Pathé has recently released the trailer for the live action adaptation of Mamoru Oshii and Hiroyuki Kitakubo’s Blood: The Last Vampire anime:
Player 1
Directed by Chris Nahon, the movie was written by Production IG’s Kenji Kamiyama and Hong Kong’s Ronny Yu, and stars South Korean Gianna Jun (or Jeon Ji-hyun if you prefer) as the serafuku wearing sword wielding vampire busting girl, Otonashi Saya.
Meanwhile, the main antagonist, Onigen, will be played by the Japanese Koyuki.
The movie will premier in Japan (May 29, under the title Last Blood), and will then show in the United Kingdom (June 12) and France (June 17).
Interestingly enough, the film might not be aired in the United States, in 2009 at least: Universal Pictures acquired the rights for this movie last August, but they have yet to decide a date for it.
The trailer looks impressive enough, and considering that it is written by Production IG (the original studio for the anime), the adaptation seems set to stay true to its Japanese roots, unlike certain other recent adaptations.
The only point of issue seems to be how the Engrish level of the actors and actresses will turn out to be.
On the other hand, choosing Jeon Ji-Hyun as an attractive lead does help, although it will not help quell those critical of the movie industry for unerringly failing to cast Japanese actors in “Japanese” roles.

Fine here.

Working just fine.
Video not found
I'd recommend to try refreshing the page, as it seems to be working fine for most.
Bad luck. I can't watch it. (Yes, tried refreshing.)
Damn, not working for me too ;_; But at least I can see the player ^_^
Not able to watch any sansaku video or visit the chanel...
oh stop whining guys, and just go to Youtube already... does everyone need to be led by the hand like kids?
Not for me
I think this might be a DNS propagation issue...
video not found. if i try to click on it again, it seems to load something, but never finishes to do it. anyway, by typing the thread title on youtube, i've found the trailer anyway. sorry for the non working link, but at least you gave the advice to look for it.

If this doesn't load it must be slow DNS caching for some of you - apologies.
it's not working for me.
that reminds me, i'm having a few troubles with links lately. it's since.. yesterday ? i couldn't connect at all with sankaku, and i've been really sad. Once i could log again, i've found a few troubles as i said before.. is my connection failing ? oh please don't.
Yeah, neither hosted videos nor the channel are loading properly for me.
Video working *just* fine here...!
I saw the other trailer (on youtube) and this one (seeing it) in English was kinda (off)...I'm used to seeing it in its native language...
But, still, this had more to see...
Looking forward to seeing this!
Video not found, but that’s because it couldn’t resolve content.sankakucomplex.com’s IP address.
I found the ip address and added to my hosts file:
202.212.90.231 content.sankakucomplex.com
Afterwards, the video would load.
I guess you could also watch it on Youtube. Quality is about the same: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk2L8Mgxd5Q&fmt=18 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk2L8Mgxd5Q&fmt=18]
It's the DNS changes made yesterday - just be patient and your ISP will update soon...
worked after refresh
Added to my hosts file and now even the chan works.
Nice!
They kept Saya's proper nationality not like dragonball where everybody magically turned american.
Who ever said Dragonball was based in Japan or that the character's nationality was Japanese?
Um, did I ever said they were Japanese?
It is based on the Saiyuki so they should be at least Eastern Asian.
Roshi-Asian
Yamcha-Asian
ChiChi-Asian
Goku=not Asian (he's a goddamn alien in the series, it doesn't matter)
Bulma=not Asian (which also doesn't matter)
Dragonball's world is a weird cultural hotchpotch, so nationality can't be really attributed to everybody without fail...
Not to mention Piccolo and he's a vampire not a Namek, and be killed by Saya.
It would be blasphemy (if) they changed her nationality!
If they (meaning Hollywood) are going to make a movie *based* on a Animé then do it - "right" - and not make it a farce, as Dragonball...is going to be.
I know I am judging the film (prior) to - (( not )) seeing it, but from what the trailer tells me...
It's a disaster....
GO SAYA!
fine by me......
hmmm...engrish. At least its almost certain to be better than the dragon ball z movie. The fights look nice.
Jun seems to be still hot.
so is the movie gonna be in Engrish? that's a shame.
also, video not found 4 me either.
Well, the actress is Korean and the actor is Japanese and the director is American (I think?)
English is the only language that they all share (probably?)
Jun Ji-hyun is awesome.
I loved A Man Who Was Superman.
zomg! Jeon ji hyun my fav. Korean actress.. definitely watching this
I'm not really sure why otaku make such a fuss about casting non-Japanese actors in Japanese roles. Hollywood rarely goes out and finds real actors with real French or German or Italian or whatever ancestry for roles when they make historical adaptations of foreign literature and instead opt for Americans with vague cultural backgrouns; why do anime adaptations deserve a special treatment?
S'not like Japanese anime ever casts real Americans or Brits for those roles in anime =/ At least Hollywood's getting the CONTINENT right.
Go watch Detroit Metal City. Both the Live Action and the OVA uses real US person for the role of The Emperor, Jack Ill Dark. Heck, they fukken used GENE SIMMONS!
You need to consider the difference in budgets between a hollywoord movie and a Japanese anime before you can make that comment.
Plus, there are many cases in anime that they try their best (in their budget) to find a native [insert nationality here] to voice the role.
The Nationalists have more issue with this sort of thing than the otaku. You know, the people who seem to believe that Japan consists entirely of pure Yamato-bloods who are unique and special and better than the rest of the world because they descend from proud samurai with superior culture. Foreign dogs couldn't possibly grasp the amazingness of Japan's four seasons! TEAM JAPAN RAH RAH
Red Cliff II had Takeshi Kaneshiro cast for the character of Zhuge Liang. I'm not too bothered as long as they speak the language proper in the movie which in this case is Japanese...
Yay for Blood! Eww for DBZ movie.
Other than the typical cringe inducing voice-over, pretty good.
Just wondering...why can't they just find japanese female actress instead...she's beautiful and all and I have nothing againsnt her, I see most big budget movies end up in the hands of others to play the lead role necglecting the native country, for crying out loud they have hundreds of Idols in that country waiting for a job or gig to put food on the their table.
International purposes. She's famous because of the "My Sassy Girl" movie, thus would have a better chance of atracting viewers than keeping all of the cast pure Japanese and such. And besides, it's debateable that Saya is originally European (as hinted in the Anime series). Most likely she's Asian because this was the movie adaptation.
so... Crouching Tiger Hidden Vampire.
Also she looks like a he-she or lady-boy with that hair lip.
That pretty much sums up my feelings.

Even though it looks like it'll be better than DBZ, I'd still call this a rental. As for Jeon Ji Hyun, the movies better have tits or gtfo.
Coincidence or not, I updated the post about Blood the Last Vampire just earlier today... in case you lots continue having problem with the videos, here:
http://xspblog.com/2009/03/07/blood-the-last-vampire-live-action/
Anyways, the movie is looking good, but I think it'll still be far worse than the original animation.
From the trailer alone, looks like an average sfx movie...
Oh, for the record, I've also been having trouble watching Sankaku content since yesterday...
Is it possible that it has something to do with IP range, the country we're from, or something like that?
DNS issue - should resolve in hours.
Working now. Thanks for the headsup Artefact. Thought maybe I got banned or something, as I couldn't visit the chan or forum >.<
