags and Victory Gundam has beam shields that can be formed into swords by changing the output. How do you think an I-Field works in U.C? Who's to say the same can't be said for GN Fields.
[Explanation: Learn your Gundam physics son.]
- Oh and we’re not even discussing the pure stupidity that makes up a large portion of the show.
Yawn....how cliche. As I said before,I honestly don't care. I think you complain far to much, get worked up about television far to easy and are just trying to look like a tough guy. I'm purely interested in debatable facts, not your opinion which you've already stated countless times.
Did you miss all the obvious plot holes and stupid plot twists or do I have to spell them all out for you?
Lack of writing? The hell?!
@Jarmel: That's circular logic right there. And man I've really never seen somebody have it in for and whine so damn much over a TV show. Get a grip man. :/
Seriously this is what you look like right now:
"Goooooooooooooooooood, why can't this show be more like U.C Gundam?! I know I'm right and everyone else is wrong because I'm on the internet, and everyone on the internet is right! Waaaaaaaaaaaah! Stop trying to come up with reasons why these are not plotholes, I already said they were! STOP TRYING TO ENJOY THE SHOW!"
Yeah....like I said, get a grip.
Oh and yeah, in the Gundam universe it IS possible to make a beam bend. Last time I checked this was an anime universe with it's own set of rules, not our own universe. If you can't even seem to figure that out then you really are just a hopeless whiner.
@Dmonhiro: More like he seems to think people will drop everything and join his angry whiner brigade just because he pops up somewhere and says a show is full of plotholes.
Like I tried to explain to him, most of these so called "plotholes" have blatantly obvious explanations and those that don't are either easily explanable or insignificant in the long run. Buddy sounds like your typical whiner from /m/ who only ever goes on the internet when they have something to complain about and that's all you'll probably ever hear from him. Not worth arguing with anymore in my opinion. Just gotta point and laugh.
jarmel is a moron end of story
Actually, activating my Trans-Am sounds like it would be pretty fun.
Japanese cartoons - serious business.
God you are such a troll. Just because YOU think something is wrong doesn't mean it IS wrong.
Also, I can't believe someone is arguing about the laws of physics, in a Gundam anime.
This is just holdover arguing from other portions of the blogosphere.
C'mon people, spread some goodwill!
Don't make Quen's 00 go Trans-Am on us. I don't think any of us wants to see anybody else here floating naked in space.
If you watch Gundam for anything else but the Mecha design, yes you are right.
But if you are like me and are watching Gundam 00 for only the mecha and nothing else, it is an awesome series.
The designs in Gundam 00 are really poor. especially everything we have seen in the second season.
1st season's Exia looked wayyyyyy much better than 00 >.>
Episode 21 sucked. >.<
Even though im a fairly big fan of 00, i have to agree the designs arnt as cool as the first season...
Only problem is the Gundam designs aren't particularly great. The first season they tried to be realistic then second season they pretty much said fuck it. I mean an energy bending weapon? Hopefully 0081 atleast has more realistic designs then this crap which has pretty much dissolved into Seed level.
@Jarmel: The popularity of 8th MS team? Hardly. I dont think Ive seen an apparence of an 8th MS team character/mobile suit in a video game/model/etc in a long, long time.
While "realism" is good, so is "OMG" factor. That feeling of making the impossible, possible (yes I know Im making an obvious reference here) is as much of a tradition as the realism.
You're confusing design and physics thar
Not exactly. Part of the appeal of some Gundams is the fact that they are realistic(as realistic as a Gundam could be), look at the popularity of MS 8th Team. If I was purely talking about aesthetics then you would be right but design can include function as well.
Wouldn't Gasaraki or Metal Skin Panic be more up your alley then?
On the functional design side, I favor Masamune Shirow. Gundam 00 does have functional designs, but they are mostly with the non-Gundam models. Storywise, Gundam 00 is adequate, but the bar has been raised by other mecha anime like Code Geass and Rideback.
